    Re: IGN Reviews Live 360

First off, let me say this- if Live 360 is released and is missing half of the feature set that is available on the current gen versions, they deserve to be docked points. I have no problem with that. I would also add that the missing features that IGN is emphasizing are features that I have absolutely no use for, as they either have nothing to do with the game of basketball (All-Star Weekend) or serve to break the game engine (Superstar Mode). If that's all that was going on, I would accept the lower score without it necessarily dissuading me from getting the game. On the other hand, there were some other things noted as well that should cause concern. The four playable camera angles are a definite issue, particularly if the default angle has problems and occasionally gets in the way of playing, as apparently it does (that's something that I picked up on in a few of the videos). I'm fine with the slowed down gameplay in theory, but if the effect is overdone, as it seems to be here, you end up with a game with very little flow and not enough player control. It also sounded like the game had serious clipping issues, and that would tend to give it an unfinished feel. Those are all directly gameplay related, and they are further reasons to dock points.

I will download the live demo and if I like it rent the game but buying the game for me is out of the question because with all of the missing features the replay value is near zero.

I'm quite proud of IGN myself even though I normally dont care for they're reviews. But it looks to me that they've finnally stood up and rated a EA game low. Something that I have personally never seen from that website. Honestly fellas, I know you take most reviews with a grain of salt but a 5.9 from IGN pretty much means they think the game sucked. Find any 6 or lower rated game on that site that you think was fun.

I wish he talked more on the gameplay also because that is the deciding factor, we all know the game looks good. But I'm with him when he describes the replay value as being low. Its why I harp on Madden so much but at least they do have a franchise mode. There is no sense of buying a game for 60 bucks if you will get bored of it quickly. As for gameplay, there must have been something that turned him off or he would of at least came to a conclusion on it.

Anyway, like I said before, there will be alot of first time 2K6 buyers based off features and extras alone this year. Cant speak for everyone but I need depth in my games.

        Re: IGN Reviews Live 360

Well, as much as I hate to say it, Im actually kind of glad IGN did this

        Why?

Well for one, EA never listens to us. For the most part we've been stuck with what they released no matter what it was, or what steps backwards they took.

This might be the only thing that gets a fire under them to produce a worthwhile long lasting game that is void of the cheese in past games.

IGN should've done this a very long time ago to be honest, but no better time to get it right than next gen.

I waited for this version to come out to get it when I get my 360, but luckily for me my bro will have the game before i do, so i can decide then whether i should drop 60 bucks on it or not.

hmmm... care what reviewers have to say vs. amazon.com top 20 sales chart ALREADY! i think they'll feel that the overwhelming response is positive because of all the people buying it.... then again there could be backlash or something. most people just love the nba live style of basketball

Sure people do, but they still arent completely ripped apart like this. This is all apart of EA's strategy.... marketing if you will. Im sure they've had some influence from this site alone even if a little.

Wow I got to page 4 of this thread and I couldn't read anymore.

Why someone would pay $60 for a game that only has Exhibition, Season, and Street (Do they have that?) is beyond me.

I'm pissed too. I mean damn, this is Xbox360. I'm not the type of person that'll say "OMG WTF X360 SUPPOSE TO MAKE GAMES TEN TIMES BETTER THAN CURRENTGEN" but they didn't do sh*t at all. Get your head out of your a$$es. IGN mentioned what EA did to the gameplay. Slowed it down a bit. What else did you want them to say? Really... What else? That you can Freestyle?

Raw, he's just saying that the people in this thread are claiming that IGN gave it a low score because the game lacks features. What Pared is pointing out is that IGN STILL would have given it a low score, because they feel the gameplay is bad as well. He's not saying he's basing his opinion off their review, or whether or not they're right or wrong, he's just showing that IGN may have lowered the score for more reasons than just lackluster features...

This forum is getting ridiculously testy lately. People are just all out attacking others over nothing, and half the time (like in this case) it's because they didn't understand the original person's post. Just relax people, you can have an opinionated debate with another person without turning it personal... it's called acting like adults.

Sorry to get off topic, but that just get's so annoying. There are people in here trying to actually DISCUSS the game, but I have to sift through three pages of name calling to find it, because some members can't control themselves. Pretty soon the mods are going to have to start locking these threads immediately until people get the point...

Well, IGN is a major site that can definitely influence companies. IGN's scores are often quoted on the game cover itself so they are a very large and reliable source....to casual gamers of course. I've said in the past that it will only take a major publication such as IGN to make EA work hard at developing they're games in the future. This review right here is a sign of something good.

Dont qoute me on this but I'm pretty sure there will be many ppl buying Live based off the name alone but there will also be a ton of returns of this game by early next year from unimpressed kids and gamers. Even the most casual of casual gamers will be turned off by a season mode with no contractual system, the ability to pick up any free agent you like and trade for whoever you like and to top it off, has only 1 playable season. My EA loving friends are already turned off by the lack of a dynasty mode and if I tell them that there are no penalties for pickup FAs and trading, they're really gonna say no. I know some ppl prefer Live's brand of basketball but it'll be hard to find reasons to keep playing it. Just my opinion.

Sure it matters. How long has IGN given Live a nice high score without penalty for things like sliding, lack of rebounding, and rebounding issues altogether, cheese fests, catchup logic, making your team go ice cold so that the computer can hit tons of impossible 3's to get back in the game, bumping players like they're lineman, and the list goes on.

IGN let these things pass in their reviews for far too long. Im just surprised they're coming to their senses at this point

                      Re: IGN Reviews Live 360

No one is mentioning, that Jon Robison has been reveiwing Live for IGN the past 3 years. Him being sophmoric in his description of the game and his non mention of gameplay is possibly due to this statement he made about the loading screen and "unfortunately the game loads". So to think this man doesn't know how Live is played is insane. No mention of gameplay because he simply couldn't get into, you guys have seen the video's and I stand by my "General Greivous" statement in an earlier thread about the animation hiccups. EA, should have been smart enough to just put those pretty graphics on its current gen game and port it over due to lack of dev. time.

I truly believe he penalized EA for stripping down the game simply because he saw it done from PS1 to PS2. They say we Americans have a short attention span and maybe EA was counting on that aspect of American physce(sp).

That would be EA at the height of their arrogance. I refuse to believe they'd be that stupid. continuing down a road like this would only be a detriment to EA

I played Live alread in an EB, me and the manager are cool and we popped it in after the store closed (they have a demo 360 up and running). Visually its jaw dropping. Every once in a while there is a little bit of herky jerkyness but IMO not enough to make someone upset. Areans are amazing, the coaches.. OMG! they are scary..i mean they look sooo real.. visually EA pimped out the game. I do agree with IGN's score though..not even a franchise mode? I can do without the all star weekend and all that other stuff but I dont care what EA's excuse is... the game is half baked without the franchise mode. I have it in my bundle..im still gonna get it cuz its fun as heck to play against other people and im sure it will be the same way online. Its a bittersweet moment though because if the 360 NBA2k could have had lives visuals I wouldnt buy live at all... I have both though in my posession.....yeah I know.... ive been spending some loot over the past few days. In 4 days I picked up Smackdown Vs Raw 2006, Indigo Prophecy, Magna Carta, Live, NBA 2k6, Resident Evil 4 for PS2, Civilization 4 for PC, Tiger woods 06, Project Gotham Racing, and Madden 06... man its nice to get a nice peice of web freelance work fall in your lap while you have a full time job
