While I agree that animations are very high on the list (i.e. signature animations) I believe player models are more important. We started with faces, next should be to get every player on the court to look like they do in real life. Then on to your sentiment, act and move like they do in real life.
Having a player look exactly like they do in real life but animate like they are crippled gets you nowhere.
And maybe you misunderstood my point about animations. I'm not even talking about signature animations. Yes you need them but get the basics right first.
Maybe to the guys in your studios eyes the players are moving naturally. But to everyone on the outside (which ultimately matters because we're the ones who will be buying your product) they're not.
It seems to me like you guys are making a cake but you're starting with the icing first. Your batter tastes like crap (no offense). So no matter how pretty you make it..no one's going to eat it.Comment

Then I would suggest the bigger team and the bigger priority be the one working on the basics of basketball. A few sales might come from the 100 hours spent on faces, but you aren't going to sustain them off just that.Comment

The last items keeping me from playing Madden are these:
1. Unnatural motion animations.
2. Accurate DL/OL interaction
3. Decoupled fronts and coverages.

The way people are talking up the presentation and commentary on these boards EA should just go ahead and release the commentary on itunes.
People are complimenting a baker for icing and frosting when the baker failed to mix the cake flour, sugar, eggs, and butter thoroughly as well as under baking the cake.Comment

Ha, it's funny that he calls it the "Ad" council. The Freudian slip is funny.
You guys really just need to get most of the guys that I told you about down there. The only positive I can see from the AC has been them saying the game isn't ready. Problem is - you heard that here and in volume. You don't need guys from AC to tell you that.
I agree the game needs to animate naturally above all else at this point. Whomever is in charge of mo-cap REALLY needs help. There are plenty of ways you can do this. You don't have to use NBA talent to get it to look right - in fact I would hope you aren't given their costs.
The art team needs to just get the game looking somewhat solid. There will never, ever be a universally accepted likeness that EVERYONE will agree on. Look at the wax figures in Madam Tussaud - they look scarily similar but they are not always exact replica's. They look "good enough" though and that's what you should be doing here.

Do you see how natural and player specific most of this looks? Even the wrists were animated well. The hands weren't given enough resources graphically but at the time we thought it was a start. Unfortunately the final product was much more sloppy, but there was still the capacity to have some cool little moments:

Somewhere, this got lost. For as much as fans of 2k bitch and moan, what keeps them coming back is not only the gameplay depth but the signature animations. Hell, they've even expanded on the many areas they've lacked in over the past few years and that's something NBA Live hasn't done.

Just curious, how many guys are on the player movement team, compared to the faces and player models team?
The focus really needs to be on the movement/gameplay. The players could look 100% accurate to the "T", but if it doesn't play a good game of basketball, nobody is going to care, to put it bluntly. Gameplay should be the focus at this point, based off of what little we have seen.
NBA Live 10 was fairly solid, the team should look back at that code, instead of the code from NBA Elite. Not exactly sure why the team went away from that, as gameplay-wise, it was definitely on the rise.Comment

The email I sent to the EAC devs back in 06, still rings true to this day with the main problem with NBA Live. Its sad I wrote that email 6 years ago, and here it is 2012 and the same main issue is still present. These guys have no clue. New devs, same old issues...NBA Live is the epitome of Cancel Culture..

I honestly think Live needs to be gutted, from the foundation on. I mean, lets keep it real, there is no way Live can compete with 2K on this generation of consoles. The one thing most Live players liked over 2k was the dribble stick. 2k now has that too. I say just scrap Live on current gen. I'm sure the devs either already have, or are very close to obtaining the specs for the new PS4 and Xbox. Just start now coding Live for the next gen of consoles. The only way Live will be able to compete with 2k is for them to come out the gate strong on next gen consoles. You already know 2k is bringing it.Comment

Respectfully...I wholeheartedly disagree.
Having a player look exactly like they do in real life but animate like they are crippled gets you nowhere.
And maybe you misunderstood my point about animations. I'm not even talking about signature animations. Yes you need them but get the basics right first.
Maybe to the guys in your studios eyes the players are moving naturally. But to everyone on the outside (which ultimately matters because we're the ones who will be buying your product) they're not.
It seems to me like you guys are making a cake but you're starting with the icing first. Your batter tastes like crap (no offense). So no matter how pretty you make it..no one's going to eat it.Comment

LIVE is done, EA has shown us this. 2 yrs of development and this is what they give us?? Smdh...I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...Comment

I think the voices in this thread say it the best. I've basically given up on giving input at this point, because it's apparent that it's falling on def ears. There is no logical reason for the game to be at the stage that you've shown in both the trailer and the leaked footage. It may play better than what it shows on videos, but then again, that wouldn't be too much of an accomplishment because the videos are dreadful.
Go back to my 3 year cycle thread... it's a vicious cycle that never gets us any closer to that elusive final product.Twitter - WTF_OS
