Re: Live 2004 : Reviewed from an ID / 2K perspective

originally I bought live just to pass time. I have not liked the way Live was heading after playing
2002 and 2003 but this year I am very impressed by it and has alot of potential to improve in the future. Its not perfect by any stretch but its as good as any game out there. There are a couple of things though that have to be fixed. While I like Fratello and Marv Albert the presentation in the game is horrible compared to other games in the market. Maybe they can reach an agreement with a company like TNT to copy there broadcasting style. This is something that doesn't add to gameplay but makes it more realistic.

Also while i like the way crowds act during the games that can get better also. They can be louder when we go on runs or when the opposing team is shooting freethrows. They should also show cut scenes of the crowd.

There Dynasty mode has to be fixed. This is really what gets on my nerve because we have had the same dynasty mode for the last 5 years. Why is it so hard to do something like NCAA basketball is doing and actually allow you to play with recruits to get a feel for them, in the pro version we should be allow to work out players out during the draft instead of just looking at numbers, we should be allowed to make draft day deals and move up if we see a player falling. The franchise mode in all of these basketball games really bother and really hope it gets fixed next year.

As far as the actual game play Im very impressed the only thing next year is trying to tone down the pro hop and giving us more low post movesThey probably have the best post game of all NBA games out but its still very limited.Maybe somehow they can give us the option to make a jump hook, hookshot, up and under moves. All in all this is a very solid game.

Can you please clarify what you would like to see? I happen to like the presentation, as it is all about "playing ball". I'm guessing that ESPN has a whole bunch of cut scenes, which certainly will probably enhance the "presentation", but don't most people pass by the cut scenes after one time anyway? Do you simply want a TNT "overlay" for the score, or do you want the camera to cut away from the action on the court to show fans, Marv and Fratello, etc? Thanks

getting TNT in the game would be cool, they had TNT for live 99 right? well i was thinking they can have TNT's INSIDE THE NBA show at the end of your game to show scores and stats and highlights and have Kenny Smith, EJ, and Charles Barkely in there too...thatd be pretty cool..probably not likely to happen though..

Anyone, point guards, scoring guards, and forwards should be able to use this as the pro hop or jump stop as it is commonly called is used primarily to "create space" in order for a player to get his shot off. Whether it's abused in a game is up to the user.

I, as the user, am hardly using it...i reserve it for the all star type player on my team, and no -one else

It's the cpu who are using it too much IMO. I played the Jazz last night (man are they bad in the game ) and Mark Jackson was pro hopping into the paint.

That's 400 year old Mark Jackson springing up and down like he's Vince Carter.

It's not a game killer, it just would have been an absolutely GREAT feature if only guys with all star type skills could do it. I watch a tonne of basketball, and it's not a move you see from non athletic players IMO.

Great review. Just wanted to let u know after a few tests I have found that the "User On-Ball Defense Assist" Slider (i think thats what its called) could help. I found that if u raise this slider, the CPU WILL INDEED take more mid range jumpers and do less of the pro hop move. I THINK that I have mine at 85 (im at work so I'm just thinking off the top of my head....) but I'm 99.9% sure that is what I have it set at. The CPU will still attempt to drive to the hoop, but not as much as they settle for outside shots.
                              Hope that helps.

Like I said, if Carter, Finley, Stackhouse, T-Mac come at me with the pro hop...I love it.

It's only when you see Mark Jackson, Eric Snow, KVH etc doing it, you start to think hmmmm
