I've played a few play now games and unfortunately it feels and animates so much like Live 16 to me. I love the courts and the colors seem to be spot on, but the animations and the fluidity seem off a bit still. With that said for a $40 change of pace it can be worth it, but some work is still needed in the polish department.

Yeah the transition into a layup/dunk especially are still pretty rough.

Also, saw this really weird animation while LBJ was going for a fastbreak. Looks like he was already prepping to receive the ball way before he even knew it was coming.

Saw the same type of thing with Kyrie for me where they dribble the ball but the ball never bounces off the ground.

Early impression:

Bugs and legacy animations aside, had a lot of fun in the exhibition game. Back and forth game that went into OT.

First time in years I felt like I was playing some resemblance of the old LIVE games. I'm happy that I can finally see the direction they're trying to go in.

The more I play, the more fun I'm having. Commentary has taken a pretty big step forward. When a big play happens, they react accordingly, and along with the crowd, it's just a major treat.

Some of the animations just look phenomenal, specifically the step backs and turn around jumpers.

Sadly I won't be able to play more until next weekend, but if my enjoyment level keeps going up, I very well may pre order.

Finished my first full 5-minute game with GSW. The first game I played froze when I tried to watch an instant replay. Look at this cheese! Same problem with Live 16 was the OP paint scoring but lol I had 3 guys on my team with the fire icon and 3 guys on the Cavs had them too. Incredible game but seriously.

This is the main problem I had in NBA Live 16 is the AI makes too many shots. I played on All Star. This game went to OT, by the way. I can't imagine the score if this was 12-minute quarters lol.

First 2 quarters weren't bad. I was blowing the Cavs out but the game was a back and forth shootout after the half. I really have to sit back and take a break because I don't know if I want to play again. The game that froze was a 66-63 game GSW (me). I hit a clutch 3 with Curry and then I wanted to see a replay because the play was so sweet. Only 6.6 seconds were left.

What do you guys think? I know I am known for posting photos of inflated scoring numbers but this has even shocked me.

In short, love the defense but hate the offense.

The shooting is bizarre and seems like way too many shots go on. I do like the play calling system but I'm not a fan of holding the pick and roll. May just need to get use to it.

I do like the frequency that crap passes get picked off. I found the ball movement realistic but the shooting is just so weird.

I’ve been playing on all star as well and have had mostly balanced games as far as percentages go. I’ve had a game where I shot 70% from the field with the cavs, and a game where I held the cavs to sub 40%. I haven’t had those super high scores though, been blowing out the cpu so I’m gonna have to up the difficulty to superstar

Yea, try out all star or even superstar and let me know your experience.

I did. All-star. The Cavs beat me by 3 points. I remember in 16 the CPU would absolutely destroy on Superstar.

All Star is probably the best mode for balanced competition.

The game just feels like basketball . So far

+ Triple Threat / Dribble Moves
+ Manual perimeter defense ( Hands down , man down )
+ Graphics /Colors are clean upscaled to 4k.
+ Blocks
+ Steals in Lane
+ Badge / Upgrade System
+ Fun Factor

- Interior defense is lacking if shot isn't blocked
- Some player faces look off

I think this is true. I'm not very nit picky about the things I think most gamers in forums complain about, like uniforms or gear. I'm more concerned about things like driving to the basket and seeing the help defense collapse on me so I can kick out to the corner. I don't want it to work all the time but I was able to do this a couple times in the three games I've played of Live 18 and I love that "realism."

As for what I like about Live. Hard for me to say. I definitely get that 2K can look better in a lot of ways. I completely get that Live has had some bad animations. I complained about those in the past. I think 18 did a nice job cleaning many up (from what I've seen), but there are still some things that look ugly to me like the players dribble arm while moving. Can look lifeless to me. Or the facial expressions / placement of the head during the dunk. Certain dunk packages lack emotion or energy because of this.

But, Live just feels better to me. I think part of that is the whole animation vs. free movement argument. Part of it is the colors, lighting, broadcast (visual and audio).

I definitely love the movement, especially the ease of walking up the ball. In 2k trying to walk up the ball is hit or miss at times. The only knock to live is lack post play physicality and lack of post offense.

After playing more, I still really like it. And it's a big step up from 16. Defensively alone, it blows away 16.

It's not gonna topple 2K. But it's back in the race imo.

And for $40, it's a steal.

It doesn't have to topple it for me. I'm just thankful to have two sports titles in the same genre. It's been so long [emoji4]
