Yeah, looking at them...there are some VERY strange ratings.Originally posted by BOSsTOwNall i have to say is they got Marcus Banks slower than Pierce!?!?!?!?
Like I said, are they computer generated????
Al Harrington with a lower post up rating than most guards??Comment

i can't wait til this game is out so we can change the ratings and stop this bickering...I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...Comment

Re: Anyone else a little irked by the player attributes at IGN?
I can logically explain it. I'm guessing that whoever did the offensive and defensive rebounds just looked at rebounds per 48 minutes rather than per game or how good a rebounder the guy is actually considered. That way, the game can represent good rebounders who don't get much playing time. If you look at it that way, Jahidi White actually gets more offensive rebounds per minute than Big Ben.Originally posted by monkeyOkay...I'm not normally one to commment on stats...but can someone logically explain how Ben Wallace is an 80 for offensive rebounds.
And Jahidi White is rated 96.
Is there some computer generated logic to that?
Because I doubt you'd find a person on this planet who rates Jahidi White a 10% better offensive rebounder than Ben Wallace.
I am confused.
Ben 4.0 off boards in 38 min per game
White 1.6 in just 14 min per game
I think with all these ratings, we really don't know exactly how they play out in the game, so we might as well wait and see before complaining about it.Comment

Re: Anyone else a little irked by the player attributes at IGN?
That is a reasonable theory, but Ben would be at his 4 for 36min while White would be at 4.34 for 36min. Does .34 offensive boards over a 36 minute span constitute those ratings? I don't think we can really say until we play the game, but it looks suspicious.Comment

Re: Anyone else a little irked by the player attributes at IGN?
I've thought about this some more, and rather than just saying what I think is wrong I want to explain WHY I think it's a problem.
I can think of two scenarios to explain this.
Take Kobe and Toine for example. There's evidence at 82games.com that Kobe shot better than Toine just about anywhere, so the FG ratings (AW at 81, Kobe at 75) is wrong as far as I'm interpreting the attribute. The first scenario I can imagine, and probably the best case, is that their is some interaction amongst the attributes that balances this out. That is, there's some way the stats interact so that Kobe is actually better at sticking the jumper than Toine in the actual game.
This presents a problem -- it means that the already shabbily documented player stats are even more complex then they should be. Trying to simply modify someone's stats because you think he's a better shoot than his shooting in the game, or perhaps better defender or something would involve tweaking a bunch of stats trying to figure out how they interact. Seeing as they'll definitely be some updates to make before the All-star break (the first meaningful official update of rosters according to the developer review), they're going to be confusing and hard to make accurate if just adjusting FG does not do exactly what you expect it to.
The second scenario, suppose that in practice Kobe actually is worse than sticking the midrange jumper than Toine. There's the obvious problem this presents, it seems to indicate that the stats are kind of arbitrary and will need alot of tweaking to get it to be close to reality. But there's a further problem -- they likely balanced the game using these off values. In other words, I wouldn't be surprised if you up Kobe, T-Mac, and Rip's FG to a more respectable level they'll start dropping insane amounts of points on you when the CPU uses them, because they were balanced with their average FG rather than something accurate. So if you want them to stick jumpers more often, you might have to go across the board and tone down a bit of everything to keep them from being too effective, creating some tedious domino effect.
Either scenario, I'm becoming more and more suspicious that their method is just kind of thrown together, which is bothersome because I don't think it's too much for some actual stats that make sense (considering we're paying their salaries, ultimately, and no one is going to pay me to spend hours trying to get the things more realistic). The only other scenario that I can think of that would sidestep all this is if the game's ratings were unlike those at IGN, but that's unlikely because they finished the rosters on Aug. 27th and IGN likely had permission to post those.Comment

Jahidi is actually a really good offensive rebounder though, and if he did play many minutes, he'd probably be one of the league leaders in O-Rebounds. He's not like Mark Madsen who go's in and hustles so much, but you know in 36 minutes no one could play that way the whole time.Originally posted by jujuhoundI can logically explain it.
