Re: NBA LIVE 14 plays like real basketball (Watch closely)
now i will let you in on this secret. the title of the thread is just like the new titles you see on gossip sites. is it true to the thread? well.. kinda. but is it exactly what was being discussed in this thread. some what. meaning do i really think nba live is some great basket ball sim? the answer is.......
......
.....
NO.
but i do think it has some real good sim stuff in its foundation. which tells me if they actually do patch the stuff we are crying about. the game could be a legit option for people who really want a more sim like game.
i'll always admit when a game has its good qualities no matter how much it sucks in other areas. live isnt the first game i've done this for. its just the fact nowadays you only have 1 or 2 basketball titles. not sure how old you are. but there was a game by 989 studios. the game looked like CRAP visually. but a couple of versions of the game played as close to sim ball, and gave the user a lot of options where you felt you were really in control. in comparison to even nba live that was out back then and another title(dont remember who else was out at the time). and all the nba live lovers went ham on me about that back then.
people blind themselves when they get ticked off about something they dont like. they refuse to see any good in it. because the bad to them is to great. i dont think that way. i see good in everything that has good in it. now if it sucks thru and thru.well it sucks.
anyone remember that kobe bryant basketball game? that gamed SUCKED...but wait. no it didnt. the game play sucked. the graphics sucked in the game play. but what i always admitted they had going for them is that story mode. well look what we have now with 2k14? those dudes pretty much took that kobe bryant game's story mode theme and applied it to their mycareer.
the more us bball fans find the good in these games that dont have everything going for them. and request that some game makes a solid game with great gameplay and these other good features like game A, or game B. then you will see companies like Ea or 2k try to copy what those games have done. to give you a more complete game. this is why i will never just call a game bad thru and thru if thats not the case.Comment

Re: NBA LIVE 14 plays like real basketball (Watch closely)
Nobody is in here saying you can't have fun with whatever you want, it's your money and ultimately your opinion. But some are coming in here and saying Live is the most sim basketball game and how it plays better than 2k and then claiming it's more sim for them because they have better BBIQ's than everyone else is just asinine.
Most of us in here want to see live succeed, and there wouldn't be so much sarcasm in here if it wasn't for posters turning a blind eye to everything and having to deflect every single little thing that's wrong with Live, everyone else sees problems, but others have to try to make up anything just to justify it. Every game has it's flaws, but you can't act like your game is perfect and try to prove to the majority of people that unrealistic plays are all apart of sim gameplay.
some people are so hardcore fans of a title and not of the genre called video game basketball. that they will hate on anything they see. if it looked pretty. they will nit pick it. and try to find every little glitch they can to say "see its not better then....[insert which ever game they love most]"
and i dont care what people say in their replies. i've been around long enough, not just in OS, but other sites and talking to people. to know how people will lie and say thats not the case but evidence shows thats how they are if you pay good attention to what they say about the game they like vs the game they dont like.
and yes, a lot of people dont have high basketball iq's. yes i sad it. call it what you want to call it. i've played enough basketball in my lifetime. as well as seen enough basketball in my lifetime to know the difference.
MOST people have a LOW basketball IQ.
i'll take it a step further. a lot of nba players. have a really LOW basketball IQ.
i'll take it a step further. a lot of coaches (kiddy leagues, ymca leagues, park/rec league, high school, travelling team, juco, semi pro, nba d league, to the NBA)... are not great basketball minds just because they are around basketball a lot.
its not just how much you've played or how much you read a playbook. its how you break down those things to defeat your opponent.
basketball is a game of chess. its not checkers. can you survive playing checkers? sure. if the opponent is on a checkers level as well.
i'll prove it to you. most coaches lose, more then they win. and ist not just about personnel. they are just bad coaches. its that simple.
a lot of guys are coaches because they've been around the game for a very long time and they know a lot of people around the game so people ASSUME "oh he should make a good coach." SHOULD is the key word.
a lot of nba players are really just hard workers and geniuses as picking up certain moves. rather then good at being chess players on the court. on top of the fact they are extremely gifted from birth with speed, quicks, hops, strength, height/length/size, agility. or all of the above.
what these players are good at better then average joes. is seeing a move that someone does and they can literally pick the move up in a matter of a week or less rather then 2 months it will take the average ball player. but they dont know where to apply said move. unless they work really hard on it and practice it 100's of times a day.
there's a difference to me doing big man moves in the post(drop steps, up and unders). a 100 times per day vs a defender. working on my game. then going into the game and playing 100's of games per year. to the point where i know most people's tendencies that defend me. so i use two moves over and over. then when i meet a defender that can stop my two moves i go into a shell because i dont know how to go to another counter move. i havent worked on another counter move 100's of times vs 100's of defenders like i did those other moves.
vs
me learning those same moves and killing people with said moves. then meeting this guy that stops my first initial move and my 2nd intial move. then i know "oh, i need to give this guy this other move." only a very few players understand that. those players have HIGH basketball IQ's. same applies to defensive minded guys.
many players dont know how to play the angles on defense. they are just really long, really quick, athletic, and agile. but once they go up against a high IQ guy on offense. their defense looks like crap all of a sudden. WHY? because they were relying on their physical talents more so then their bball IQ.Comment

Re: NBA LIVE 14 plays like real basketball (Watch closely)
i wish i had an iphone right now. maybe you do. if so.
download this app(if free of course)
^^thats about as close as i've seen a test get to measuring ones basketball iq. they showed mark cuban doing the refs challenge as well on a youtube video.
and nothing i said here says NO ONE has a high bball iq. i said MOST people dont. you may be the in the minority of people who do have a high hoop iq.
i'll give you something simple. most people kids to grown ups. dont realize uhhh cut the guys strong hand off and he will not be able to score or dribble drive. (MOST PEOPLE, that are not elite ball players).
and to boot most people's right hand is their strong hand.
as simple as that is. do you know how many kids, to grown ups STILL dont know that? it would increase their defensive ability probably by a multiple of 2 if they did just that and nothing else changed in their defense. even if they're slow and non athletic.
now for the average joe offensive guy who can only go right cause he's never used his left hand. forget working on your left when you're 40 years old. lol. just know a spin move from right to left. can be used a lot to get around guys who cut off your right hand. now if you can at least bounce the ball with your left(lol). you should spin off of a guy trying to completely cut off your right side. with the ball in the left hand, spin to the right side. mid spin let the ball go and bounce it with your right hand. its very difficult for an average defender stop that. because now your body is in between the ball and the defender. these two spin moves will increase your offense a great deal if you are the guy that just cant go left at all.
great footwork even if you dont have a great handle on the ball(as long as you have average ball control to the point where you wont dribble off your foot or you wont allow guys to just pick your pocket at will). but great footwork trumps a great crossover. because a great crossover is only great if you understand where to place your feet before you make the move(setting the guy up). and after you make the move(to blow by the guy or step back for the jumper).
why is it that jimmer fredette and jj reddick are not as good as steph curry in the nba?
all 3 guys were lights out from distance in college. no one could stop them in college. but why is it only steph is money and still unstoppable in the nba?
i would go out on a limb and say even though jimmer i believe is the smallest of the three. he's more athletic then all of them. and he seems to be physically stronger.
but yet. even he cant duplicate what curry is doing.
FOOT WORK.
jj reddick has solid footwork for a shooter coming off of a screen. putting that lead foot out the moment you come around that screen. he's great at that. but when it comes to footwork when the ball is in these guys hands. they just dont have it on an elite level.
you need elite footwork to get past these nba monsters(guys that are 6'8+ with wingspans of a 7 foot center, jumping out of the gym, while moving like a point guard.)Comment

Re: NBA LIVE 14 plays like real basketball (Watch closely)
Here's an idea. For those questioning other's basketball IQ and not playing the game right, there's this cool new thing on your remote called the share button. Pick up the sticks, hit the button and show how the game is supposed to be played and demonstrate what you're seeing when you're playing that the rest of us clearly aren't while we're being blinded by graphics and the "not 2Kness" of the whole thing. Now I know for at least one of you that isn't possible since you don't even have a system (and yet still manage to jump on other people's opinions that don't have the game or haven't played the demo), but you other guys, let's go ahead and get these streams popping.
see, i can win if the goal posts will keep being moved. people say they love game A or b all the time with no real reason why. they say they hate or love certain aspects of certain games. but rarely give detail as to why or why not. i gave detail. people tried to play it like they couldnt see the video that was posted. and just started repeating what they have said in other live negative threads. i'm like we have more then enough of those to complain about the stuff you dont like. i'm talking what pieces to the game that work well. most just cant let that sink in because they are on a "i hate live"kick. meaning nothing live does is good. NOTHING. and dont say presentation. we're talking about actual game play.
i also admitted when i made the incorrect move with the controls. once i learned more i no longer get blown by like i did when i first picked the game up.
this is how it went. i read OS. cause i sold that ps4 the day i got it. for a flip.
i already knew i was getting the xbox the follow weekend. so i wanted to see/hear what you guys were saying about the game. i went in knowing good and well live was not going to be on par looks wise with 2k. if it did. that would've been a miracle. i was going in already looking for glitches and issues. but i did want to see if the foundation of legit basketball was there or not. if not. game over.. live is done. if so. okay boys we have something to work with going forward.
i saw the later. we have something to work with going forward.
i picked the game up after reading posts talking about "hey, is it just me or can anyone stop the cpu from just blowing by them on the perimeter?"
i heard this over and over again. next thing i know. i'm getting blown by when i pick the game up for the xbox. and i'm like wow. something isnt right.
i was waiting on that collision bump feel you get with 2k now. the problem is, people dont remember that we complained about that bumping being a bit to much or over exaggerated in 2k before. it still is. but some may prefer over exaggerated reality as opposed to reality which you cant feel.
prime example. i play ball right. i'm defending a guy in real life. if he breaks me down off the dribble. i'm not going to FEEL his body touch mines in anyway shape or form. now can i crowd the guy then feel him? YES. but if i'm not all up on him. i wont feel him. live allows you to feel the guy if you're up on him and intentionally bump him or if you completely cut off his drive move and make the offensive guy run into you.
if you want to get on his shoulder and slightly lean on him. you can do that in live. and you will feel the similar 2k vibration of the bumping.
most people obviously didnt know this. if they did they would not have said early on "you cant feel anything".
people obviously didnt read and take head to what EA posted about the controls and how you must play defense to stop offensive guys from killing you. i posted this in this thread. once i read it. and applied it. my defense was a lot better. but it only took me 2 games to figure it out. why? because #1 me having a good bball iq on defense in real life. already told me "SHADE this guy so he cant go that way...wait so how do you shade in LIVE? can you even do it in live. like you can in 2k?"
the answer is Yes you can. once i figured it out. now i have to choose correctly which side to shade. how much distance to give the guy based on what he can do on the court and what his tendencies are.
this is why it was a lot easier for me to figure out the defense then it was for some others.
you can know the controls and still get torched because you still dont know how or when to play the angles on defense. that takes a certain level of hoop intelligence a lot of people dont have. which is why EA put that thing out about the controls. if you read that and pay attention they are teaching the fundamentals of defense.
sorry this isnt some pick up and play game like it use to be.
it just isnt. but i'm ok with that. some people dont like that aspect of it. and they can have that opinion.
Where EA made a huge mistake with that style of realistic gameplay and defense/offense. is not having a practice gym and/or tutorials(similar to what 2k has). not having that area to work on your REAL basketball game. is the worst move live made. its even worse then not having great graphics like 2k. here's why. even people like me who will over look a pretty face. cant overlook the lack of a practice area and tutorials. thats just plain stupid of them.
and there's no excuse because people were playing "bouncetek" with 1 guy in a gym. so i know you already have a gym setup with one guy. where we could work on stuff. its almost as if they had the training mode. but someone forgot to add it back in before the game was put up for sale. like "ooops, hey fellas i think i forgot to re-insert the training mode."Last edited by kingpnp3; 11-29-2013, 05:15 PM.Comment

Re: NBA LIVE 14 plays like real basketball (Watch closely)
Bynum has been a good player more recently than Live has even had a game. And Live has shown no real signs of brilliance this year. Like Oden, we're not even sure Live knows how to play basketball anymore.Comment

thats not a troll. but i know you have to fish for the word troll cause you cant address the stuff i posted. like i've said a few times in here. i see a lot of excess hate parade going on. if you hate the game sooooo much. why turn this thread into a 15+ pager? there are threads i never entered because i believe the original post is so ludicrous it doesnt deserve my reply. thats what you guys swear my original post was. but yet you keep replying. i wonder why that is?lol.
just maybe its because i hit a nerve. just maybe their's more truth to what i'm saying then you're willing to let on.Comment
