Anyone else a little irked by the player attributes at IGN?

Note, for those who are snarling in revulsion due to me bringing up the taboo player ratings, I'm not talking about OVR ratings, those I could care less about. I'm more concerned with the meat and potatoes, the actual ratings of individual attributes.

The defensive player of year last season, he should be good for a bunch of points in defensive awareness, right? Try 80. Boris Diaw clocks in at 90. No offense to Boris, I really like the guy, but c'mon.

Then you have FG. Who does not fit in this crowd, in terms of sticking the mid-range shot: Kobe, T-Mac, Rip, 'Toine. That's right, it's Toine beacause he's 6 points higher in FG then the next highest guy! WTF!? (FYI, Kobe's at 75, Rip's at 72, T-Mac is at 71, and Toine is at 81).

I dunno, this is just a handful of players I've looked at, I'm sure there's all sorts of other weird ish in there, like last season. Am I the only one that's bothered by this? I know the response from the peanut gallery is going to be "edit them and shutup", but I did that last season and it killed more than a few hours of my life -- I shouldn't have to pay for a game and invest a boatload of time to get stats to at least attempt to jive with reality. The interface to do large scale edits was absolutely cumbersome. And for all I know, they did all their playtesting with these outlandish values, so who knows what happens to the game when you make those studs actually able to shoot the ball.

I completely agree. The absolutely worst rating problem I saw was with Mark Blount - the Celtics' Center. Last year he shot .566 percent, which was 2nd in the entire league. His FG rating in Live 2005? 46!!! 46!!! I say again, 46!!! His inside scoring? 62 - which is the same as Gary Payton's. They say right in the interview that the ratings are based directly from last year's statistics... so how can the guy with the 2nd highest FG percentage get such a low FG rating? Unreal. They need to get people who actually know about sports to do the player ratings from now on. Unacceptable.

But if the DPOY is rated below a couple scrubs on every team in terms of def. awareness, do you think that stands any chance of "translating well"?

I want to shudder when I go up against Artest, not Boris Diaw.

And yeah, I can change his stats, but a slight that big is indicative to me that there's going to be gaffs all over.

Do they do roster updates for Sharkport/Action Replay for the PS2?

Okay...I'm not normally one to commment on stats...but can someone logically explain how Ben Wallace is an 80 for offensive rebounds.

And Jahidi White is rated 96.

Is there some computer generated logic to that?

Because I doubt you'd find a person on this planet who rates Jahidi White a 10% better offensive rebounder than Ben Wallace.

                            I am confused.
