Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions

Overall while it still has some legacy issues, the game is extremely fun and feels like a Live 10 successor in my opinion. I love the combo dribbling and the shooting mechanics. I wish everything in the game was as smooth and nice as step-backs are. The one is fun and like the First Take integration. I might be the only one who will probably prefer the league aspect over the street one. Overall a solid game and will be nice to have in rotational with the other game. Good year for B-Ball fans.

By the way, you can throw alley-oops to yourself in practice mode!!!!! Try it out with Lebron or KD! It is extremely fun to do. I was so surprised and happy to see the feature back again! I miss being able to do it in Live 05/06 days! There are a lot of little things like this that make the game really fun!

True point. Truthfully, I'm looking way more forward to The One's progression offline -- I want to go far and deep into The League (give me 20+ years, please?) and The Streets portion -- I really enjoyed the gameplay and the way the experience and upgrade system worked.

I love that I can make progress on traits without having them equipped, so even if I'm not working towards something deliberately, I can still get credit for it if I decide to work on it later. I like all the shoes (I kinda wish they gave me a slight attribute boost -- like, 1 point or 2, tops, just for an added bonus). You better believe I'm going to try to get all the classic Jordan kicks.

I'm hoping the storyline doesn't get more intrusive. I like what they have so far -- some cutscenes, a few texts, and otherwise they stay out of my way. But I'm looking forward to The One more than any MyPlayer mode in the last 7-8 years.
      Any comments are welcome.

In the demo the story mode progresses through The Street offline, Live Run is something additional for online play.

Glad to see that performance matters -- I was hoping to fall to the Suns, honestly, but the 76ers work for me. I just wonder if we're replacing the real draft picks with ourselves -- I kinda want to beat out Fultz for the job, but if I have to replace him with me, so be it.

Yeah, I've played okay for all the games but the last game, I went absolutely nuts. I went like 5-5 and 3-3 from 3pt range or something like that with some assist. It was so good, I honestly thought the gameplay was being scripted lol.

So I went #1 to the 76ers (boy do the jerseys look good, made me want to instantly buy it and jump in the league) but it's definitely good to hear everyone doesn't go #1. Don't know what they are going to do w/ Fultz. Maybe slide to the SG spot.

When I saw I was drafted to the 76ers and got access to my "The League" outfit, I was very, very impressed. Loved the way those jerseys pop and the 76ers have some of the best throwbacks in NBA history.

That said, I didn't see more than 2 "The League" outfit options, which is a bit of a letdown initially, but it's only a demo. I would love to be able to get access to throwback Iverson/Malone/Erving jerseys in "The Streets" if I hit certain goals in the league with certain teams.

For instance, performing a devastating ankle break crossover in the Finals with the 76ers unlocks the Allen Iverson road Sixers uniform from when he crushed Ty Lue.

Or winning a slam dunk contest unlocks an Dr. J jersey.

There's a lot of potential for this thing and I really hope EA took full advantage of it.

I do agree that players that's good at scoring inside is somewhat OP because it's very easy to do. Wish they had implemented having to time your layups. But you can defend it a good amount of times being in the correct positions and timing your blocks.

But I love the layup animations for guards. Smaller players like myself (6' PG) can actually attack the rim somewhat even though it's tough, like a Isiah Thomas or Kyrie. It's like their layups are quicker or something. Still have to have good selection though or it'll get beat.

Vastly prefer the layup system here than in 2K. Playing a small, non-dunking guard in 2K made it impossible to score inside.

But, my 6'3" playmaker can get in there and drive -- even if I miss, I still get performance credit (as long a I don't get blocked). I think certain animation packages are better than others depending on your height, but that's only a theory.

I agree. Just wish you had to time it a little. But I love it. I barely go to the rim in 2K for layups in traffic with my PG.

As a Rim Protector my only thing is it feels like if a layup attempt isnt blocked or met with contact it feels like its about 90% to go in....doesn't feel like 'heavily contested' has enough impact...

Not having much fun with my stretch build in the street games. My teammates just sit there and dribble the shot clock expecting me to get open.

So basically I have to be agressive . Kind of aggravating when Kyrie is trash on your team.

I think some of us on here should link up just to make sure we get to enjoy this how it was intended to be enjoyed

The main thing I wanted EA to do is make a game that had to be played differently from 2k

You really HAVE to play this game slower and very like real basketball

My first couple games was me realizing that all the arcade stuff on 2k has ruined my mind as to what a basketball game should look like. I had like 6 turnovers myself trying to push tempo and get it down Court to a teammate

But and if you've read any of my posts on here or the 2k board I must say I DID NOT GET DOUBLE TEAMMED OR RIPPED ONCE FROM THE POST UP IN ANY GAME I PLAYED YES!!!!!!

I had to get that out. It was freaking nice catching the one pass a game I got and being able to feel out what move I should make without getting ripped or fouled. That alone puts Live SLIGHTLY above 2k on my list right now.

Having now played the demo, i disagree with the the 2k being more arcadey thing. Yeah 2k17 had flaws but it is still a significantly smoother and more refined game. And i dont think never being double teamed should be considered a plus, thats a big part of basketball.

I have to point out, the double-team is there. I got hot in my combine game and got doubled when I crossed halfcourt -- had to pass out a few times, turned the ball over a few times. They will double you at certain points.
