It may sound weird, but playing against the CPU I tend to not mind it so much. I get more into the game. Now, when I go online, this is a whole new ball game. I played a game where the guy did not miss a shot the whole first quarter because of the timed perfect release. Even with 2 defenders on him he kept sinking baskets. Meanwhile, I would miss an easy post put up and find myself behind VERY quickly after missing a basket. I absolutely get how you feel on this.

Pared, you're trippin'.

That has been the biggest problem with NBA 2k lately... the fact that a perfect release doesn't always go in. IT SHOULD always go in. Why shouldn't it? If it doesn't, then the game is being decided by the computer. Now, maybe a perfect release should be harder... I agree there, but there has to be a shot where you can make it no matter what if you release it well. Think about it. If you're Kobe and you get a 'perfect release' no matter who is in your face... if you don't get bumped or the ball doesn't get blocked... it's going in.

I love that. Sure some games you will shoot insanely high percentages, but at least you know that the person is making the shots or that you are making/missing the shots instead of being like in 2k "It's ray allen shooting so the release doesn't matter." or "You're cold... so the release doesn't matter."

I can't believe as a gamer who wants true competition online ( you are, aren't you...? I'm assuming) that you would want anything less. Just like if someone presses the steal button at the same time when you are doing a move... it should steal it every time. You should have to avoid that as a player. Further, unless someone has a program pad (which I admit is the only flaw) then its your job as the defender to get in their head and make them miss. Put some pressure on them.

When I used to play Live 06 online on PC... I'd play vs people who could make almost every 3. But as the game went on... and the score got closer... and they started having to think about it... their shots started missing.

I dunno how you can be against that, man... really. I don't even know you... lol but it's like woah. How else would you want it?

You pretty much just proved my point.

A perfect release does not mean a shot will go in every time. Watch these guys in warm ups when no one is around them and watch a perfect release practice shot miss.

Sorry but I'm looking for a realistic interpretation of the NBA and it's players, not a game where my input dictates exactly if a shot is going in or not.

When you see that perfect arc, you know it is going in. That's video game basketball and that's not what I'm looking for.

If anyone finds anything in regards to slider settings that can change this it would be appreciated.

It's the fact that they are incapable of releasing perfectly every time that makes them miss shots. Not because they always release perfectly and somehow there is a margin for error.

Anyway, that's all. I dun wanna argue. I prefer it for online play. You don't.

If you're referring to video game basketball, sure. However, a perfect release (seemingly) supersedes ratings and that's 100% wrong.

Can you honestly say you've never seen anyone in the NBA get a 100% clear look, the perfect release... and miss? Or are you just going to argue their "release obviously wasn't perfect?"

There's a big flaw in that thought process, IMO. Obviously the Live developers agree with you.

Of course it wasn't a perfect release. It can't be a flaw because in player vs player something has to be determining the make... and the computer... is not what I want. Seriously on 2k they have some formula that decides whether or not you make it.

I am all for a 'shot stick' shot that is similar to the free throw. Something advanced so that it has to be straight as well as just the right jumping height. You see what I mean?

Shooting ratings are misleading anyway. To me, if a player is in a spot where he can make it then he should. I think the main attributes that should determine shooting are shoot off of the dribble, jump height on jumper, contested shot rating, and how long a player has to be in a spot before they can make a shot. So, if you wanna sit Shaq in a spot for 5 seconds with the ball then pop a 3... I think that's cool. There's no law that says Shaq can't make threes. Would that be playing to your strengths... no. Someone could easily run out and contest it... during that time. Or strip the ball. GOD is not going to come down and hit the ball with lightning if Shaq shoots a 3.

My ideas for basketball gaming are much more advanced... and until they can implement them, I am happy with Live's. Like I said before, do you wanna be taking a shot at the buzzer and have it go in because it's Kobe or because you released it well? To me, 2k should just go to an auto release... then they could factor in the whole formula thing... but that there is no 'go in' release... is lame.

In Live. The chance of the shot going in. Shouldn't it be determined by the following things?

- The point at when you release the ball
- Defensive Pressure
- How good the actual player is with shooting (player shot ratings)

Example : Shooting 3's with SHAQ, should never go in or maybe 1/20

because even though you say get a perfect release on a jumpshot, his 3 pt shooting rating is low, therefore should really lower the chances of it going in even with a perfect release.

I do agree with Pared on this, just because it is a perfect release, doesn't mean it should go in ALL the time. It's like the actual players shot rating doesn't mean much then.

DOes this mean if you get a perfect released shot on a 3 pt shot with SHAQ, that it will go in all the time? :P

I should try this and see how it goes

This is off the topic but it has to do with shooting, how in the world do you make the computer attack the rim. Ive done extensive research on this and its getting frustrating. If you give any player an inch he will shoot a jumper, never take it to the hole. Even guys that tend to drive in real life opposed to shooting still pull up way too much. I thought that dna thing was supposed to help with attributes. I played against the cavs last nite and lebron didnt take hardly any shots and the ones he did were jumpshots. Before he can even get the ball a nrole player is taking a jumpshot. One note i havent downloaded the dna yet because i rented the game so maybe that has something to do with it. I really like this game and have been waiting to play for months but that lack of aggression thing is getting old. Someone please help me because this is more of me wanting help than complaining about the game.

I agree with Smak. In real life, if your release is perfect, the shot will go in. If you missed, that means you either didn't put enough arc on the ball, or you shot it too hard. You also could've put too much spin on the ball and you didn't release at the top of your jump. If you make a shot, your arc was good, the rotation you put on the ball was good, and you released at the top of your jump, therefore resulting in a perfect jumpshot.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I just have nothing to say when someone feels an NBA player should make an open shot when they are left open. Of course, they feel the same way... but that's not always the case.

Either way, if you like it, great; It's not realistic but you like it. I'm still looking for a realistic solution that is feasible via sliders, edits, etc. If anyone can offer something I would appreciate it. I have a love/hate relationship with this game.

To me, a perfect release should not guarantee a made bucket, plain and simple.

Pared, try lowering your sliders more. I only have the demo, but I've actually lowered the shooting sliders to more than 20 clicks...

Here is another example. Had a double team on Derek Fisher behind the 3 point line, fade away 3 and made it

You can tell from the arc of the ball that it was going to money.

I'm seeing this too...it's moderately annoying, basically everyone standing open for a shot seemingly makes it. I'm not good enough to be perfect every time, but the CPU kills me too often. I'll deal, but i hope there's a simple fix.
