Never mind. You have to chain it from a pull back dribble into a shot.

Still. That's all kinds of crazy you can do that same pullback dribble pullup (with Kyrie, JR Smith, and Klay Thompson) with the right hand and holding the right stick and turbo down, but you have do it it manually for the left?

On another note. This game will randomly make you dribble the ball for no reason. This is especially prevalent in the post because if you post up, but then want to face up, if you let go of the Left Trigger you'll just start dribbling for no reason ruining your post position and starting a live dribble from either 15+ out or you start dribbling in the paint around active hands leading to an easy strip.

I've seen my player randomly start dribbling on the perimeter too when I simply let go of the everything on my controller so that he WOULDN'T dribble.

If I catch the ball, that means I want to stay still to utilize the triple threat.

      What I like MOST

      1. Pace of play

I feel like this game mirrors NBA pace of play so well and even on 5 minute quarters in this demo I feel like I can control a games pace.

      2. The Crowd/Atmosphere

Do i need to say more?

      3. The lighting/graphics

The textures are more life like and even though the faces re probably a 6/10 the overall graphics are very well done

      4. The movement/control/foot planting

Momentum matters more often than not. More often than not if something foul happens it was because I didn't do the correct button input. More often than not I can create realistic space. More often than not every time i do a specific button input i get that move. (actually this is every time). I don't feel like I'm controlling a dude who's going to take off in a direction because of some crazy animation...it's simply running and dribbling it doesn't need to be complicated and they got it RIGHT.

A step feels like a step and not like i glide for a second before i take a step which makes the one step like 3 steps. They really got this part right...so much so you don't need to HOLD turbo to explode by someone rather than use it as a first step explosive kind of move. There is nothing that artificially shoots you forward...you just move. Feels SOOOO much like Fifa I love it.

      5. The A.I

is much improved the rotations are crazy especially when they start double teaming they really defend that well you really need to swing the ball.

Yea the block shots are a bit OP and the jumpers are slow and floaty but this is a DEMO. Hopefully those things can be ironed out. I'd also like to be able to set defensive matchups on the fly.

I actually can't wait to see what other gameplay improvements they add in the full version.

Kyrie TORE ME UP in a 5 minute qtr game (Superstar) dude scored 32 points with a mixture of drives and threes. I would love to see more Lebron setting up offense but I'm super nit picking...if they can deliver this level of immersion and team style play they have a winner.

Game play is really that good I'm really having a ton of fun with it.

      6. The One

I LOVE the way EA handled the archetypes and leveling up. No dumb tedious grind to get points just play the game, play based on your archetype and get rewarded. Simple.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions

I love how the cpu and the human player can take advantage of mismatches. I've had KD put me on skates when I tried to guard him with Love. The cpu seeks out Korver every time I put him on the floor. You have to be cognizant of match ups or you'll get exploited. Nice chess game. Also, It's fabulous to see Zsa Zsa get switched out on Kyrie or LeBron and I'm able to get a step on him immediately and blow by him without doing a myriad of dribble moves.

Couple of negatives: I've seen Zsa Zsa pushing the ball and driving the lane doing cross overs. It seems when the cpu gets a turnover or fast break opportunity reality goes out of the window. I've been able to rip him a couple of times but his speed, agility, and ball handling is a little outrageous.

Also, maybe it's just me or a timing thing but it seems as if the right stick contest can be unresponsive or very late to respond at times.

Lastly, how do you box out?

Unfortunately it's all contextual, not manual. I've seen a few, but don't recall the context in which it happened.

              Hrmm.

Post stepbacks and Post fadeaways work off a combination of Mid Range, Shot off Dribble, Contested Shot, and Post Moves attributes.

The ability to perfect release a shot comes in at a 74-76 rating (this comes from experimenting around in Shoot around). Without the ability to green, all your post fades and stepbacks will be a tossup, so the most important attribute is your mid range.

Then, followed by your post move attribute. A 63 post move is enough to green a post stepback, givin that you are wide open and aren't being contested in the slightest. But your shooting attributes must be 80+. Otherwise a post move of 76 is needed.

A contested shot of 74-76 will guarantee you that any late contest won't affect your ability to perfect release it.

A Shot off Dribble of 72 will ensure that your range can extend all the way from 15-21/22 feet, or to about a foot in front of the 3 point line.

This is all gleaned from my experimenting in practice.

Go to the Cavaliers, shoot with Kevin Love (you'll find that you can green post stepback 3 pointers), then shoot with Kyrie, then shoot with JR Smith, then shoot with Jeff Green, then shoot with Channing Frye.

I've been doing that and on free throws the players just stand there. I'll check it out again. Thanks.

Seriously, if you haven't been using free style passing try it out....if you've been getting your baseline passes picked off, which the CPU is adept at on SS...this makes a much tighter pass and frees up space.

Only issue I am having is transitioning to finishing with RS after a pass...its a bit tough to get back to square for quick finish. Finishing with RS in stride feels delayed at times and seems to put up softer finishes.

Steals are way better in 18. I had to have a house rule in 16 or I could virtually steal at will. I like that you have to really think about your timing or it's going to be a foul.

People are saying blocks are overdone and while I do agree I'm enjoying the strategy of choosing shots like early floater layups to get over the trees or giving an extra pass and really only going when I have a clear lane. I truly feel that's how it should be. It kinda is a different take on making it so you can't just drive to the hoop every time. 2k does it by bumping where as live balances it by letting you beat your man but blocking your shot if you aren't in the clear. Could be toned down a bit but I hope they don't nerf it totally or it could be arcade dunk fest.

Having sufficient foul numbers and players being in foul trouble won't be a problem like it has been in the past with live. At 100 there are plenty of fouls with lots of shooting fouls. Downside is ive had an obnoxious amounts of and 1s.
I had 10 in my last game.

Inside game needs to be nerfed a bit. Too many shots fall inside.

Players stand around way too much which wasn't a problem in 16 at all. I hope that's fixed in the retail version.

I wish players had a little more urgency getting to loose balls but I do like how things transpire pretty organically. Things seem fairly unscripted.

Hot and cold streaks in terms of runs are really well done as they were in 16. Feels great when you get hot and I enjoy the strategy of slowing it down and running plays to get out of a cold run.

The intro where the players are being announced with the cheesy music sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the unbelievable presentation. Hoping that's just a demo thing.

Love playing defense. Never ever have I felt good about playing D in a basketball video game.

You're right - it's just a demo thing. You'll hear licensed music for the intros in the full game.

That's because right stick in a forward motion after releasing turbo is a floater.

More immersion and allowing you to see where you are in relation to court and see those sweet bank shots and glass play and position for rebounds better etc...

It may not be possible in the engine but it's not far from what the player lock camera does which I noticed can swing out to show inside or baseline shots a little better as it gets closer to the baseline, just closer to action and following the ball instead of one player .

Are you making sure to finish Up Left or Up Right (away from the defender) on the RS?

I've found that when I try to finish away from the defender (oftentimes riding my hip) I get a faster animation.
