I was in NBA 2K3, so there's not an NBA imposed ban on this feature if that's what you are getting at. And it could easily be done with this wretched points system... It was done perfectly in 2k3, when you were over the cap and went to sign a player, they would ask you if you wanted to use your veteran's exemption on that player (or something to that extent), so it could easily be done...

Re: The Official FA \"Bug\" Thread.
I have read all of the these complaints about this FA bug but i think u guys are not going to get EA to fix this one because this is not exactly a FA bug in so much as it is a new point system instead of "money" to sign FAs. Let me explain. In the real NBA teams can provide other means of paying their stars money so that it wont show up against the cap in such a way that it hurts the team. And it can be spread out over so many years. Even though EA says that "if its in the game, its in the game" their new point system will not allow for this because it is treated as someone mentioned earlier as a hard cap. SO with that said, the computer is actually being smart as to how it handles the cap. Instead of tying up all its points/money in one star, it tries to build through the draft and signing less expensive FAs. So i cant blame the cpu for getting rid of Iverson (since thats the name that keeps coming up) to build smartly. THen its stands to reason that no other cpu team will do that also and force the star to take the league minimum. Thats how it goes down. Now I dont believe EA will fix that this year..the best we die hard fans can hope for is that they fix this next year...so by all means tell them how to fix the money/point system but dont call in or write in about a FA bug. I am trying to save you guys from wasting your breath. If you do make sure you complaing about the right thing. Until next year's fix...happy ballin. I do understand how its a problem though...just make sure you guys see what they did with the point system. Call and write and complain about that. DOn't think we will see a replacement disk or patch. Holla back and tell me what u guys think.

My take on this may be insensitive to others' needs but, how in the hell were any of you who deem this a "game-killer" ever able to play sports games before the franchise mode was born? I mean, lets take a step back for a minute here....Great game with plenty of excellent improvements, but you say you'de rather not play this great game because of one facet of a secondary feature( and yes, before you get your panties bunched all up, it is well known that the vast majority of consumers who play these games DO NOT USE THE FRANCHISE OPTION. It's frosting. For every angry letter about off-season moves glitch they are probably getting 500 happy letters about how good the GAMEPLAY is from the "rest" of the gaming communuty, who don't frequent Sports gaming sites-WE ARE THE MINORITY)
Plus has anyone screaming bloody murder actually played an entire 82 game schedule yet or do you usually sim to get to the off-season? If you sim, then what the heck does it matter which game you do it on, you've taken the actual gameplay out of the equation, so in essense you would honestly do better getting a nice Franchise simulator for the PC, joining a Virtual GM league, or just wait for ESPN.
I'm usually a big EA *****, but I like what they did on the hardwood, isn't that what matters? And please save the "If we don't complain it won't get any better" tripe. They. Don't. Care. They will still make a ton of money and get plenty of critical acclaim and toss this problem on the list of stuff to adress next year.
If its a game-killer for YOU, no need for the righteous indignation, just wait for the game that lets you maintain a solid, glitch-free franchise and knock yourself out....

You make a lot of good points. What did we do before THE FRANCHISE was born? I still had a blast with my sports games and in a sense, you can still have a blast with this game if you so desire.
You are correct about people who buy the game and immediately sim to the end of the season just to see what happens. But that's their deal...they are entitled to use the game as they see fit if they laid their $50 down.
But I think the real issue here is accountability. People paid for a game with a full featured franchise and that's not what they got with this game. Is the game that good that people will attempt to artificially work around this problem just so they can play it? Or is it simply that it is the only game out at this point and they so desperately want a basketball fix that they will put up with anything just to have one right now?
Would this debate be so heated if the other two games were already out? Either way, people are entitled to what they paid for. Based on most of the discussion in this thread, there really is no true workaround for this problem, at least not one that is a definitive solution.
I have read this thread with interest all day as I had intentions of buying the game to tide me over until ESPN comes out next week. I have played an entire 82 game season before so this bug might eventually get me so I have decided not to buy the game at all. Not saying it's a bad game, but I just don't think I want to line the pockets of a developer that can so casually [censored you naughty boy] on their customers as EA does. First Madden and now this, two of the biggest gaming screwups in history by the same company within months of each other.
Good luck to those of you that ride it out, I hope EA fixes the game for you.No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?
