That's great to hear, thanks for the prompt response. Also, can you just remove backcourt charges altogether, or at least tone it down a lot? Online sometimes is frustrating (but not as bad as in 2K) because people just cheese by taking charges in the backcourt all the time...they definitely won't get the call in real life.

Regular shots for sure...haven't tried layups yet but they should work as well.

I don't want to remove them altogether. Since it's a user control it should execute consistently everywhere.

Why is it an exploit online? Is the responsiveness in dribbling not high enough that you can stop or go around the defender in time?

Take charge is one of my features so I'm particularly interested in balancing it correctly.

Exactly that, you can't stop and go around a defender. In Live 10' after catching a pass and turning your player automatically moves forward, during which a cheeser would plant himself in front of you as you turned to get the charge.

Another charging cheese is when you're sprinting, the defender can set a pick in front of you faster than you can move left or right(around).

I remember I quit online SPECIFICALLY because guys would take the PG and run exactly into the "point of no return" for the ball handler to get a charge in the backcourt.

the problem is actually 3 fold.

              1. responsiveness. if this is better in elite then this problem will go away. From the videos it seems that the players are more responsive so that is good. the reason this is so bad in 2k is because of the ridiculous lack of responsiveness.

              2. inability to call a screen in the back court. last years live had this feature but 2k didnt't so make sure you keep this ability. one reason that players don't full court press all the time is that it sets you up for a nasty pick if you don't see it coming. since you are in the back court you can push the ball up court, and if you have your center set up in the back court, the defending point guard will sprint right into the screen. i think that people that have trouble with backcourt charge taking didn't know you can set a screen in the back court. however you need to make it so if the defender runs full speed into a pick he gets knocked on the floor. here is an example:

this creates a five on four fast break.

              3. inability to tell your teamates to stay in the back court when defense is playing full court press. this is the biggest problem. when a team in the nba full court presses, you will see most of the team stay in the backcourt. This makes it easier to advance the ball. Without this ability you are having to go one on one against their point guard so now you're worrying about getting it across half court AND avoiding a charge call. It's so much easier to advance the ball if you can make 2 or 3 short passes instead of trying to dribble it all the way upcourt with one player.

in the same video you can see that there are 4 offensive players in the back court since the defense is full court pressing.

if you take care of these 3 things, full court cheese pressing will be bye bye, and back court charge cheesing will be gone as well.

Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)

                i had another question.

                1. In nba live 10 right bumper made your player stay around the person he was guarding. This was great for me when me and my friends play on the same team because sometime you and the player you're are guarding are down court and therefore off of the tv screen. by pressing right bumper you stayed around the player until you came on the tv screen and then you could let go of right bumper and play some real defense. In 2k they didn't have this ability so so many times my friend would be guarding ray allen off screen and didn't know where ray allen was. Then the computer would pass to ray allen who was wide open nail the uncontested shot. This is the most frustrating thing when me and my friends play together so it was always so nice to play live for this one reason. of course 2k has many things that were good so it was still fun to play, just extremely frustrating when you are up by 1 point and the computer does that.

do we still have this Right bumper defensive assist live 10 ability?

                thanks so much.

Not to worry, we're not getting rid of calling screens in the backcourt. In fact you can switch off ball, have the cpu bring the ball up court, and crush the cheesing defender yourself by setting your own pick.

                    sweet!!!!!!!!!!

what about my 3rd point? any chance of being able to get 3 or 4 of your teamates to stay in the back court when the defense is full court pressing?

I suppose if the defender got up early for the block, hanging could give you enough time to wait for him to come down. Or to create separation if you're doing a fade away?

What I'm getting at is why would you ever want to choose to use the late release timing? If you can give me compelling enough reasons that don't require risky/significant changes to the way it currently works, the argument to change things becomes easier.

                      Thanks for the ideas.
                      Classic example:

                      <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_bvyUcmFgMA&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_bvyUcmFgMA&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Modern explanation - to dodge a block; to stay in the air as long as possible so you can fake shoot and pass to a cutter, to draw a foul on a guy from behind or in front who bit on a shot fake.

WOw great question for those of us that play with teamates(online and off) or use the 5 vs 5. It must remain for this issue alone.

No, right bumper is no longer defensive assist.

That's an interesting use of the feature that I'd never heard before.

There might be another way we can give you what you want.

No promises, but I'll keep it in mind.

Thanks for looking into it. I dont think people realize how much fun this game is when playing with someone. Making that pass for an open 3 is just as rewarding as shooting it.

Also why Icon passing is needed so we can pass it directly to our other user controlled player.
