Not sure. He was able to change a jersey I think I posted it on here but his alpha will be released in a couple of days and we'll see what little or much can be done with that. Sound and textures for sure

      Re: NBA 2k15 Modding Thread

gregkwaste's explorer tool has been released. He figured out how to properly preview textures, sounds and json files. No import yet but he's working on that. He's also making some progress on being able to preview 3d models. So far you can export but not import back in.

A cool feature is that textures are exported and saved as legacy dds files rather than the new OpenGL dds file format. I know I had a problem opening up any dds files I exported with NESA24's tool because of this.

I'm going to snoop around and see what I can tinker with.

I've also updated the Original Post with some of the latest findings from around the community.

I wish next gen consoles could implement that sweet FX stuff, the game looks SO nice with it. Is it not possible?

Let's say I went out and bought a regular, mid-priced laptop (around 500 dollars or so). Would the specs of just an un-modded, brand new laptop be sufficient to run this game?

Absolutely, provided you can accept running not running on high settings.

I bought a $530 laptop a couple weeks ago with a mediocre gpu (nvidia 840m) and I run the game perfectly fine on medium settings. I turn the special effects off (a big fps sink for me) and crowd down a little and I can play with player detail on high, getting a constant 60 fps. Obviously not ideal visually but I'm more than happy with the results.

Edit: Probably goes without saying, but a desktop for the same price would obviously be a much better investment. I already needed a laptop for school though so that's why I got what I did.

If Vlad really has built an editor that can easily edit their next gen PC version...

A: It would be worth a lot to 2K to use themselves...

B: It would be easy for them to offer him a nice amount of cash to keep it away from the modders. If you can edit this game and keep it fresh / up to date courts / player faces / new rookies etc...it would essentially make purchasing it yearly not necessary.

They may well buy him out. It would be the smart business move.

It would be very dissapointing. I will be buying this game on PC the moment the first player mods are made. Hopefully it is not blocked.

your guess is as good as mine... but there is this...

"The candidate should have experience designing and writing both standalone as well as plug-in tools to aid and improve the development process, working closely with other engineers and especially artists and designers to help realize creative visions."

Vlad would get vouched by Jaosming immediately.

If 2k hires this guy then there are no more tool makers

Could someone give me an ELI5 on why it would be beneficial to 2k? The way I see it is they do not currently release any sort of official modding tool (shame, I can only dream of awesome mods all over the workshop), and having this out there means there can be a modding community without them having to actually do anything.

My understanding (which is obviously wrong) is having this tool out there is essentially a free benefit to 2k. Why is this not the case?

2K's masterplan! Snatching up the tool makers. It's been a good run I guess 2K is afraid that the tools will muck around with their precious VC.

So...if that were to happen is it up to the Chinese to make a tool for 2k16? I wish 2K would just release a mod tool for us plebs to play with. I would like to try my hand at some modding

I used to mod the tanks for the first Combat Mission. I miss those days lol

Or seeing as though they lose money on the pc version maybe they can use it to their advantage to make some?

I honestly don't know. I don't think they hate modders or anything seeing as they went and hired a couple so far.

If they want Vlad does that mean more pc on the future

                              So many questions

Wow this is starting to get into conspiracy theory territory. At least gregkwaste is pretty close to getting a fully working tool out too.
