We do have to consider that there is 364 Division 1 teams in CBB, while there was just 136(134 at the time) College Football teams. That's a ton of arenas they have to scan
That's true CFB already had Madden, whereas EA Sports College Basketball has nothing.

I doubt they'd use anyrhing from Live since last one was from 2018 and on the Infinity Engine. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if NBA Live comes back alongside it

That is a lot of arenas, but they're also considerably smaller than football stadiums.

at least they're looking at just 370 arenas, since most Men & Women's teams play in the same one.

Depending on the success, I would think it's a possibility.

Based on a rough count using Wikipedia, there's roughly 20 schools where the women play in a different arena.

Then 10 or so arenas where teams play for big games (like Villanova at the Wells Fargo Center, Kansas and K-State using the T-Mobile Center). Then any outliers that are used for conference tournaments, etc.

I'd say arenas alone we'd be looking at around 400-ish.

If this is accurate, that suggests that 2K will not be making a college hoops game. Which makes sense (unfortunately), because there really isn't room in the market for 2 college basketball games. Bummer because I really liked 2K's college hoops game, and also because they could get one out in 1-2 years since their whole game is already built.

I never particularly liked EA's basketball games, but I suppose having a college basketball game is better than not having one.

I could see that being the case. Going through the CLC is the easiest method to go through getting license for all the teams and conferences. Don't know if there's another viable option for getting the team licenses outside of either dealing directly with the NCAA or individual teams.

Meh. Was hoping 2k would get it if anyone would. Given what the CFB team has done though it could be good. Would definitely need options to customize the dynasty experience though. I have no interest in playing a sim of college basketball in its current state, IE going all out to recruit a stud who goes pro after one year.

With arenas, they're likely not going to be scanning each one. Based on camera angles/lighting we wouldn't see most of the arenas anyway, like we would for a college football game. I'm fairly confident they'll do what 2k did and have probably 120-150 distinct arenas, with some models copied over to similar models. There's a post on these boards from College Hoops 2k8 that details which "model" was used for which schools. I remember Cincinnati and Rutgers having the same arena model.
To build out the arena "roster" they'll hopefully get some NCAA tournament/final four sites and hopefully some NBA arenas.

Man maybe EA can surprise me and make a great game but I thought the last College basketball game they made was awful, and while I didn't give the last few live's that big a shot, the little I played I wasn't impressed either. When i saw the news earlier my first thought was that's cool, but maybe it means 2K will make one too, so if its true that this rules that out Im kinda bummed.

Yeah, I'm mostly surprised EA is giving it another go again, after they quit on March Madness, four years before they were forced out of their college football game.
Then throw on top their inability to have any amount of success with Live in the last ten years. A ten year period they didn't also have to focus on college football, or college basketball.
They couldn't turn a profit with March Madness, but now they expect they will, having to pay players now when didn't before? Already an added expense they didn't have previously.
Maybe EA counting on the game selling better with players already named. I still think think the best thing that could have happened was if EA and 2K could have joined forces.
I guess all they really need is for the first game to sell like CFB25 did, Then that would offset any subsequent dropoff in like the amount of units March Madness 10 moved.
Bottom line is, I'm in day one. I'm not the one investing millions of dollars. All I really need is that one time purchase. Maybe buy a PS5 version and hope it hangs around long enough to see a PS6 version too.
