Those First Take scenes with Stephen A and Max are so much like the actual show that it's kind of a testament to how over-acted/theatrical/borderline-fictional their arguments from actual show in real life areComment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
I already posted my impressions and live does need some work. But I've heard and seen a few "this is too arcade" like comments about this title.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but let's not forget : the other game has defenders getting jerked around out of their control due to ankle breaker, and perhaps biggest of all, recently polled their fans how often they think a wide open shot should go in, and had 90% as an option. And as many of us know, people were shooting 60-70% from three which....sounds pretty arcadey to me.
I'll play this more and when the prelude and more info comes out for the other game I'll have a better feel for things. But for now I'm just trying to judge this game while figuring out what can be fixed this year and can't. For example, inside shots go in way too much. That's something that can be fixed. Something to do with animations, likely much more complex.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Played the Live 18 demo.
Dude......superbly fun. Pre-ordered it for $40 bucks. No brainer to play a season of Miami Heat basketball on this title. Easy controls and the fun factor of Live is truly back this year. I have not touched an NBA Live title since the PS2 (NBA Live 06 was my last time with this series).
After years of 2K and the complicated controls (and them changing it almost every freaking year) and far too much canned animations taking over way too often....I feel far more looser and free playing NBA Live.
I will continue to jam 2K17 for my classic My League files which are a lot of fun. My league mode is unmatched in depth and simulation make no mistake.
But there is something to be said for a more casual sports game to have a lot of fun and not think too hard about it. Even play calling, and substitution menus...all intuitive and easy to use. The presentation is also really strong. Not 2K level but very very good and the ESPN license is in full force. Arena and crowd noise though....off the hook. But defense for me is for real on NBA Live. Player weight means something and brickwalled defense on 2K does not apply here.
Really, a pleasant surprise for me.
If you are looking for a more accessible basketball game and not too hung up on signature animations and shoes....this is a great option.
I simply can play one season of my Heat and be happy for the next year.
Great job EA bringing that classic NBA Live feeling back! Now Playing on PS5:

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
I really feel like this game is a lot more fun than 2K. On 2K, I feel like most turnovers aren't my fault. On Live, every turnover could be attributed to something I did wrong. Big men also feel and run like big men in the few games I've played.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
For those who are having issues with jump shots and lag, is your TV on game mode?
I know that is probably a silly question, but I had this issue a while back with a few games and didn't realize I wasn't playing on game mode.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Yep . And didn't have a problem on live 16 or 2k. Soon as I tap the button the shot is late . Should I use the stick ? It's also laggy#1 Laker fan

Do you have the show? That's a good game to test your tv's lag by hitting the ball or pitching with meter pitching.
Also what kind for TV do you have?Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Not really took it away per say, but a LOT less frequent with sliders max out and compared to Live 15.Last edited by 11anthony; 08-11-2017, 02:37 PM.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Anyone have video of this happening? It's happening to more than one person so it's an issue.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Posted this elsewhere but added on after playing a little more.
It's better than what they've been trying to put out in the past no doubt. Something about it just feels off to me but it's that EA feel to the way the players have always moved throughout live. The other game feels more fluid with movement. Live i'm feeling like there's too much momentum to the body movement and it feels like such a large weight transfer from side to side on every movement. It makes the guys feel so sluggish to their movement instead of fast and athletic. NBA players are quick and make fast twitch movements. The Live models feel like they have weighted vests on. For example, I was controlling Paul George off the ball defending Lebron. I was sliding in and out of weakside help defense and Westbrook drove to the lane from the other wing. When I tried to move into the paint to help on D Paul George was so slow and sluggish moving in that I was way too late to even help. Even when shooting, I just feel like I have more control over the player, movement, and shot in the other game. With this I feel like it gets into the animation. Outside of the movement the game does play pretty well. There are some things that might need tweaking, for instances Lebron blocked Paul George from behind on a drive and he grabbed the ball with both hands. Not that he can't do this or wouldn't do it in a game if getting a clear block from someone smaller, but if Paul George is driving to the basket on him i'd expect a regular block in that situation, he just snatched it like it was nothing.
The shooting doesn't feel right. Even with that meter I get it perfect but still miss open shots. Nothing in this game really feels fluid. Driving to the hole is too easy and you're either going to make a difficult layup or get swatted like crazy. The player weight really drags down the fun level of this game. The players again feel way too sluggish and slow to react. I'm already getting bored with the gameplay which is not good after only a couple hours.
I usually don't play those My Player type modes but since I had to for the demo, I did think the inclusion of First Take and the live video story stuff was pretty cool and interesting. Having Max and Stephen A. Smith on First Take though was a smart touch at taking advantage of the ESPN connection. I like the story mode they set you up with better than what the other game had been offering.
Overall a better product than they've been pushing in the past but not really worth a buy. Maybe after a few months when you can get it for under $20 and they've patched a few things but the other game is still clearly head & shoulders better despite the positive direction.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
The shooting is smooth as butter. People are so used to 2k where ur guy can magically pivot off a full speed burst and get off the same exact motion every single time. That is not realistic at all. All the slight variations in the pivoting to shoot on live is real.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Whats funny is- even the biggest Live YTers have been mentioning it on stream...
Livea jump shooting has always been fairly smooth from a neutral position so its a bit bothersome to me....doesn't feel good at all especially on catch and shoot situations to me...and its combined with the fact theres a little delay when you recieve the ball...Last edited by The 24th Letter; 08-11-2017, 02:51 PM.Comment
