Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

The sad thing is the game before that only put up 13 in the first half. That's 20 points combined in my last two first halves. Granted these teams are all 12+ overall better than me, but I've never been beaten so badly consecutively before in any sports game.

I like it though. I'm not a good team at all and it shows. I did lead Florida at halftime at their place, but that still ended up being a double digit loss. I've had one loss at 7, the other 8 have been by 15+. Thankfully I've got a local SF with B shooting committed already. He shot 60% in summer ball and something like 24 of 32 from 3. I hope that translates into success for me too. I desperately need offense.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Just wrapped up non-conference play. 0-11 ain't too bad, right? Actually gave Baylor a tough game last game. Was leading almost all game, but their depth took over with about 8 minutes left and I lost 56-70. My SG had 30 points, went 11-23 shooting, 8-13 from 3. No one else on my team had over 6 points. He leads the conference and is near the top 5 in the nation at 20.2 points a game, I have no one else averaging over 5 or 6 on my team.

Hopefully conference play goes a little better. Most of the teams look just as bad as me so I might be able to finish in the top 4 and maybe get a lucky conference tournament run and at least make the semi's in it. I would be alright with that with this team. I really am just hoping I don't lose my job in year 1 of this career legacy. That'd be something.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I don't understand how I gave Baylor a tough game, or scored 80 earlier in the year. I'm now at 0-14. Conference play has been no different for my team. We're averaging 48.8 points a game ad 33.9% shooting. I was up 21-11 on Howard and then lost 43-76. Lewis, my SG, still is averaging around 20 a game, no one else is above 5. My big men have no shooting skills nor any post offense. No one on this team outside of Lewis even has any shooting skills above 70. I'm just at a loss. I've never had a season like this in a video game before.

I've also never played with a team rated this poorly on offense before. I always took good offensive teams before in career legacy. Hopefully I don't get fired and can get my recruits because they will instantly start. There is no way they can be worse than any returning player.

I mean, just last game I was down 0-12 6 minutes in and was 0-8 shooting and only 2 of my shots had even hit the rim. What am I supposed to do? My C got a pass down low and got the defender to bite on the pump, missed the uncontested shot, then got the rebound, got another bite on a fake and rim stuffed himself. It's just pitiful how bad this team is. I regret picking this team.

Has anyone ever really went after 1 star recruits? I know the 2 star recruits that are ranked like 700 or in there, some of them can come in and be nice overall players in the mid 60's. Does anyone know what the higher end overall of 1 star recruits is?

I am starting a new closed dynasty where the coach has to earn the ability to recruit higher ranked recruits, and I want to start in year 1 with only 1 star players and go from there, knowing I will get some overall in the 40's. Just wondering if anyone has seen 1 star recruits come in the higher 50's or even 60?

I've had some 1* recruits come in as high 50's. The highest I've seen was a 1* JUCO freshman that came in as a 62 OVR

If I were you I'd go after High 1* and Lower 2* . That still keeps it somewhat like you want it and you'll have more variety in what you can bring in.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Finished my season at 7-22 and then exited the first round of the conference tournament. I'm glad the season is over. That team was terrible. Unfortunately my assistant coach is apparently a terrible scout and those recruits he had at B's in a lot of categories came in at 47 and 48. My C did come in as a 52(still bad, I know).

I did only lose one player to graduation, and return my my top 4 players, all starters. Let's just say those two horrible recruits came in and violated a lot of team rules and are no longer with the team. The C is redshirting. A walk-on actually joined the team as a better C which I just shake my head at.

I'm pretty much going to try and play as slow a brand of basketball as you can in order to preserve the energy of my only decent players that start and to shorten games and hopefully pull out one or two I shouldn't. I just let the game make the schedule for me this 2nd year and it had fun. I'm on the road all non-conference this year with a big game at Duke.

I was a 69 last year and am a 70 this year. That's some real progress. I put more points into teaching so hopefully my team keeps progressing more and more. I desperately need offense again, but it's too late to bring anyone else in. I'm leaving some scholarships open each year hoping for a decent transfer. I didn't have an open one for this year, so zero transfers, but maybe this year one will come in and have an immediate impact. I'm just hoping I get double digit wins. That hopefully keeps me employed here. My bar was pretty empty last season, but I stayed, maybe 10 wins will bump it up a tiny bit.

I plan to stay at this school for awhile like I did my 7 years at Chattanooga one legacy with a buddy, but I'm definitely struggling a lot more here. In my other legacies like the Chattanooga one I tended to go around 12-16 that first year, around .500 the next, my recruits help me place in the top 3 or 4 the 3rd year, and by year 4 I become a conference competitor. In year 7 at Chattanooga I did go undefeated(my team was a 78 overall in that conference, so I wasn't tested too much and I had an easy non-conference schedule) in the regular season only to lose to Citadel in the conference championship which made me fall to around a 9 or 10 seed. I exited in the 2nd round which was my deepest run.

These sliders definitely provide a challenge and keep the legacy realistic even this many years later when I probably can't get any better at the game. This game is just too much fun. It nails down the balance of the sport perfectly, ratings matter the perfect amount, and the atmosphere is still 2nd to none. It's almost 10 years later and I don't want to stop playing this game.

Update: Just started off the year on a great note. Lost 41-72 to Temple. My team shot a whopping 13-42. I'm still at a loss with what to do with this team. They shot 4 of 20 from the paint. Every time I give it to my bigs they either get it stripped or go up weak and don't even get the ball over the rim. Outside of Lewis no one on my team has any jumpshooting ability. It's literally low 60's or high 50's, so I can't shoot there. They all have decent layup ability, but I can't get into the paint because there is no speed or quickness on this team and the other teams are always sagging off and flooding the paint with help if I enter inside the arc.

Part of me does just want to make the game change it's ways and fire me right now. I think I might actually hate this team. They're pitiful. It is irritating playing with them. I can't stand shooting below 45% on a regular basis.... heck, my team shot 35% all of last season. I can't handle that. At least in my other legacies my team had just as good offenses as the teams as bad as me. This team doesn't. The only offense on the same level as me is the one on the 59 overall Winston-Salem team.

I have a backdoor cut I run sometimes and even when I do get the SF open underneath, he can't hit the layup even 40% of the time. It's infuriating. My three bigmen have 63 post offense at best and the other two have a 56 and 57 in that category. What am I supposed to do with zero post threat, no jump shooting ability, and below average driving ability? I've exhausted all options. It's just the players at this point. This roster is complete trash.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

After a break to finish a Super Bowl run, I've gotten back into this game. MY plan to take on northeast powers didn't go as well as I'd hoped, especially since I played everyone on the road, and I finished non-conference play 6-8 with Northeastern. I lost 2 heartbreakers which put a damper on the slate, but it wasn't an awful start. I did way too much research on the America East in the game and figured I'd be in the running for a top 4 spot in the league. Lost the opener pretty big on the road to Stony Brook, who will contend, and then beat a bad UNH team by sim. Then I hosted Vermont, which has the best PG and best shot blocker in the league (I LOVE the conference information page) and was down 12 with five minutes left. I stormed back, hitting a jumper at the buzzer to win the game. I'm 2-1 now in a tight race and invigorated again.
A couple questions: Is there a way I can check how the game does my conference tournament?
Also, I keep accidentally turning on heat check and coach settings, usually at terrible times like scrums for rebounds. Is there a way to prevent this? I don't even know what buttons they are.

                    Hello

Not sure if you will have much success going after 1* recruits exclusively, you will be able to sign them in season more than likely since they are not really that well gone after by many school. I would recommenced hiring Assistant Coaches with very high scouting grades, and allow them to scout the players during the recruiting process. It may help you find those diamond in the rough players. I have played many career legacies and have never recruited any 1* players. If that is what you are into then it sounds like an interesting idea that may be really challenging and really fun too. Its all about the talent evaluation though. Remember if you don't show signs of improving after 3 years you will more than likely get fired. That isn't always wins either, it is wins coupled with getting better players and sending your program on an upward tick.

Don't go after any 1* players. I've never seen a 1* ever pan out to be worth anything even if he is like 7'3. Honestly you shouldn't go after any 2* that is unranked. They seem to be along the same skill level as the 1* players. However, you can find some solid 2* talent that is ranked. Some ranked 2* players are better than a few 3* players. It's like what etccgolfer said, scouting is key to finding solid players.

I actually played Cinci real close and had two potential winning shots miss in the final seconds. Then my team went back to normal and got destroyed by St John's. I think I only scored 35. Shot 29%.

I know you might think my sliders are just ridiculous or I am just rusty/bad at the game, but when I sim these games, they are the exact same results. Blowouts and my team shooting 33% or worse. I simmed to 2nd half of the St John's game and I was at 30%, they actually brought it down to 29% in the sim. This team is just trash.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

With the 1 star recruits, I'm just trying to make a challenging reward system for my coach.

For all my legacy's I just recruit 3 stars that come in and play right away and then deal with position loads of young players and it's easy to win with those and move up in the rankings. Realistically this just isn't on par with how it is, my alumni is a small major team that has alot of success and been to the tournament 3 times in the last 8 years, and they would never get freshman to come in and be better right away, they might get 1 or 2 that come in and have a role but that's it.

Since I can't temper my recruiting, I have just devised a system of rewards for the coach to be able to recruit better.

                          Recruiting Rules
                          Small Conference rule
                          unlimited base for 1 stars
                          earned 2stars

                          Mid-Major Conference rule
                          1 - 2star
                          unlimited base for 1 stars

                          Major Conference rule
                          1 - 3star
                          unlimited base for 1 stars

                          Power Conference rule
                          1 - 4star
                          unlimited base for 1 stars

Rewards + system that either follows the coach throughout their year, or their school, or the following year.
                          Permanent
BlueBloods are open ended and rules are voided
NattyChamp's are +1 to every rule
NCAA COY +1 to every rule
NCAA POY +1 to every rule
NCAA 1st team AA +1 to every rule

                          School permanent
Conference Championships are +1 to every rule
FF's are +1 to every rule
Conference POY are +1 to every rule
NCAA 2nd team AA are +1 to every rule
NCAA freshman AA are +1 to every rule

                          School following season
Conference Tournament Championships +1 to every rule
Conference player AA's are +1 for every AA to every rule

So in a couple years my coach can build up pretty quickly on what kind of players they can recruit and then it changes when they change jobs because they are building up again, so not only am I recruiting against the school's negatives but I have a base I have to follow too.

I think I will like how this works other than having to recruit 5 1 stars my first year. I recruited 3 juco's who are nothing more than minute fillers, and I have 2 guys redshirting who are low 50's.

For my year 2 I had 2 guys on the conference AA, so I will get at least 2 2stars the following year who might be able to come in and have limited roles.

It has really focused me to change my coaching tendancy strategy and make scouting more important. My #1 priority. I have my team base I want for athleticism and defense, and then I ahve a player I look who can be a rebounding stud, and I look for a guy who can be a scoring stud for me.

Hazey, your post kinda of reminds me of some of the systems/house rules I've seen on the NCAA forums. Does anyone do suspensions, etc for themseleves? We don't have an editor YET so we'd be limited, but it would be interesting to see if guys here do things similar.

Thanks to this thread, I purchased CH2K8 on Ebay and it arrived yesterday. I'm kind of overwhelmed with all of the options on the legacy menu. I randomly selected the MAAC and started my first closed legacy as the lowest rated MAAC team, the Canisius Golden Griffins.

Slider set suggestions for someone that's never played the game before?
