Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I finally picked this up since i was needing a new college hoops experience and having played this version on PS2 and being a huge fan of NBA 2K, I already new the greatness. I picked Texas Southern and I'm using this years rosters but I'm still playing the ABL games and having soo much fun doing so. Can't wait to start being able to recruit and hopefully be able to land my dream gig at DePaul sometime down the road.

Depaul and rutgers might be the hardest programs to bring up just because there in the big east

I'm excited about what I can do with this team, especially after winning the conference championship in my first season. I may schedule a few tougher OOC games, to help me at the end of the season.. that is to say, if I can win them.
So, this season has started off sort of rough.

I'm 1-3, with losses to Miss State, FSU, and Hawaii.

I just got past Jacksonville in the first round of the South Padre Island Tournament and I'm awaiting the winner of Detroit and Howard..

I played FSU and Hawaii close, until the second half... both teams were just too quick for my young Samford team.

I'm hoping to make some big improvements in season 2 with this team.

So, I just picked this up after years off. I never really gave it as much playing time as it deserved after playing the wheels off 2k7. Anyway, best sports game I've ever played, I can't believe I let it sit on the shelf for so long.

So I played three years at UCR, never won the conference tourney. I wanted to stay another year or two as I was kinda attached to the players I recruited and was disappointed I didn't go out on a high note. I was offered a rack of jobs and the Kent State job really stood out. Like their uniforms, court, conference, and they had some quality players returning. Seems like their coach had a good team and failed to deliver.

Anyway, first year at Kent State. I'm in first place in the MAC, record sitting at 14-6 (7-1). I just crushed Akron to take sole possession of first place.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

So I used to play CH2K8 all the time on PS2 and didn't pick up the PS3 version until a few days ago. Can't believe it took me so long. Figured I'd give a quick recap of my first few years...

                ---

Anyway, I started a legacy at Robert Morris. Finished 15-17 in a pretty uneventful first year and landed a couple decent recruits. I went 16-15 in year 2 and was one game away from the NCAA Tourney in the conference title game, which I lost because of a last-second desperation 3. I thought about moving on, but didn't get any quality offers and had a JuCo recruit (3-star SG from Philly) that I thought could really help my team in year 3.

Well, he did... Until he got hurt right before conference play. My team limped to a 13-15 record and a first-round exit in the conference tourney.

I figured between the injury to my best player and "The Shot" the year before, it was the video game gods telling me that I couldn't cut it at RMU.

The day after Kansas (gross) won the NC, I got a job offer from Bradley in the MVC. Seeing as how I'm from KS & have some familiarity with the conference (and loved the thought of recruiting Chicago), I took the job. I did leave RMU with some quality talent, so I didn't feel too bad about it (They finally won the conference the year after I left. Go figure).

I could see pretty quickly why Bradley needed a new coach. The best player on the team was a SR PG who couldn't shoot, but was incredibly quick. Everyone else on the team brought nothing to the table. Year 1 in Peoria was a 9-19 dumpster fire.

The offseason was kind, as I landed a handful of 3-star players and two 4-star players (1 JUCO PG, 1 HS SG). Year 2 was a bit better, the team finished 14-17 and lost 9 games by less than 5 points.

I was expecting a big jump in year 3, considering I had a top-15 recruiting class that included two fast PGs (redshirted one), an athletic freak of a SF and a gigantic C. I underachieved thanks to youth, an injury to my SR PG, poor coaching and a bunch of hearbreaking losses. 15-17 and a 1st round loss in the MVC Tournament.

My 4th year at Bradley (and 6th overall), I finally seem to have broken through. After a 1-4 start (that included a 1-point loss to defending champ Pitt and a destruction of Purdue), the team won 18 of the next 23 games. The regular season ended at 19-9, the best mark in the MVC and I lose ZERO seniors after the season.

I have a first-round bye and will play Evansville in my first MVC Tournament game later tonight. They're 4-25 on the season after upsetting Drake in round 1, so I'm expecting to win that one. I'll keep y'all updated.

                ----

Up to this point, I've had quite a few talented teams (except that first year at Bradley. Yeesh), but have yet to make the tournament. I'm hoping that all changes in Year 6. I love recruiting in Illinois and there's only a handful of places I'd leave it for at this point (chief among them being Kansas State), but right now, I'm focused on the MVC Tourney...

89, we're in similar situations, getting seriously into this game so late. Love the story, keep us updated.

Thanks! I'm having a total blast with them. I'm having a lot of success, too... decided on a list of dream schools (about 4 of them) that I would leave for. This way, I'll be less tempted when I get those initial power conference offers.

So I won the regular season conference title, and won the conference tournament. I had never made it to the conference title game at UCR, so this accomplishment was especially sweet.

I actually thought I had a couple of poorly played games in the semis and the finals, but managed to pull it out.

In the MAC championship game, I came out down two points with 15 seconds or so left. I started intentionally fouling, but my team hadn't fouled much that half (10 minute halves) so they were inbounding. I managed to steal the inbound pass, get across half court and call a time out. I tried to run a play, but the players weren't doing what they were supposed to do. Desperately, I passed down low to my PF Wiley. He put a move on his defender and drove forward, reaching up. The ball left his hand right before the buzzer sounded -- and it went in!

In overtime I wore them out, my SF Prince hit several 3s. He finished with 28 points. It felt great.

                  --

I get the 12 seed in the tourney for my first career tournament appearance. Matched up against Texas A&M. I figure I have no shot, my team is an 80 ovr and theirs is a 91.

At the start of the game I started really slow. My guys were missing free throws and I got down by about 8 before going on a run to keep it close. From there on it was a blur. I nailed a 3 to tie the game and send it to overtime. Prince caught fire and I was able to keep up with A&M. They missed a buzzer beater in the first OT and the second OT. I ended up winning in triple overtime. What a freaking game.

If A&M had focused down low they probably would have dominated me, but they stuck to shooting from outside with mixed results.

Now I'm on to the 4-seed FSU Seminoles. Sweet 16 is on the line.

Yeah, like I said, I played the PS2 version, but after I switched to the PS3, I guess I just figured they'd keep making (good) CBB games...

Anyway, your recap is nearly identical to what I've done in the last 24 hours or so.

                    ---

I won the MVC with Bradley by destroying Evansville (had scrubs in by halftime), getting a 10-point win over Northern Iowa and faced Wichita State (who upset #2 seed Southern Illinois in the semis) in the final. I was born in Wichita & can't stand that school, so beating them for the MVC title (my first as a coach) was freakin' awesome. Nothing too dramatic, just quality basketball where my guards dominated the opposition (Neal, my JR PG had turned into a star while Seymour, my SO SG was hot the entire time from the field).

                    ---

I made the tournament (the only MVC team...) as a 12 seed in the East regional & had to play Georgetown in the first round at Ford Field (weird, I know) in Detroit. Like Mr. Rad, I figured I'd get killed because Bradley's overall was 85 compared to Georgetown's 96.

It was neck & neck for the first 5 minutes (15 min halves) until the Hoyas called a timeout. They responded by hitting two 3s and got a breakaway dunk to go up 9 before I called a timeout.

I closed the gap to 5 at halftime and traded baskets until the 10-minute mark when Neal (star PG) hit a big 3 to make it a 2-point game. He got a steal & an easy layup to tie it before Georgetown called their 2nd-to-last timeout with about 8 minutes left.

From there, it was bucket-for-bucket down the stretch. I ran a lot of pick & roll, getting my bigs involved while they kept hitting mid-range jumpers. I called a timeout after getting a defensive stop with 2 minutes left in a tie game.

My idea was to run an Iso with Neal & see if he could beat his guy one-on-one, but the Georgetown SG came on help defense, leaving Seymour (SG) wide open in the corner. Neal dished it out & Seymour canned it, putting me up 3 with 95 seconds left.

They missed a wide-open 3, but their PF got an easy putback, making it a 1-point game with less than a minute left. I let Seymour bring the ball up with the intent on getting Neal the ball. It didn't exactly go as planned, but Neal ended up with a loose ball at the FT line & took a jumper to make it a 3-point game again.

After running down the shot clock, Georgetown missed a 3 & I grabbed the rebound as they started fouling. Made the first, missed the second, but there was only 10 seconds left. GT hit a 3 to get within 1 with less than 5 seconds left, but never got the ball back.

                    #12 Bradley: 65
                    #5 Georgetown: 64
On to play #4 Florida in the round of 32.

                    ---

My game with Florida wasn't quite so dramatic, but had it's share... Tracy Wolfson's first report mentioned that the Florida coach told her about how excited he was to get to the Sweet 16 and that they were looking to expose my guards. I don't think so, Mr. Donovan...

Neck & neck for the first half, tied at 35 at halftime. Seymour had 10 to lead my team in the first half, but the Florida bigs kept killing me with offensive rebounds and Neal struggled, going 2-8 from the field for 4 points.

I'm normally strictly a man-to-man guy, but switched to a 2-3 zone to start the 2nd half because of my poor rebounding. It worked for a bit, as I gained a 4-point lead (mostly because of quick shots by Florida) before UF called a timeout.

I came out with my high-pressure man defense & Neal got a quick steal & an easy layup to put me up 6. I would keep them at arms length until about the 4:30 mark.

For most of the half I had Seymour as my primary ball-handler (usually Neal, but I love combo guards that can play the 1 or 2), but he hit a cold streak & threw a couple bad passes and Florida took advantage to tie it up with just under 4 minutes left.

I called timeout, kept Neal at SG and put my SO PG Dickey at PG to give UF a different look. UF responded with a full-court press. Dickey broke it the first time for an easy layup. UF hit a 3 to go up 1 with under 3 minutes left, their first lead since the first half.

I let 'em play and Dickey drove the lane, kicked it out to Neal, who canned a 3, his first of the game. Florida never recovered as their PG threw a bad pass, leading to an easy layup for Neal. After See (SO PF) grabbed a big board with 1:30 left, I called a timeout, up by 4.

I put Seymour back in at SG (Neal was at the point) and he hit a mid-range jumper to put me up 6. At that point, UF started jacking up quick & contested shots, couldn't hit many of them and started fouling.

After a bunch of fouls & free throws, it was over. Bradley's back in the Sweet 16!

                    #12 Bradley: 65
                    #4 Florida: 58

                    ---

And now I'm rewarded with the East's #1 seed, Oregon (29-6, 12-6, #4 RPI) in the DCU Center..... This outta be fun.

I'm not sure exactly but I think it's 40 years. You get the "swan song" message before your final season which comes somewhere near the end of the 2040s.

Just started a legacy about a week ago using Montana State out of the Big South. Sitting at 9-4 after first conference game. I love how i can hang with UNLV and lose by 3 one game to getting blown out by Gonzaga to blowing out UC Santa Barbara to beating Arizona St. to losing in heartbreaking fashion to Oregon St. Follow along if you'd like here: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043167074

They had a 7'3" Center and their guards were making everything. It was the first time I had felt helpless in weeks. I didn't bother writing down any notes because it got ugly quickly. I ended up losing by about 20.

On the bright side, my team was quite young. I don't really have an outside threat anymore since my SF graduated, so I'll have to figure something out.

I just finished playing some ABL, so I'll post up my starting roster sometime soon.

89, awesome games, good luck in the Sweet 16.

In my first year at Charleston Southern, im 2-10. Recently ive personally had a tough time shooting well. So i took a break for a couple days, and came back and started up conference play. Playing VMI, i started off a little slow, but found my shot once again. Went into the half with a 46-36 lead. The second half, the Cadets would have non of the first halves happenings. They would go on several long runs and CSU couldnt hold onto the ball and would end up losing 81-71. I was getting very pumped at points when i was leading the game. Got very intense. Looking forward to the rest of the conference schedule. I play 2-10 Radford next.
