Glad to still see some activity in here. If anyone is still playing Closed Legacy Mode, how is your career going so far?

Got knocked out in the Elite 8 last season with LIU. This years team is much weaker than last (lost my best recruit of all time 87ovr sf) But we just made the tourney and Ill probably play it this weekend.

My recruit class this year is the best ive had on paper. I have a 5* PF and mr basketball of NY coming in and a 4* PG and mr basketball of NH, who looks to be lights out from the 3pt line.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

My first season at San Francisco is in the books. Finished the year 16-14, not too bad after they went 3-27 the year before. My OOC schedule was pretty uneventful for the most part. I started conference play 4-1 and was feeling pretty good about how we were playing even though my guys were bad. My one loss at that point was embarrassing though. I was @ Portland, and was trailing 10-8 about halfway through the first half (20 minute halves), I had a fast break with a layup to tie to the game and missed it. I didn't score for the rest of the half and went down 32-8 at halftime. Portland then scored 8 points to open the 2nd half to put me down 40-8 before I scored again. I don't think I ever got it below 20 the rest of the way. The rest of the season had its ups and downs that mostly followed the theme of us just not having enough talent. We finished 5th in the conference at 8-6 and beat St. Marys in the first round of the conference tourney before losing to Santa Clara.

Like I mentioned earlier, I had a bunch of scholarships to give out and had offered them to all 4* or 5* guys. I gave up on the 5* when Arizona offered him, but I managed to get all of the 4* I wanted. I had two guys transfer out which allowed me to offer one more 4* and a 3% who had me at 100% pretty much the whole year. I finished the class out with a 4*PG, 4*SG, 4*SF,4*PF,4*C, and a 3*SG. Somehow I still finished behind schools who only signed one 3* and one 4* in the recruiting rankings so I'm kind of confused as to how that's calculated, but whatever.

In year two, all of my starters are returning and even though my incoming freshman are better than starters at 3 positions, I'm not going to start them because they're all seniors and one of my rules in this legacy is to not replace upperclassmen who have been starters for more than one season. I do want to make sure these guys get plenty of playing time in preparation for next year, so most of the freshman are getting 10-14 minutes a night and the starters are only getting around 22 or 23. I am also planning on going 12 deep this year after only being able to play 8 last season, so it'll be good to have everyone fresh and constantly rotating.

I've only played one game so far and we didn't shoot well, but our defense was great and we beat Idaho to open the season. It really is nice having guards who can come off the bench and actually play. Once a couple of the freshman have had a chance to develop even for one year, I think these guys will be pretty good. 5 of them are rated between 75-77 and the 3* is a 70.

In terms of recruiting, I have 5 scholarships this year and again I'm looking at mostly 4* and 5* guys, with one 3* PG who is a great shooter. I have made offers to two 5*s but I think they'll probably go elsewhere (one of them has Pepperdine as his top choice with an offer and the other has UCLA way out in front). a 4* PG, the 3* PG, and a 4* SF who is a better shooter than the SF I just brought in. My #1 target though is a 5* Jr SF who I've been watching since his Fr year. He has me #5 right now, but I'm hoping a good couple of seasons from us are enough to reel him in. I've played with him in the ABL and he's incredible. His #1 priority is playing time so hopefully the SF I just signed doesn't deter him too much, and if not getting the SF I just offered helps me with him, I'll take that deal any day of the week.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Got the itch to play a college bball game again and of course, this game is the only viable option at this point. I had downloaded a roster for X360 in the past but unfortunately there was not one for that platform for this past year's roster. I was surprised at just how long ago it was that I played, the 12-13 season. Went through and saw some nostalgic names. I dreaded it but I went about doing a little bit of work on some of the rosters. I did a couple of important teams and then absolutely couldn't take it anymore so I went ahead and started a closed legacy as Florida. Haven't actually played any games yet but I'm planning on starting it up once I re-learn how to play. I tried a quick play game as UF against Arkansas PB and lost by about 12...pathetic. I'm gonna try as Villanova (I buffed their roster something fierce) against a bad team and see how I do, lol

It took me four years to bring home a championship at Hawaii. I brought in two 5* juco players in two years. They contributed greatly in our title run. I'm entering my fifth season and brought in the #3 recruiting class in the nation with three 5* players (sg/pf/c). We've started off hot in our fifth season going 8-0, and winning 2k classic and Hawaiian Invitational.

            Hawaii
            07-08: 27-6 Second Round
            08-09: 26-7 Sweet Sixteen
            09-10: 29-4 Second Round
            10-11: 39-2 National Champions
            11-12: 8-0

Sounds like everybody has had some success building up their teams.

I’ve been experimenting with different sliders and trying different strategies for developing the teams I put together.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I’ve been playing this game every year of its existence and I can’t stop. I’m attracted to the team building aspect of the game and the deep recruiting. Just started another career legacy with Dartmouth.

Very hard to recruit locally for Dartmouth as there are about 3 prospects in the state every year.

Was able to grab a 3 star speedy pg from Poland who surprisingly has good dunk ability despite being 5’11. He came in at a 66 and will most likely start every game of his career. What was interesting is that his ratings are pretty good besides his awful offensive and defensive awareness. I wonder if this is a trend for World players who have limited basketball experience playing overseas.

My biggest pull so far in three years at Dartmouth has been a 3 Star guy ranked like 120 who came in at 75 ovr. He ended up being 1st team all conference and freshman of the year. We made the tournament as a 14 seed but got trounced by Wake Forest. Now entering my 4th season. We are favorites in the Ivy League, starting lineup is young and talented but the bench is short.

I play most games and simulate many of the games against weaker competition or if my team is going through a rebuilding year that I cut players from my team to clear scholarship room. I have played 18 seasons thus far so basically half way through a closed legacy, yearly breakdown is below:

                      07-08 Morehead State 4-22
                      09-09 Morehead State 13-16
09-10 Morehead State 25-5 NCAA First Round
                      10-11 Morehead State 21-10 NIT

Started with a rough Morehead State team (I am from Kentucky) and basically cut the whole roster year one clearing a bunch of scholarships for a rebuild. I do this as much as I possibly can so I can start each team I leave for. I had two tough years and finally turned the corner in year 3 with a solid team that made it to the tourney. Year 4 was actually a disappointment to me, I had bad chemistry and never really could find a lineup that worked. Strange since I had the same players as the year prior. I then decided to move on for year 5 of my legacy and was it a great decision...

                      11-12 Marist 19-14
                      12-13 Marist 39-0 National Champions
                      13-14 Marist 37-0 National Champions

Okay so before everyone thinks I cheated, I promise this was legit. I had 9 scholarships in year 1 with Marist and signed a top 3 class. I think because they are in New York recruits gravitate to them. Plus my coach had A+ charisma by this point as well so that had to help. I had a heck of a team of freshmen, they couldn't be touched by anyone in conference. I also scheduled very soft just in case my team needed some time to gel. I had a couple of close games in the tournament, but never really had a fear that I would lose. I think I could have stayed 2 more years with this team and won two more championships. The players were that good, so good in fact they won the tournament in 2015-16 with a 35-2 record as seniors with a different coach! I chose to leave for a power conference and found a team with good scholarship situation in Oregon State.

                      14-15 Oregon State 12-18
15-16 Oregon State 25-10 Elite Eight
16-17 Oregon State 37-2 Championship Game
17-18 Oregon State 40-0 National Champions
18-19 Oregon State 38-1 Championship Game

I took over a really bad Oregon State team and had pretty solid success there winning a title and getting to 3 title games in a row. The one thing I never really liked was that I couldn't recruit at a very high level. I had a bad location for sure, but even after my success the best I could do was a top 10 class. The on court product was solid, I always had good players just no elite level talents that could make my team unstoppable when I went into games when I needed a "go-to guy". I decided to leave for a better recruiting scene and chose Clemson:

                      19-20 Clemson 31-2 National Champions
                      20-21 Clemson 20-16

I inherited a VERY good team of seniors but the future was not very bright unless I recruited well. The team in year one was great, having little trouble outside of the ACC tourney and one regular season game. The next year was a struggle. I redshirted a couple of players who I recruited that came in lower overall than expected, that really hurt my depth and I never had much chemistry. I also scheduled very difficult and decided if a job opened up that I wanted for my final destination then I would look for it. Oddly enough in year 2 I found it:

                      21-22 Ole Miss 15-14
22-23 Ole Miss 20-13 First Round
23-24 Ole Miss 9-1 IN PROGRESS

I have played so many of these legacies and I really don't like Ole Miss in real life, I just decided this is going to be my landing spot long term. I like the arena and the conference. Also it is an underrated recruiting bed, lots of JUCO talent like to go to the SEC, and several high end prospects like the SEC. First year wasn't awful as I expected (only had 8 players after cutting several FR & SO), year 2 was an improvement and year 3 is looking good so far. I brought in a top 10 recruiting class with 6 scholarships, building a solid roster fit to the style of play I employ.

Not sure how much more I will progress on this once warmer weather gets here the XBOX doesn't get much play. However, I keep up with updates to this forum. Hope anyone who reads this enjoys, keep playing this game! Maybe one day they will make another one lol
So I have been playing intermittently over the last couple months. I didn't pick up the sticks at all over the summer and just now got around to posting an update. Still with Ole Miss and having a lot of success with them, I do not see myself leaving this job until I retire. Season records are below:

23-24 Ole Miss 30-5 Final Four
                      24-25 Ole Miss 12-17
25-26 Ole Miss 36-1 National Champions
26-27 Ole Miss 38-2 National Champions
27-28 Ole Miss 38-1 National Champions
28-29 Ole Miss 21-1 IN PROGRESS

It definitely took me a while to get Ole Miss to the level that I needed to get them, however I finally have the personnel and the recruiting pattern that works for me. The 24-25 season was absolutely brutal, I had zero leadership (all freshmen/sophomores) playing in a tough conference and with a tough non-conference schedule. It paid off the next three years when I won 3 straight titles and currently sit 5th in the rankings at 21-1 with another somewhat young team in 28-29 that has no seniors on the roster. I do however have several very good Juniors that may make the leap to the NBA after this season depending on their draft stock I assume. I still have a few goals I want to accomplish before the retirement of this career:
-Win 100 consecutive games (have only had no undefeated seasons with Ole Miss)
-Sign #1 Recruiting Class (This game baffles me in that I cannot seem to ever be the top class even when I get 6-7 guys who are all top 100)
-Recruit a "True Fab 5" Sign a player at each position from the same class that eventually starts a national title game.

Other than that I am just playing the game to enjoy it and see how I can improve my own game and find the best players possible to add to my team.

Anyone else out there still playing?? Lets get this thread back to life!

I was just offered a lifetime contract after my 4th season with South Dak State after going 15-18 and basically .500 records every year. Has to be some sort of glitch.

I love simming in sports games because i find when i play i can usually win when i get used to the game although Hoops 2k8 is different. Im still trying to find the best coach profile, i found a formula in Ncaa 14 football that i used to win every NT with a 80 or lower team and i dominated power houses, but i havent found much success in Hoops 2k8. The best year i had was 30 wins but i ended up losing first round in the tourney which sucked. The farthest i got in the tourney was elite 8 but i lost by 1 point and the following year i got to the sweet 16 before i left Western Kentucky for Texas. I think im going to start playing every game instead and get used to it. I love this game tho

I'm in year 2 at Florida A&M, sitting at 5-5. Just played an epic game at Rhode Island, definitely one of the most exciting games I've played in 2k8.

I get off to a rough start, in the first minute of the game, my leading scorer gets fouled and leaves the game with an injury(he's out for at least a month, tough blow to take). I'm thinking my offense is dead in the water. Was down by as much as 10 early on, so I called a timeout to regroup. Suddenly, my SF goes on a tear and racks up 16 points in the first half. I take a slim lead into the half, 38-34.

This game was so intense, the entire second half was back and forth, neither team could put together a run to put the game away until my backup SG hit a crucial 3 to extend our lead 63-57. Under a minute left, RI miss a shot and promptly foul my player after he grabbed the rebound. Head to the line...miss. RI capitalize and rush the ball down the floor. As my players are struggling to get back defensively, their star player hits a wide open 3 to cut their deficit to 3.

My PG gets fouled, heads to the line...miss again. SAME THING happened, except a different player of theirs hits a wide open 3 to tie the game with 11 seconds to go. I couldn't believe it. I try to win it at the buzzer, a hard drive with my SF trying to get a foul at the end, but it failed. Overtime it is.

It was more of the same intensity in OT, neither team giving much. It was a very scrappy game, but another clutch 3 inside of 2 minutes gave me a 5 point lead. This time when my players were fouled, they hit their free throws. Big win on the road, despite my leading scorer getting injured and missing the next month. He should be back just in time for conference play, which is what I really need him for.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

My 360 HD crapped out on me about 4 months ago which resulted in me losing my saved files, including my closed legacy I'd been playing off and on for over 6 years so I had to start over.

I ended up finding an old saved file on a memory card, I'm guessing it was 9 or 10 years old. I had quit playing it because I had gotten my dream job (Iowa State), won multiple nattys and it became too easy with a loaded roster. I decided to tweak some things and I'm now 3 seasons in and as in to this game as I've ever been.

My first tweak was to adjust my roster, I did this by implementing my own formula for a player leaving early and created some recruiting "house rules". Nothing crazy just some things to make the game more competitive. My criteria for a player leaving early is based on a player meeting at least 3 out of 4 of the following.

Overall rating, any underclassman over 85 is eligible if he (1). earned 1st team all conference more than 1 time (2). earned All American honors (3) averaged 20+ points a game. These aren't crazy accomplishments but they keep my roster turnover fairly high and make me change how I play from year to year.

My other major tweak was to recruiting, I limit the amount of offers I can have out to 5* players. I can only have 1 offer out unless, the recruit is an instate player. The same goes for 4* kids but I also can recruit more than one if I am in their top 5 teams preseason. This makes if fun to choose which players to offer before the early signing period and who I think I can wait on. 3* players I recruit have to be REG, LOC, MUN, no limit on them. These restrictions apply to juco players as well.

As far as gameplay, my sliders are pretty tough, not super realistic in game results for some stats but my final scores are generally between 70-85 points. It varies based on opponents. Again my stats aren't all realistic but I get fairly good ppg and assists. Turnovers and shooting % are very high but I'm more concerned about getting a competitive, fun game and realistic end game scores than total sim stats.

I also am not allowed to press unless its the 2nd half and I'm down at least twice as many points as time left in the game. For example, I can press at the 10 minute mark if I'm down at least 20.

My last in game tweak is that I have to play man to man defense unless I am behind and then I can only switch defenses up for 1 possession at a time, rotating the new defense with m2m.

As far as scheduling, I try to schedule the highest rated teams possible. I've had season where all but 1 or 2 non con games were against top 25 teams.

I just started my 4th season. My first season I ended up 23-11 and lost in the 2nd round of the tourney. Season 2 we were loaded, finished 31-3, lost in the final 4 but ended up losing 4 starters to the draft. Season 3 was a rebuild and the first season where my recruiting restrictions really showed. We went 19-13 but won the big 12 tourney and eventually lost to a 1 seed in the 2nd round of the tourney. Season 4, we have 3 starters back from last year and have knocked off #24 Iowa and #1 Ohio State. Next week we go to #7 Maryland and #2 San Diego State.

I'm having a blast with this set up, my team is typically between 87-90 overall and I've gotten blown out on the road by teams that were rated 77. In 3 seasons, I've lost to every big 12 at least once, except for one, Kansas. They are awful for whatever reason. Really unpredictable and 4 seasons later, things haven't gotten stale. Sorry this got a bit lengthy but I just love this game. These changes revitalized it for me.

In season 29, I won my second consecutive national championship, and fifth overall, recently. I’ve been playing the legacy for nearly 11 real-life years now and I’m actually starting to see the end now with season 40 no longer seeming like an impossibly long way away now.

As it is, I’m nearing win No. 900, so it’ll be fun to see how many more wins and titles I can rack up before the end of the legacy. I’ve got pretty stacked teams year in and year out now, so we’re competitive for the title each and every year.
