    I had finished up my first franchise season/offseason, and wanted to hit the gym to scrimmage with my new squad. In MyGM, playing a "scrimmage" puts you in some Gatorade practice gym...I couldn't believe how smooth everything felt, it was almost like a completely new game!

    So I tested, and put my settings to what I ran 2k15 on...buttery smooth, even smoother than 2k16 games run for me on bare minimum settings (yes, I even keep crowd completely off, the game looks terrible like this and makes me feel dirty for playing in this state).

    Now, I'm sure playing in a practice gym is obviously going to mean a little better performance than in an arena with all the special effects and additional models taking power to display. But seriously, it was night and day, and I've been playing with special effects and crowds off in real games anyways so it's not like removing those had some profound effect. Playing in this Gatorade gym allowed me to crank up the resolution, shaders, player detail, reflections, etc.

    I've been looking for optimism that the game will eventually run decently for me, and this has given me some. I just hope my hope isn't misplaced
    Scrimmage works perfectly for everyone on max settings if they have just a decent rig.

      Well I can't/couldn't max the game but I was able to run at my 2k15 settings. Do you mean that it works perfectly for everyone unlike the rest of the game, or that just about anybody should be able to max it out (due to much, much better performance regardless of optimization/bugs)?

      If the latter, then why is that? Is it lack of crowd and special effects? Because those are not a factor for me, I'm already having to run 2k16 at bare minimum settings for regular games.

        Can someone with an ATI/AMD gpu tell me which drivers are being used? I have the latest ones.

          Yes I meant that the scrimmage works without stuttering for all. It's not the lack of crowd and special effects. If that was the case we could just turn them off and get rid of the stutters.
          I'm on a R9 280x, tried all possible combinations for settings, all display drivers from 14.7 to 15.9.1, everything on low and off and still there's stuttering. Performance also gets worse after 2 games. This means there are big optimization issues like the latest Batman title. I'm sure Leftos will try his best but as I already posted I'm not so optimistic.
          2k got my money as every year for the pc release and the great game (gameplay wise) they provide, I won't go for a refund (I think there's no way also because I've exceeded the time limit) but this is the last time I support them.

            I understand your lack of optimism (I was sort of feeling that way too) but isn't this a reason for optimism? If the game already runs perfectly fine in one area, wouldn't there be hope that they could fix the other areas to run similarly?

              GTX 750ti, AMD Phenom X4 955

              This worked for me:
              1. Change monitor refresh rate to 50 Hz via Nvidia Control Panel (custom res)
              2. Change monitor color depth to 16 bit via Nvidia Control Panel (custom res)
              3. Set "shader cache" to off in Nvidia Control Panel.
              4. Edit ..\Roaming\2K Sports\NBA 2K16\VideoSettings.cfg
              settings:
              REFRESHRATE = 50.0
              BUFFERCOUNT = 3
              VSYNC = 1
              TEXTURELOD = 2
              PLAYERLOD = 1
              CROWDLOD = 3
              SHADERLOD = 1
              ABOVE_NORMAL_PRIORITY = 2
              D3D_INTERNAL_THREADING_OPTIMIZATIONS = 1
              FAST_TEXTURE_FORMAT_CONVERSION = 1
              DYNAMIC_ENVIRONMENT_MAP = 1
              JIT_SHADER_CREATE = 0

              Currently playing the game with 50 FPS. Which is enough. Controller input is responsive. No stuttering. Graphics okay with those settings.

              My GPU should be able to run this at higher settings and better shaders, but it doesn't work. 3.2 GHz quadcore CPU apparently too slow, um...

                Is there a way to reset video settings? I deserve the dunce cap award for the day! The game was looking and running just fine at 60 fps at initial(I'm guessing detected) settings. I stupidly just to see what fps I would get put everything at max. Now it's literally running at 1 fps whether in game or in the menus. I've changed some settings back(can't remember what they were all at) and it hasn't improved fps at all. Why isn't there a detect settings thing you can click like other pc games?

                i7 3770 cpu
                Win 10 64
                12gb ram
                r9 270 2gb

                My specs are above recommended not just minimum so It shouldn't run that bad at max (1 fps).

                  That sounds like super sampling is turned up. Turn it off.

                    Thanks! That was it. Put it back to 1 where it was and back to 60 fps.

                        This game is driving me crazy... i thought wow now the game is working properly... closed the game to watch some college football from the US here in europe. got back to playing the game an voila frame drops from 50+ to 30+... a drop of about 20 fps seriously i'm done with this game!!! can somebody explain that to me. patch was already installed when i had fps at 50+. fullscreen mode, player detail high, shader and text. dat. on medium, crowd on low, spec. eff. off, AA settings 2/4, vsync off.

                        what is going on...!?!?!?!?

                          Crowd is off. low texture, medium shader, everything else turned off and/or low. But you'll have to edit processor priority in the cfg file. Didn't notice much difference with various fullscreen/windowed/vsync on/off etc.

                          Most important is refresh rate/colour depth (the lower the better), processor priority = 2 and Nvidia Control Panel "Shader Cache" = Off.

I used to run nba 2k15 with everything on high,except textures ( medium ) but this one doesn't seem to work that well.I think I tried everything.I get 60fps,but they drop when they get to my basket,and if I want to get 60 fps for the whole time,the games is now playable (no crowd,etc).What should the details be with this specs : texture,crowd,etc ?
