Re: Ask The Developers a Question
Can you PM me a gameplay video? I promise not to share
In all seriousness, 2k's info is what I expected it to be. Touch up their shortcomings and try to implement their own version of DNA. I expect it to be a solid game overall. But I'm anticipating enjoying Live more, just like last year.
A lot of the features sound nice on paper, like the summer leagues, combine, d-leagues...but honestly it's not stuff I get too into.
Same thing with BAP modes and such....I prefer playing with real rosters and getting straight into Season mode.
Edit- it's late and I'm not sure if stephensonmc was joking with the 2k question to try and get people infractions, haha...if so, ummm, I can delete my postLast edited by pbz06; 08-06-2009, 02:02 AM.Comment

Re: Ask The Developers a Question
- Improved Commentary- Always a welcome addition. I thought Live's commentary was more in-depth than 2K's last year so this was an area they needed to improve
- NBA Today menu- Nice idea, but I still like Lives idea better. Booting straight to gameplay is awesome in Live.
- My Player/Draft Combine- Just like Be-A-Pro I don't see myself touching this mode but maybe once or twice. I've never been able to get into superstar modes. It's always Franchise/Association/Dynasty modes for me. However the improved CAP features that come with it are nice because 2K9's CAP was terrible.
- Better court spacing/smaller player models- Court spacing was definitely an issue in 2K9 and hopefully they corrected it this year. I do think both 2K10 and Live 10 will have solid court spacing this year.
- 1,000's of new animations- The games animations will still look incredible, but are we going to have more control over them this year? That wasn't really covered in the article.
- Signature Play using 82games.com- Simply put it is 2K's response to Live's Dynamic DNA. We haven't seen it yet, but I have serious doubts that it can touch Dynamic DNA. Live has had 2 years to work with implementing their DNA into the gameplay and 2K is starting from scratch here. I just trust Live with Synergy better than what 2K is bringing with 82games.com
- Improved Defense- Good, it couldn't be much worse than it got last year. I still need to hear and see a whole lot more on this.
- Spread out player ratings- It worked for Madden, it should work for 2K10 and Live 10. All sports games need to do this IMO.
- New Controls- Need to use them before I can comment.
- Turbo Meter to prevent cheesing- It sounds like it could work, but is it just a band-aid? Fix the defense/unstoppable animations and you wouldn't have to worry about players driving in for dunks while holding turbo on every play. Is forcing those players to tire faster really the best answer here?
- Summer League/D-League/Create a Draft Class from scratch and share them online- All 3 are damn awesome additions! I would love to see these in Live some day.
We haven't heard about Association Mode yet, and since that is THE mode that I mostly play I need to hear about it before getting too hyped. Overall I liked what I read, but still have major questions that only gameplay videos and a demo could answer. I've bought both games for the past 2 years, and I fully expect to do that again this year. Both games seem to be addressing their corresponding weaknesses, but in both cases I need to see and feel the changes for myself. I like to read any and all info that is given to us, but I take it all very lightly because both companies are trying to sell a game here. EA and 2K still need to prove it to me instead of simply telling me that some of my concerns have been addressed. Does that work for you Marcus?Comment

Did you guys bring back the dynasty cutscenes."I still have yet to accomplish what I've been trying to do from Day 1.”

Re: Ask The Developers a Question
I only really like that they added the "My Player" mode. They basically took yall idead "be a pro" and made their own mode, but you can actually use your own guy throughout a season. The dleague and summer league stuff is nice, but if its not real life players, then that'll suck badly.
I have a question for you guys. It seems like 2k's big announcement was the "my player" mode. Did yall upgrade "be a pro" to where we can actually control our created player throughout a season and more? And do yall have another big announcement that has yet to be revealed?
I haven't brought Live in years and I'm in love with what yall are doing with the game. Even if we know everything there is to know, I'm fine with it because its still more than what 2k has to offer, (excluding gameplay because we have yet to see live gameplay). I'm just curious if yall are holding onto anything that will make us go "WOW".Comment

Re: Ask The Developers a Question
I did like what 2k said about their double team this year, I like that we have more options as a defender. Hopefully it won't mean the offensive player doesn't less control of their player. The one game i played NCAA 09 had the best double team so far in a bball game. You could dribble, pass, and shoot on the offensive side. Defensively you could steal and force a bad pass. In live 10 will we have realistic double teams, where animations don't take the control from the user?will I be able to dribble thru or jab step thru a double team to make a pass?Yeah so in summation I don't know who you racing I'm already at the finish line with the flag waving, c'mon!Comment

Re: Ask The Developers a Question
Things that I liked from 2ks announcement
-Double team and giving you more control of how to apply the pressure
-My player mode
-Implementing D-League and Summer League but it won't be as good if they didn't include it into there association mode.
- I like the NBA Today menu idea, but I do enjoy Lives idea with the hangar place thing.
-Use of 82games but if they still have Insider doing all the ratings it will be sort of defeat the purpose. Having actual data for tendencies but using the opinion on of person to rate the players sounds bad to me.
-Able to create draft class
-Not really from todays announcement but just from draft combine screenshots, all the options for signature moves.
They said they re-did broadcasting but they say that every year. I won't believe that until I hear it.
Right now I say its a toss up between games, need to hear about association/dynasty as well as see gameplay video before can really consider which game to purchase or if I have to purchase both this year.Last edited by infam0us; 08-06-2009, 03:20 AM.Comment

Re: Ask The Developers a Question
Do the commentators talk about rivalries in Live 10 and other news that add to the authenticity of replicating an NBA game? or is it just the headlines? It's a failure on 3 levels: programming/QA/Production. That's all I can say.-iminurbaseComment

Re: Ask The Developers a Question
Does Live 10 also have D-League? and does Live 10 have proper player and court proportions? one of the few things that I liked about the preview of 2K10 and they haven't pulled out the big guns yet... hope EA hasn't either! It's a failure on 3 levels: programming/QA/Production. Re: Ask The Developers a Question
early articles and screenshots for both games seem great.i personally like the announcers in live .my first choice is live BUT only if you have a mode that you can play as or control multiple teams.2k10 usually 8 ,the show 2 teams but you can play any game on the schedule.with both teams being great that will decide it for me.i love the addition of the d league nice change of pace.Comment

Re: Ask The Developers a Question
Some intresting things there:d-league,summer league etc and the most promising:improved spacing. But nothing about actual gameplay and a.i.Things like contextual commentary, basketball first philosophy, partenship with a scouting service rise a question. Do the producers of the 2 games meet each other and exchange ideas? btw,nba today=live run?Last edited by made in eu; 08-06-2009, 07:47 AM.Comment

Re: Ask The Developers a Question
First of all. It is great having two Basketball Simulations finally competing and not dominating each other. Every week you get more info of every game and you simultaniously get more excited. I certainly feel like two people grabbing both of my arms and pull with all they got (so I hope this'll end well...)
However, the article has been good. So let's see what we got.
Commentary: I do feel that commentary is a huge part of presentation. So any improvements are welcome. What's important to me is, that they will stick to the emotions in the game, not the stories they bring up at free throws or during the actual game. They will get naturally boring after a while no matter what. But an excited commentator at the right time who is also acting different at certain games (regular season, fighting for play-off-spot-game, playoff game, last minute of the 7th game of the Finals) would stand out and be a huge addition, but I can just imagine a little of what kind of effort that would take. To get back on track, I think especially the commentary about the rivalry and stuff is great, but I wish they would follow the thread and take this through the whole game (of course not continously). I am not sure about the interaction stuff...might get lame if they haven't added enough of that stuff.
First screen: I think the NBA Today screen is nice idea. I am statisic addicted, so everything with numbers on the screen makes me fall in love. (something Live is lagging dramaticly - overview, types of stats, but that's EA in general i.e. FIFA). However the Training area or now "Hangar" is something you guys should stick to for sure. It's EA's signature move and it's really fun.
Spacing: One of the major issues 2k had last year and simultaniously a point where Live was actually better. But we'll see in Gameplay. I don't give much about words and pics when it comes to gameplay.
Draft Combine/My Player: I never really like EA's version of that. I always felt it hasn't been thought through enough. So I am very excited about this. I love to create myself and make up for my sport failure in real life.. It's seems to be very deep, and the addition of D-League is very nice. I also loved this feature in NHL 09. It make it so much more valuable to play with your own character for an NBA/NHL team after you prooved yourself.
Online 5v5: Great thing playing with your own player there and pick up points. On the other hand I do remember 2k's Top Spin 3 (weird comparison, I know) where you could create your own player and even right at the beginning of release everybody had a almost perfect player. I thought it to be very lame and unexciting. Yet NBA might be different.
Animations: The big questionmark here. Animations can be both a blessing and a curse. The main point is, if you get control back. This is something I noticed. Since PS3/XBox360, I haven't played one game where I thought I had totally control of my players. I am not sure if that is some kind of placebo, but I always thought the best PS2 games had total control compared to today. However NBA 2k9 is the absolute leader (followed by FIFA09) in lagging control and accuracy. So they need desperately to improve in that departement, otherwise you guys will rule.
Defensive improvement: see spacing.
Control and Creation: The post moves where haven't been good last in 2k9. Long, boring animations, always at the same speed, with no difference in what player used it and too easy to anticipate. But also here, no gameplay, no opinion. About the turbo thing. I am not sure if that's the golden solution for prevent cheesing. However 2k really needed to do something about their fatigue simulations.
Association: DraftClass Import via 2kShare. AWESOME. Something Live should think about for sure. Very important especially for Association guys like me. Include it with NCAA BB 10 and please also for PAL (2k already screwed me on that one)
82games.com: Well it's clear that you guys came up with a great idea by including Synergy in your game. I am also very positive that Synergy is way more professional than 82games (no disrespect), but we are talking about a company supporting pro clubs with amazingly detailed stuff. I am convinced that this is EA's treasure, not to mention, that you guys have already more than a year of experience with it.
Graphics: I do love 2k's graphics. I just think that the colour palette they use feel more real than Live's does (I wouldn't say cartoonish, though--> FIFA Street has been cartoonish), from what I saw in pics and the past games. But I noticed that this seems to be a thing of taste as many guys here feel different. However I do think that for the first time Live's detail for players seems to be slightly better.
So keep up the great work, love you guys interacting with the fans. Only complaint is why do we need to wait until October...Even the Oktoberfest itself is coming in earlier...Basketball Champions League Roster http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ns-league.htmlComment

I made a thread before about how the double team mechanic in Live needs be improved, because as it is, I don't like it personally.
It's basically "bring 2 defenders near the ball-handler, wait for the animation to kick-in (with no variety at all in the double team animations I might add), then just wait for the trapped guy to make a pass (always perfect passes also - no deflections, no wild, inaccurate passes) or to put up a shot". There's no feeling of a struggle at all.
So to follow-up on Melman's q, has the double-team mechanic been changed for Live 10?Comment
