Okay, time for an update. I wrote tons of notes onto Evernote about my season but didn't have time at work to update you guys. So I simmed a few conference games but played most of them.

    Akron

I won a thriller over Akron. Down by 10 in the second half, I worked back and got up by 3 before they started fouling me to slow the clock. This left me at 17-5 (9-1). Western Michigan, who was tied with me in the MAC, lost again, so I was alone on top of the MAC.

However, my starting Center, Smithson, broke his finger. He was able to play through it, and to be honest I'm not sure how much it affected him. Smithson was here when I arrived, and has A+ potential. He routinely puts up a bunch of points.

    NIU

A couple games later I lost to NIU again! This was my second conference loss, both to NIU. You might remember they blew me out, despite my team being better on paper. I had no answer to them. They just run man on man and seem to have a standard offense. I guess I just don't match up well with them.

    Western Michigan

So then, tied for first place with Western Michigan, I head to their place to decide the MAC regular season. With the stands packed with gold, I get up 9-0 to start. They are running a 2-3 zone, and my guards get hot; I start draining 3s. It's worth noting that I don't have much of long-range game all season, my game is all down low getting the ball to my Center and PFs.

In the second half, up 13, I start to get sloppy at the controller. With 3 minutes left, they make back to back threes and then continue to close the gap. I barely manage to hold them off -- it takes a steal on an inbound after a timeout, pass to my center for a basket and one to separate myself again.

So... won against Western Mich, then closed out my season for another Mac Championship.

      Conference Tourney

At 22-6 (14-2) at this point.

With my only two conference losses being against NIU, obviously I watch their tournament progress like a complete pansy. Luckily, they lose in the first round.

I smoked both Ohio and Miami (OH). I face my old nemesis Western Michigan in the championship game. Up by 2 at half, I pull ahead in the second half and win by 12.

      NCAA Tourney

The lone MAC representative, I am awarded an 8 seed against 9 seed Southern Miss, a team with a logo similar to mine. They are 24-7, and an 84 ovr with a pretty young team.

If you're curious, the 1 seeds this year were Duke, UAB, UCLA (east regional for some reason, 28-2) and St. Josephs.

So I face off against USM at U Albany. Nice court. It was low scoring in the first half, and tied at halftime.

Somehow I lose control of the game in the second half. They go on a run and are up by 10 with just a couple minutes left. Getting desperate, I drain a three. As they bring the ball up, I user steal a pass around mid-court and drive down, kicking it out to my SG for another 3. I then drop another 3 on my next possession!

Still down by 1, I foul. They make the first, miss the second. I get it across half-court and call a timeout. I inbound, pick and roll to my Center Smithson. Under the basket, he throws it up and misses. But I rebound my own shot and try to throw it up again...

... buzzer sounds, I don't get the second shot off.

      Eliminated in the first round.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Well we lost in the semis in the conf tournament in my first season w/ George Mason.
We are 1 game away until we are in full swing into conf play and Im 5-3 (0-1). It's defiantly been pretty frustrating so far because we easily could be 7-2 or 8-1. This is virtually the same team as last years 16-17 team except we lost our starting PF (so I moved last years 6'8" starting SF to the PF position) and our swingman off the bench. And yet we are still playing very sloppy. I'm assuming it's because we only have one senior and are still young team with a lot of sophomores.
We have Providence next (who will be a good test before conf play) and then we are full speed ahead!
Last year with almost all Fr. and So. , we finished 7th so I'm hoping we at least finish 4th. Here's to a successful year!

Season #2 in the books with IPFW finishing at 22-9. I made it to the tournament again as a #12 against Florida and gave em a run but they put me away down the stretch. I almost decided to go somewhere else but I am gonna stick around for another year and see what happens.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Just started a legacy with Florida A&M and my boys sit at 1-3...the craziest part is the fact that we upset #18 Wisconsin 77-69...the Badgers were cold from behind the arch going 3-21 from 3 point range.

                Here's our results so far:

                Colorado 72-69 L
                Wisconsin 77-69 W
                Savannah State 83-72 L
                Kennesaw State 99-89 L (OT)

Against SSU, my leading scorer(he averages 19.0 ppg) went 1-9 from the field to finish with 2 points...but he's been solid in the other 3 games....without him, we definitely would've gotten blown out in the other games. his 20 points and 6 rebounds against Wisconsin were huge.

The Savannah State final score is much closer than it actually was...I went in the half with a 42-40 lead...but got dominated in the 2nd half.

The Kennesaw State game hurts the most so far...I took the lead with about 7 minutes to go in the game and tried to kill the clock...and did get some baskets but KSU would answer back with a some timely 3's....the worse part was when my SF, Larry Jackson, got a key offensive rebound with under a minute left, and missed the put-back that would've given us the lead....in overtime, it was all KSU as the outscored me 23-13 in the extra period.

Another interesting fact about my team, we're the worst FT shooting team in the country.

In my WIU dynasty, I'm now 11-8 and 6-3 in conference. I love my team, but we just can't seem to get out of our own way at times. I was facing IUPUI (2-17) at home. They fielded a lineup with a PG, SG, and 3 PFs. I went with a small lineup and was killing them with speed and the 3 ball. I was up 15 pts, put in some subs, and they came roaring back. I tried everything. I pressed, 2-3 zone, nothing worked. I went big, I went small, nothing could stop them. I lost by 8 to the worst team in conference. Sad part is, my three conference losses are to the 3 worst teams in my conference. We're still tied for 1st in the Summit league though. Here's to hoping I can get it together with my team.

And I also got a stud transfer from Texas that really makes me look forward to the next couple seasons.

He was a former 5 Star, Mr. Basketball from Arizona, has first round buzz, and had a #3 position rank. He was a Freshman All-Conference in the Big XII, but it looks like he was benched for someone else the next year.

I played with him in the midnight madness game and he was the best player on the court. It's too bad that he has to sit out a year -- pairing him with my Sr. big guys would have been vicious.

With a decent recruiting class and this guy, I'm really looking forward to the next couple years at Kent State... even if the MAC is really starting to bore the heck out of me.

IPFW Cinderella???? Now in the 3rd season. We finished 2nd in the conference and needing to win the Conference Tourney to get in. Well after knocking off IUPUI for the championship we get in tourney as #13 seed and face #4 Alabama and after putting them out now against #6 Pittsburgh. With about 7 minutes to go and down 8 I thought it was over but we buckled down and won in OT 74-65 and now face #2 West Virginia. This while my leading scoring center has been injured the last 3 games...will be updating again soon!!

Heartbreaking ending!!!!! Up 58-54 with 43.5 left and going to the line i am thinking man on to the final 8. My center Riley misses the front end of 1 an 1 and they go down and my point guard Mascoll fouls and they hit both free throws. I throw the ball in and they foul my sg jordan who misses the front end and mascoll fouls again on the other end and they hit the front end and cut the lead to 1. They miss the 2nd and my center fouls and they are in double bonus. After missing both free throws again they get the rebound and score with 7 to go and take the lead and I couldn't score in the end and lose by 1 59-58!!!!!. Dang!! And this is a cpu vs cpu dynasty so it's kinda crazy that IPFW is getting there but now I am excited for season #4... I'll be back!!!

Got a 4 seed in the NCAAs and beat #13 Eastern Washington 80-65. Then played #12 Campbell in the 2nd round after they beat Georgetown. Was down as many as 20 early in the 1st half and 12 at half but was able to come back and win it 76-73 to get to the Sweet 16.

In the Sweet 16 faced #1 seed Boston College, who'd beaten us earlier this season on their home court. We got revenge and won 74-64 to get to the Elite 8. In the Elite 8 beat Wisconsin 69-57 to get to my 2nd Final Four in 4 years at Wake, and 4th Final Four overall in 12 years of coaching.

In the Final Four we played the worst game of the season against Syracuse who was a 4 seed. Had more turnovers than assists, shot under 30%, and got handled 71-47. Finish the season at 23-10. Syracuse beat Arizona to win the NC 75-58.

                          My overall record is 313-100 w/ 1 nat'l championship.
Just completed Year 13 of my legacy, and my 5th at Wake Forest. I had been to the Final Four last year and started the season top 5, so the pressure was on from the getgo to make another deep run.

Started off the season by winning the NIT Season Tip-Off, including a win over top 10 Arizona that helped propel me to the #1 ranking for the first time in my career. Then proceeded to lose my first game at the #1 rank at Michigan.

Came back with a few more wins out of conference but lost in the Hawaiian Island Challenge to unranked Tulsa. Tulsa ended up winning their conference, so in retrospect it wasn't that bad of a loss.

Started off 5-0 in the ACC w/ wins at VTech, vs UVA MIA (ranked), at FSU, vs GTech (ranked). Then hit a 4 game losing skid w/ losses at Maryland and Clemson who were both top 5, then lost at home to VTech and on the road to unranked Duke. Came back w/ a home win against #1 NC St and a couple more against unranked FSU and UNC. Lost at GT but won against MD MIA and BC to finish 11-5 in the ACC and 2nd behind NC St.

Got Duke in the first game of the ACC tourney and they made it hard on us again. They had a late comeback and took it to OT where we won 79-72. At this point we're in contention for a #1 seed in the NCAAs. We then beat top 10 GTech to get to the finals and knocked off a tough UNC team 76-71 to win the ACC tourney for the first time in my career (and first time for Wake since 1996). My 7'C Robby Conroy was a beast in this game - 20 pts, 10 rebs, 9-9 FG

We earned the #1 overall seed in the NCAAs and faced PIG winner Sam Houston St. We didn't shoot well but were able to overcome b/c of my big 7' C Robby Conroy and won 69-56. But my PG Altron White rolled his ankle and was hurt (able to play) which affected us the next game.

Round 2 vs 8 Northwestern was tough. They slowed us down and we still couldn't make shot. It was tight all throughout but we won 63-55 to advance to the Sweet 16.

Sweet 16 vs 5 Villanova we stepped it up. Still couldn't make shots but played well defensively and won 65-51.

Elite 8 vs 7 Iowa (who was underseeded since they won Big Ten reg season and conf titles) was the toughest game yet. They had us down 9 late in the 2nd half but we hung tough and again my big man Conroy pulled us through and we won 73-70. Blocked the last second hail mary full court shot.

Final Four vs Maryland - we were tied at 27 at the half but were dominating them on the glass. 2nd half we made a few more of our shots and remained solid defensively to win 62-53 and advance to the first national championship game in Wake Forest history.

Nat'l Championship vs NC State - right off the bat my Sr SG Jean Urbina hit 3 3s in the first half and we took a 42-29 lead into halftime. We kept our lead and kept our composure in then 2nd half. Even when my starting PG White got hurt again, his backup Ferdinand Wisniewski stepped in and dropped 19 pts on 6-7 FG 2-3 3pt. And the final is...WAKE 75, NC ST 60

Wake Forest is your 2020 NCAA Champions! Finished up with a 33-7 record overall. 2nd National Championship of my career, and first in Wake Forest history.

My overall record now in 13 seasons of coaching (UC Riverside, North Texas, Wake Forest) is 346-107 (.764 win pct) with 2 national championships, 5 Final Four appearances, 8 Sweet 16s. And I won my first ever National Coach of the Year award. Needless to say, one of the best seasons of my career.

                            Awesome, congrats Ranger.

Here's my lineup this next year at Kent State:

                            #20 PG/SG Romeo Rice 71ovr JR
#25 SG Randall Clayton 74ovr SR
                            #23 SF Jerod Beatty 72ovr 6'8" FR
                            #41 PF Cam Nava 81ovr 6'11" SR
                            #0 C Nikola Smithson 83ovr 6'8" SR

                            #52 C Neal Krauser 76ovr 7'0" JR
                            #54 PF Lew Camper 73ovr 6'8" FR

My big men down low, Nava and Smithson, do a great job and pretty much dominate the MAC. It will be hard replacing them, although I'll get my transfer from Texas running point next year.

I'm 20-3 (9-1) so far, and just cracked the top 25 for the first time.

What roster are you using? I wouldn't mind starting up a Legacy with the Rattlers; it'd bring back some memories of my time in Tally. They had some good teams when I was living there, same thing with football (which I covered for 3 years).

Stormed through the MAC tourney, finished 27-5. I'm a 6 seed, vs 11 seed Mizzou. I'm an 83 Ovr and they are 88 ovr. Let's see if I can make a run this time.
