Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread
My final impressions:
- Great work to Mike, Steph and the team. A huge improvement on LIVE 09.
- The series is back. 100% back on track.
For me though...there's too many fundamentals still missing. I am going to go with the other game for my season. The Draft Combine spoiled me. I need my fundamentals covered
I won't go into detail here as I don't want to spoil guys fun and people are clearly loving LIVE this season. Enjoy your seasons fellas. Great season to be an NBA gamerComment

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread
Just played the Celtics vs Suns and Nash took me to town by scoring 41. He was literally unstoppable. At one point I double teamed him, and he did an up and under and hit a jumpshot with his left hand....from the top of the key!
One thing I'm realizing about myself is that when it comes to b-ball games, I'm a sore loser. I find it hard to enjoy the gameplay when I'm losing more than I win.Comment

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread
Well, got in my first full 12 min game last night. Thoroughly enjoyable albeit a little easy as it was on allstar.
I was the Heat at home against the Magic. Wade had 14 in the 1st but was shooting poorly. Would have been no more than 5 points between us through the first two and a half quarters but we pulled away by 12 by the end of the 3rd. Wade had 33, 3 boards and 2 assists to this point.
After reading here about possible comebacks by the CPU, I was wary but we just pressed and the Magic had no answer. The crowd was amazing down the stretch. With every big three, it would erupt. Wae became the facilitator as the Magic were throwing doubles at him. What I loved was they were mixing up the doubles. Sometimes coming hard, sometimes holding back guarding the space in case I moved whilst still guarding another player.
It was an easy win in the end. They never got to within 18 in the last. Wade finished with 43, 8 boards and 7 assists. I don't like Chris Quinn but the Magic just gave him no respect and he dropped 6 threes on them. All open shots once Wade split the D. We shot 47% to their 41%. Dwight was quiet but Vince dropped 20 plus.
Very enjoyable game. Some quirkiness though. Fastbreaks are an issue even though I didn't expect to see too many this game. Rebounds sometimes hit the floor and blocking is ugly. Stats would read both teams combined for 10 elbow or shoulder blocks and a few real hand blocks.
Atmosphere equals amazing though.Comment

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread
I haven't bought an EA basketball game since 1995, or a 2k one since 2007.
Basketball is my favorite sport to watch, and the only sport I know how to play at a high level. However, the video games to me always seemed to lack something that made the game fun and rewarding. Although I can't play any of the following sports, for video game intensity and that "chess match" competition, I have always played baseball and recently football.
NBA Live 10 is the most fun I've had with a basketball game in recent memory. This game rewards "basketball plays" and is not the "run to the other side and dunk, defend, repeat" nonsense in hopes of ending with the highest score. If I perform a pick and roll correctly, Amare Stoudemire WILL hit the jump shot most of the time - just like in real life! If I play off the ball, call for a screen with a good shooter, get open, call for the pass and shoot - it goes in! This game rewards good basketball play, and I think that's either what's been missing from all previous basketball games, or maybe just never explained properly in other games.
The sound is top notch. Nothing is dull or lifeless. The PA sounds are the same ones I'm familiar with while watching Suns home games. An Amare dunk and a Steve Nash 3-pointer have their own PA sounds, exactly the same ones in the real arena. I'm not sure if this is categorized as "presentation" or not, but I think this makes the game feel alive and real.
This is also the most realistic looking basketball game I've seen. It looks like what I've been watching on TV over the years. When I bring up the play call menu and my attention is diverted, (not to say only when you're not focusing) there's almost no telling the difference between this and watching it on TV.
Having not regularly played basketball games I have a lot of catching up to do. I still don't know how to make the game "flow" or look real with dribbling moves and spin moves.
I only have a few suggestions to make the game even better. For one, when throwing or calling for (on offball play) an alley-oop, it appears as if the dunker goes into slow motion. I'm not sure if this is due to my poor timing and the system "making it work" for me or if there's just straight up slow down - don't know.
Also, it seems no sooner than my center downlow pulls down an offensive rebound that the ball is stolen away from him. Basically, as soon as I realize I still have the ball in my possession, the ball is gone and my opponent is sprinting down court.
What else? Oh yeah, again, being so new and needing to catch up -- I'd really, REALLY like a place to practice plays. I mean maybe a half-court situation with or without an opposing team. I want to run the same play over and over and over until I understand. It kind of sucks that I have to do this in game and wait until I get the ball back to try again. I'm the kind of learner that likes to know things right now. I need to do it repeatitively for a long time in order for it to become second nature.
Props to EA for making a FUN basketball game. I think that's what it all comes down to with any sports game. Fun absolutely must prevail or else who gives a crap.
I am looking for other users that are new to the Live series to play online. I'd like to see my progress against people who are also in the same shoes. Please msg me or add me on Xbox, my gamertag is "Jingle Johnson"Last edited by bakesalee; 10-08-2009, 09:09 PM.Comment

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread
I've never saw so many 3pt basket fall in a basketball in my life. Contested or open, turnaround J's from 25ft out nothing but net. Please patch this, this is such a good game man defense is non existent on the perimeter. I mean literally anybody can pick this game up and just come down and pull 3pter's all day.
Where is this Sim superstar lobby I heard about, I need to play on SS difficulty. AS isn't cutting it.Comment

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread
Loving this game the more I play it and the more I get used to it. I'm getting really comfy with the Knicks and it's a blast to use them.
It is tough to get down different player's sig shots. I can't get Melo's at all, I'm clanking every jumper with him - same with Steph Curry. Sucks there isn't a regular practice mode to use these guys, just gotta hope certain guys show up in the hangar (and I'm almost positive Curry never is).
My biggest problem right now is that there is a huge imbalance in the CPU's defense and your CPU/AI teammates' defense.
The CPU will jump plenty of passing lanes and block a lot of shots for the opposition but your CPU-controlled teammates do hardly anything on the defensive end of the court outside of hitting the glass. The CPU can throw lazy cross court passes and get away with it, if the user tries to do that then forget it, it's stolen 99% of the time (as it should be). I probably see one pass per game that gets intercepted by my CPU teammate. The other team will pick off a dozen easily so things really need to be evened out between the user and CPU."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread
No patch is needed for this. Just:
a - Don't shoot with a defender right in your face
b - Don't try and pass THROUGH opponents
c - Don't dribble into the paint with a bunch of defenders in there
You know, play REAL basketball.
Im just frustrated with the game right now. If EA releases a patch to reduce the blocks and steals, that will help a great deal. Another problem I have is, I was playing with the Hornets and Chris Paul couldn't outrun the defense. It seems like you can't blow past anyone no matter who you are playing with.Comment

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread
I really think in this game you could throw a shot up with your back completely to the basket and your face looking at the opposite basket and this game won't take into account the difficult of the shot, It just feels like once the ball is in the air it's % based no matter what and that shouldn't be the case.
I'm a defensive type of guy and I take pride in playing solid defense, and to feel like your playing excellent defense only to have some scrub who has no idea of basketball and the way it should be played just come down every possession and jack up contested 3's and they still fall is disappointing. It was no where near as bad in Live 09. I mean not even remotely close.
Another thing as well, I have yet to see 1.......not 1 tipped put back miss. And once a player gets an offensive rebound and goes back up for a layup, if you don't block it it's money 95% of the time.Comment
