I just go through the teams, sort their roster by height, and if they have any tall Fr. (or JUCO recruit), take a couple inches off their height. It can take an hour or two, but it also gives me a chance to kind of get to know teams/players more in-depth.

I've only done it for a few seasons, but so far it has seemed to minimize wacky upsets, especially in the NCAA tournament because the seedings are generally better.
Thanks, but since I don't actually play any of the games, the height of the player doesn't matter. It's all calculated from the stat ratings.

I'd like to rescind my post. After my 20-13 season, I went 19-15 (NIT), 27-7 (Final Four), and 35-3 (NCAA Champion), so I think I powered through the AI. Still had some questionable simulated game results, but my recruiting was strong enough to over come it. Now the hard part. Had 7 seniors graduate or get drafted. Gotta rebuild.

I sim almost all of my games too and I *think* height has a pretty big impact on the sim engine. At least, it has played out that way for me with fewer power/major teams being upset by small conference teams since I've done this the last couple seasons.

I may be mistaken but I feel like height and rebounding are tied together, I remember having a 7'2" guy who was only like 59 ovr average damn near 12 rebounds a game when I was in the early rebuilding stages

So going through the mid majors and editing heights helps limit all these ridiculous upsets?

yep, it helps a hell of a lot. I used to have at least 1 16 seed win at least 1 game in tournament every 2 years, but now I have only seen 1 16 seed win a game in about 25 years.

Im in year 2 of my career legacy, I modified rosters and chose to start at North Florida. Season 1 we went 10-18 and went .500 in conference play. Year 2 we're on a roll and are 9-0 with 3 top 25 wins and seem to be on the verge of nicking a top 25 spot

Started this legacy a few years ago after watching a Grinnell basketball game and wondering what it would be like if a team took their style a step further and attempted all of its shots from 3 point range. The goal was to build up-tempo, guard-heavy, full-court zone pressing teams with 11 or 12 legit shooters (80+ 3PT rating) all set with 100 3PT shot tendencies (and 0 for every other shot) and sub them in waves to keep them fresh (every 2-3 minutes). Early on the style worked well enough against poor teams but I always got punched out early in the tourney because my teams didn't have enough shooters or ballhandlers to beat anyone good. In my 4th season at Saint Mary's I had finally recruited well enough to go 12 deep and everything started clicking. I just won my 15th championship in a row and am currently on a 221 game winning streak.

I beat 5 ranked teams during the season and ended up in the Big XII Conference Championship, but lost to Kansas (of course). I didn't get into the NCAA Tournament, but I also didn't even get an NIT invite. Does that sound strange? Is there no CBI in this game?

Starting Season 6 I was ranked preseason at #18. I started 4-0, beating Wyoming, Wisconsin, Wichita State, and Miami (FL). Then I lost 3 straight to Alcorn State, Wofford, and North Carolina A&T. I did not sustain any injuries. I'm completely baffled by this.

FYI, I sim all games as I want to concentrate on my recruiting skills. In Season 6, my offense and defense are both B+ and my two assistants are B/B+ and A/B-

Any advice to make the results more realistic would be appreciated.
Your final record had you at 13 losses and 8-8 in your league...

Regardless of making the tournament championship, I'd venture to guess your league was not top 3 and that your RPI was not great...

Recognize that this is based on how they looked at resumes in 2007 and not 2017...just being in a BCS and winning 20 won't get you automatically invited to the dance....

Also, I find the NIT to be very hit and miss...they just sometimes take the leftovers with the best W/L record, so if there are a lot of upsets in smaller leagues, you lose spots based on that.

The CBI was created in 08 and the CIT in 09, so you were another year or so off from the 3rd tier tournaments being a reality...

As for making it more realistic, I'd suggest taking a look at restructuring the conferences from before you start a dynasty....you can make any number of changes to make it either more realistic (or more fun) --- Ex. I have made changes to make the game and conferences more geographically specific, but also placing the top 12 programs of all time in my Big 12.

Also, the biggest thing I recommend (it takes time just as a FYI) is to edit the tendencies for all of your opponents (and possibly the entire game if you sim) so that teams will play to the strengths and weaknesses of their talent.

The NIT gives auto-bids to any team that won their conference regular season but didn't make the NCAA tournament as an at-large bid or didn't win their conference tournament. The leftovers are what they feel are the best teams.

Still, even without a CBI or CIT, I've come to terms with how the game works. Just finished my 19th season at Nebraska:

                            2 NIT appearances
                            1 First Round exit
                            1 Second Round exit
                            3 Sweet 16 exits
                            2 Elite 8 exits
                            1 Final Four exit
                            1 NCAA Championship

I started with NCAA 2010, but saw too many posts bragging about 2K8, so bought that instead. I don't know if I could ever go back to NCAA 2010, now. The recruiting is just superb in 2K8.

As far as conference realignment, I'm hesitant since you can't change the size of the conference, or its prestige, so switching the A-10 and ACC to account for amount of schools won't change the available recruits. The ACC will still get the top recruits.

I'd love to find someone to actually edit the game code to not only change the size of the conferences, but also change the names. Make the PAC10 the PAC12, add the AAC, etc. Also, add new D1 teams like North Dakota, Grand Canyon, etc.

EDIT: Also started a closed legacy with Stony Brook. After 10 seasons:

                            1 NIT appearance
                            2 First Round exits
                            1 Second Round exit
                            2 Sweet 16 exits

Considering how small Stony Brook is and how small the America East conference is, I think I did pretty good.

Just finished my 15th season in a closed legacy with Stony Brook:

                              Season: 2021-2022
                              Pre-Season Rank: #1
Final Rank: #1 (stayed at #1 all season)
                              Overall Record: 33-1
                              America East Record: 16-0
Postseason Result: 1-seed in NCAA Tournament, Lost to 5-seed Kansas State in Sweet 16
                              NCAA Champion: Vanderbilt

This was really disappointing as I had mostly seniors and all above 84 overall rating. Now I have to restock and rebuild. I was so close to winning it all with a small school from a small conference.

EDIT: Finished 16th season last night:

                              Season: 2022-2023
                              Pre-Season Rank: #25
                              Final Rank: #25
                              Overall Record: 35-3
                              America East Record: 15-1
Postseason Result: 7-seed in NCAA Tournament, Beat 9-seed UNLV to win NCAA Championship
                              NCAA Champion: Stony Brook

So, my disappointment turned to glory quite quickly.

In my 4th season in my career Legacy that I started with North Florida, We are riding high this season and we're a 1 seed in this years tournament after going undefeated through the Regular Season and Conference Tournament.

Our schedule wasn't a cupcake schedule either, 4 top 25 wins and their rankings at the time I beat them were #1 Kansas, #2 Maryland, #3 Florida and #16 Southern Miss. I also Beat Notre Dame twice(once in a tournament and one normal game) I beat Memphis at their place by 5 to top that all off.

I'm not expecting to get very far with this team though. We're a fairly young team with 4 of 5 starters being Sophomores and Freshmen with one Senior. I have 7 scholarships to recruit with this year so I'm hoping to really get some good talent coming this coming year
