    Initial impression..

Just fired up the game for the first time, and the intro video is Joel making all his in league rivals look foolish.

Every center he’s had twitter beef with us getting worked. I’m dead .

I’ll edit this post with more impressions once I play, but this made me LOL pretty hard.

Re: NBA Live 19 Demo Available Now For Both Xbox One & PS4 - Post Your Impressions He

I was able to get 4 more Play Now games in between last night and this morning. While I liked it more this time around than I did in my initial game, I'm still kind of up in the air on it. Some impressions:

        PROS

        - Much like last year, I just like the "feel" of this game better than 2K. And by feel I mean the look of the players, the court, the atmosphere, and the colors/lighting. I really enjoy the ESPN presentation, too. It's very easy to get immersed in the game.

        - The CPU mid range game is back this year and it's really great to see. I spent time playing as both teams, and man, Kyrie and KD are REALLY hard to defend because of this. You think they are going to the basket, and then...BAM! A little step back mid range jumper. Awesome.

        - Pull up and catch and shoot jumpers feel incredibly smooth. The momentum and fluidity are captured perfectly. Shooting jump shots in Live is just plain fun.

        - I absolutely love the user controlled celebrations. It adds a nice layer of realism and is a nice jumping off point for Live to hopefully start focusing more on the "little things."

        - Dribbling is so smooth. I feel like I have control of my player, and am able to chain moves together without spamming.

        CONS

        - CPU defense is the biggest issue I have in this game, and it's one that will probably keep me from purchasing. First off, literally every player is face guarded from virtually 40 feet out - that includes guys like Al Horford and Aron Baynes. And on top of that, it's extremely rare that the CPU will come off of their defender to help, which means the drive and kick game is virtually non-existent. Open jump shots are virtually non-existent. Now I have seen occasions where I'm able to get an open jumper, but it's few and far between. And even when I do, the speed at which the defenders close out still make it a much more contested shot than it should be.

        - There's just an overall lack of signature feel, from overall team style of play to the traits/attributes/animations of individual players. When I played as or against Durant, man, it was just outstanding. But when using guys like Tatum or Hayward, I couldn't really feel a difference. As much as I get immersed in the atmosphere, this type of stuff just kills the experience for me.

Make no mistake about it, Live is trending in the right direction. I'm seeing a lot of things that I like. But as someone that only cares about the NBA side of things, there are still some significant improvements that need to be made on the gameplay side of things. The number of pros actually outweigh the number of cons for me. But, the cons are just game killers for me.

If the retail version plays better, I'll probably still consider a purchase once the price dips. But I feel like Live has 2020 written all over it if the developers decide to put most of their resources back into the NBA side of things.

This is a super little thing but I’m going to mention it.

I love how the players have awareness of the padded stanchion that holds up the backboard and rim. Every video game in history has players clipping through that as far as I can remember. I’ve seen a bunch of animations. One I saw the player turn his back to it and lean in then push off with his hand. It was super cool.

Oh and I’m talking in actual gameplay not when you choose the “environment” celebration on an and 1. Those are a little rough actually just because it warps you to that spot and can look odd.

I ran a game last night, I was Boston against the warriors. I was up by 1 with 26.4 seconds left. Instead if playing D, they started fouling and sending me to the free throw line. To make matters worse, they had a chance to tie the game after I missed a free throw, rather than call a timeout, they chucked a full court shot up and lost.

The lack of signatures for players and overpowered on-ball CPU defense are big flaws in this game.

Also, I made a 6'8 220 lb. SF for The One why is he so pudgy he literally has a LiAngelo Ball type build when I was trying to make a prime Tracy McGrady smh.

A lot of good things in this game but it's still not as good or better than 2K from an exhibition gameplay perspective the CPU IQ is lacking as well, and they need to chill with these 360 lay-up animations. If Live 20 can get the gameplay and authentic NBA signatures from the players to coaching down I'd make the switch.

One mode is kinda cool to me with all the little videos in between gameplay. Presentation is very good imo.

Gameplay is solid and animations have improved from 18 but still look somewhat robotic and detached. If you want minimal sliding which this game has that aesthetic is the trade off I guess. Contact animations at the rim are top notch though as they really look great. It felt like something of a graphical drop off going from the one gyms and parks to the actual NBA stadiums imo. Looked kinda dull and a little washed out. I've only played in Boston so far. Post game felt a little dated but I completely dominated with cousins. Feels like another step forward for the series.

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

The timeout thing is disappointing. There tends to be something like that every year.

With 26.4 seconds left was it a full 24 second shot clock? If so, I would argue that you SHOULD foul otherwise there would be very little time left for the CPU to get a shot off...

I was actually going to comment the same. The scenario pointed out sounds like a huge step up from the logic of live games in the past lol

The reason I say it was bad, the warriors should've played for a steal for at least 10 seconds, if nothing happened foul. Then call a timeout and you have 15 seconds left to get a quality shot.

Anyway, this is one of the things I feared. Look at how effortless she dunks, and it even looks unrealistic. Even Brittney Griner who is I'm guessing is 6'8, barely grazes the rim when she dunks. And when she dunked, it made espn just on how rare it is. This would be fine if it were nba street or something, but for what's supposed to be a sim game, I expect more.

If this is as crazy as the The One trailer from a while back indicated, it's going to be something else that the live franchise is mocked for, even though adding female players is a great addition to the game.

Welp, they need to fix that cause it almost made me cut the game off.I can understand the one mode her dunking but play now where it's supposed to be sim she should just lay it up.When the full game rolls around hopefully they tone it down and rocket layups cause both almost made me quit the game [emoji23].
                          Rocket layups example.(same game)

Besides those two things I actually enjoyed the flow of the wnba game better than NBA.They seemed to push the ball faster than the NBA part.

In addition, it might be bad audio mixing.

like I said this cant be the final build with the commentary.
I gave the game an 8.5 overall but I agree with the lot of you , I also said the commentary sounds like a game from the late 1990s. It's horrible. I do take comfort they will update it. I'm sure EA isn't deaf either and has to realize how bad it is in the demo. if I was a producer I would have left it out in the demo and I believe they did in past basketball games especially for demos
