That's how it feels to me as well. I'm not a hardcore player so the feel of the controls make it more accessible. I feel like I can pull off or at least attempt alot of the moves. It feels fun & fluid when I play & that's what is most important to me so I'll tend to overlook some of it's flaws that others may not. In sports games I've always preferred the balance of sim with arcade elements sprinkled in. It all comes down to personal preference.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Maybe I'm just too use to 2K but, so far, it's hard for me to get a feel for this game. I've seen a few cool things but as of now I'm a bit disappointed. I think for some people you are either a 2K person or a Live person. There are some people here that prefer the feel and control of Live over 2K and for me it's the complete opposite. I'm going to spend some more time with the demo but my initial impression is better than 16 but still needs some smoothing out.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Here are some clips I compiled & put together. I like the hard screen by Zaza, the non-automatic slams/lay-ups blocked by KD when I was controlling Bron, & I like how Curry wrapped me up for the foul as I was barreling to the rim with Bron. Nice gameplay on All-Star, will try Superstar next. I recommend after your first game or two to never touch Pro again - you will destroy the CPU.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Only thing stopping me from deleting the demo is the Drew League/ Street Ball stuff. And that's not something I usually bother with. But everything but the product on the court is ok. The presentation is good although those guys over at ESPN get real annoying to listen to in real life so they're only bearable for so long in the game. The player movement is brutal. Feels like guys in weighted vests moving in water. So sluggish and stiff. Shooting doesn't feel fluid and I don't like the lack of control over your shot. In 2k every shot I take I control. Whether I want to Eurostep, Power Dunk, Flashy Dunk, reverse layup, fade away, spot up shoot, or take a normal layup. In the demo it's like they take over and pick your shot for you. Had them do a Eurostep when it wasn't needed which led to me getting blocked.
I have guys like Lebron that end up doing dumb look hook or flip layups when I'm using the buttons to dunk where he has a path to the hoop to do so. And there doesn't seem to be body contact to influence the actual shot. If you go up to block a shot you're either going to get dunked on or swat the ball into the 3rd row. Every block is overly exaggerated. After a few regular play now games I lost interest because the My Player mode was enough to keep me engaged while I was first trying it out. Short games to 21 kept things quick. Once I got into 5 minute Warriors vs Cavs games, the flaws just started to stick out more and more. I had Kyrie catch the ball close to the hoop, make the movement to dribble the ball, the ball didn't actually dribble, and then he took 2 steps and went up for a layup. As if the ball was glued to his hand.
I still feel it's better than what they've been attempting lately, but it's still miles behind 2k. I'll pick it up when it's on sale a few months down the road once I've gotten a little 2k fatigued, but it's just not what I was hoping for after the excitement I had looking at the previews.Last edited by mhayden614; 08-11-2017, 10:05 PM.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
I agree 100%. I wish they would have at least told us that in the beginning because I would've waited and just played online games w/ friends instead of randoms. I was for sure they'd let us keep playing by just not giving us anymore upgrades and etc.
Also wish they gave you a chance to make multiple characters.
For anyone that got drafted. Has everyone got drafted by the 76ers or do your performance really matter?

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Anyone else having issues trying to restart The One? I go to Appearance and Reset, but then it just sits at the screen showing my guy on the right side and hangs there without any buttons working or anything. Gave it about 5 minutes then quit out of the game and tried again with same result.
Anyone else have this? Does it just take a long time to delete and I'm not waiting long enough?Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Finally got to sit down and play this demo. Took 85 years to download for me. That's why I haven't said anything.
Now, I felt I was forced to play the One but you know what? It was so fun! I didn't scan myself or anything. I didn't care but it got addicting! Finished all chapters and I was #11 draft pick and I was drafted by my favorite team as a kid the Charlotte Hornets! I was livid! So excited lol. Like my dream has come true! It was weird playing with only me because I haven't done that in almost 17 years. I am used to playing with all the players.
At the end of the day, NBA Live is back! The game is really fun. I only played the One chapters but now I am going to play NBA Play Now. I was going to pre-order day 1 but playing this demo? Exceeded my expectations! I can't wait until September 15!!!Comment

I just went to the files in storage and deleted them and started over . Then quit the Drew League game and restarted.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Lots of positives in this demo. I hated having the play that "The One" **** for an hour just to be able to select the play now option. By the way I couldn't get the face scan app to work either.
I've only played a couple games so I'm definitely still learning but I'm enjoying it so far. I think player movement looks and responds great, something that I've had an issue with in the live franchise for as far back as I can remember.
3 point shooting is a little overkill, I probably just need to adjust some sliders, but 3's were dropping like crazy from both sides. Played against GS in the first game and they made every 3 point attempt that came off the step back animation. I think it was 7 threes in the first quarter.
Post play seems awkward, either that or I just haven't had enough time to master it. For how responsive player movement and the dribbling feels it's night and day difference compared to when I post up. I feel like I don't have much control over what the player is about to do. Almost every time I tried to fake in the post the player would just turn and square straight to the basket, which always put me in an awkward spot obviously with no dribble.
I like the quick play calling, the screen and roll command works great, playing defense works well also. I'm still learning all the dribble mechanics but it feels nice to not be sucked into lots of animations every time I just want to change my dribble direction. Still haven't mastered the little spin around jumper.
I think this is going to be a great platform for Live to build on. Definitely buying both games this year. First time for me since 2007 I believe, and even then I bought a used copy of live and never played it.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Left this off my last post but I love the game speed in this game. 2K has always been entirely too slow for me, and even though I love the 2k franchise it's always bothered me how slow the players are. For example, I think anyone who's ever played basketball has had to run a 10 second down and back sprint before. It's impossible to do that in 2K, with what is supposed to be professional level athletes.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions

NBA Play Now Impressions:
So, I switched the difficulty to All-Star. Much, much improved. I won 60-55 as the Cavs, the Warriors came back from 8 points and 9 points down thanks to Chef Curry (23 points, 5 triples). They led in the fourth 53-52, but LeBron nailed a massively huge triple that gave us the lead, then followed that up with an And-1 (sunk the free throw).
Curry, Durant, and Green all played like their real-life counterparts. Klay Thompson was a bit passive, but still got some decent mid-range looks in.
I shot 24-43 from the field, 5-12 from deep. Warriors were 23-50 from the field, 9-17 deep. Curry and Durant were the primary deep ball threats.
Game was tight all the way through, even when I was up by nearly double-digits; Steph Curry lit me up when I gave him an inch, but he cooled off in the fourth.
All-Star really is a marked improvement ... a few shots don't go my way and that's a clear LOSS for me. Really enjoyed the game.
Biggest issue I have is the free throw disparity, though. I shot 8 free throws, Golden State shot 0. Now, it's true the Warriors are deep-ball oriented team, but they still drove inside (Iggy, Livingston) and were blocked hard in there by LeBron and Tristan Thompson, but I feel the disparity is large enough to flag it.
For comparison, on Pro, the Warriors shot four free throws to my two, so it might be related to difficulty.
Also, saw this really weird animation while LBJ was going for a fastbreak. Looks like he was already prepping to receive the ball way before he even knew it was coming.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
It is a whole new experience when you play this game with all the visual indicators turned off. Still adjusting defensively. It takes me a second or two to know who I'm controlling but it makes the gameplay look "that" more realistic.
Finally played as the Warriors & the CPU Cavs put up a much better fight than the Warriors did when I played against them. For some reason the Warriors don't take many 3's. Could just be my experience. Cavs made plenty 3's against me.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Only been playing live run..as a center X1
Really starting to notice this when finishing whether it be layups, dunks, allys, rebounds and put back near the rim. It's like they finish way to close the basket and upright to where they should almost be dunking their head under the hoop to even finish like that. Something is off with rim physics and just being close to it. Animations are flying your character right up to the rim then it's a quick need to put ball in rather then finishing a little further away and just outstretching arms.
Offensive Rebounding is off when close as it looks like you grab it off the rim and sometimes can tell that you should have done a put back...there are way too many putbacks.
Ball bouncing off rim is off from 16 too. Sounds meh as well.
Anyone else seeing this?Last edited by Nemesis Enforcer; 08-11-2017, 09:42 PM.Comment
