Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I tried starting another career legacy over the long weekend, I'm determined to stick with this one for a while.

I used an open legacy though because I like to be able to edit ratings for my team and other teams (most important) throughout the legacy. I also wanted to start with Quinnipiac. Started with the 07-08 rosters.

So I simmed the regular season in year one and got the 8th and final seed in my conference tournament. I got blown out by #1 seed Sacred Heart, it was never really close.

Recruiting was typically poor the for the first year, got high up on the interest meter with tons of "reach" kids but they all signed elsewhere at the last minute. I signed a pair of two-star guys and a three-star JUCO freshman. The Juco kid turned out to be a real diamond in the rough, he was a 76 overall as a sophomore (his first year in my program) and was the third best player in the conference based on overall rating. He's a skilled, thin power forward.

So I simmed the regular season for my second year, finished 4th in the conference and my Juco recruit led my team in scoring and rebounding at 12 & 7 per game.

So on to the NEC tournament I had a real tough battle at St. Francis (NY) to start it off. It was back and forth the entire game, I don't think either team got up more than six. I ended up winning by two after they hit a meaningless three at the buzzer. It was the first game I actually used the juco PF, he was a beast. I had 23 and 11 with him.

Game two was at Robert Morris who upset #2 seed Mount St Mary's. I controlled the first half and executed well on offense, led by 9 at the break. My offense then went ice, ice cold to start the second half. RMU chipped away at my lead as I couldn't through the ball in the ocean. The eventually took a seven point lead, I was watching my season melt away possession by possession. I started pounding the ball inside to my PF and he carried me after a quiet first half. I was up one with under :10 to go when my PF got fouled and I was in the bonus. He's got 84 for FT so I figured I'd be all set but he missed the front end. RMU got the board, came down and shot a contested three at the buzzer that bounced off the back rim and fell harmlessly to the ground. My PF had 20 pts and 10 boards, some nice round numbers. One win away from the dance.

The finals took place at my home court against Farleigh Dickenson, also a lower seed who upset Sacred Heart (the #1 seed) in the semifinals. I kept a 6-10 pt lead for a majority of this game but let it slip away late after I choked at the FT line and gave up too many offensive boards. I had a nine point lead with three minutes left but FDU tied the game up with :10 left and I couldn't get a good shot off and my fadeaway at the buzzer never had a chance at going in. So on to OT, I couldn't believe I had let a 9 point lead, and my ticket to the big dance, slip away in regulation. But fear not, in OT my PF carried me, scoring 13 of my 20 points as I won by nine to win the NEC crown and get my automatic bid! My PF had 32 pts and 14 rebounds, both career highs.

Watching the Selection Show is so much cooler with a low major team, wondering what powerhouse you'll get crushed by in the opening round is pretty cool. I drew a 15-seed and got Texas in the first round, the game was at Rupp Arena.

The first half was awesome, Texas came out asleep and I was executing on offense. James Feldine, a sophomore SG and my sixth man, had 14 first half points (a career high lol) and Damion James and AJ Abrams were both shut out. Feldine also hit a three at the halftime buzzer tying the game at 31 all. I couldn't believe it, I was struggling so much with the NEC teams yet I was hanging in with the mighty Longhorns.

And then the second half started...

Back to reality pretty fast, my offense became stagnant as hell and Texas got hot on offense plus started forcing turnovers. I got outscored 40-16 in the second half, Feldine didn't score a single point after the break.

So the season ended and off to the coaching carousel, I wasn't expecting any offers yet but much to my surprise I got offered the VCU job - I immediately accepted obviously. Eric Maynor had just finished up his senior season but they have a young core and Anthony Grant had signed a 4-star SG who turned out to be the best player on the team as a freshman and a 77 overall. Grant moved on to Georgia btw.

Looking forward to playing a majority of the games now that I'm at VCU. Definitely a nice change from playing with UConn all the time in my other legacy.

When playing at a neutral site how was the crowd? Were they all in burnt orange, yelling and screaming (Ohhhhhhhh) or was it truly a "neutral" court?

From the sounds of all the impressions that I've been reading the past couple of days it making me think about getting this. I may have to take a loss and trade in NCAA 10 and pick this up.

It was all burnt orange, they had their chants going and the screen was shaking when I was shooting FTs - which isn't a problem since they were the #2 seed and no one would travel to Kentucky to watch Quinnipiac play.

There is a Sixth Man meter for both teams which helps even things out and matters the most IMO.

You definitely need to pick this game up, you won't regret it.

Does this change during the Final 4 and NC game or is always the colors and crowd of the home team? Just curious.

I definitely picking it up for the ps3 tonight. I need a college game in my life and this looks like it could be the one.

I can't remember but I'm pretty sure it's split 50/50 when you get deeper into the tournament. The sixth man feature is the most important though, you don't want only one team getting the advantage of that feature on a neutral court (which was a problem pre-patch).

True, I just read through the post patch impressions and it looks like it helped out a ton. I didn't play it post patch because I was so frustrated with the game play. But, it looks like it was fixed up a lot.

I spent my first two seasons with Texas State... finished middle of the pack in my first season but won the conference tourney and got bounced by top seeded Duke in the first round. Second year, I dominated the conference, going 16-0 and then I easily took the conference title. I upset UConn in the second round as I blocked a game winning shot attempt they had to win by one, but I got beat in the Sweet 16.

Mark Few left Gonzaga after that season and I was hired to take over the job. I got handed a loaded team and ended up 28-1 going into the conference tournament, my only loss to top ranked Duke in a blowout at Cameron. I rode the conference player of the year Austin Daye into the Final Four, where Providence got the best of me 84-76.

Now, I've got a loaded squad coming back and added a real good speed, quick point guard as a spark to come off the bench. I return all five starters and I'm primed for another deep run into March.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I am planning on starting one soon. An open legacy with a bad/decent school in the Power Six conference. I am also probably going to be a real Head Coach. For example, If I took Arkansas, I'd maky my Coach John Pelphrey and continue my legacy as him. Here are the teams I was thinking about:

                      1) Arkansas- Decent team. Never done extremely well in the SEC.

                      2) Notre Dame- Other than 'Gody this team is terrible. I'd love to try and make this team a power house in the Big East.

                      3) Indiana- This team is pretty bad, and I'd like to be Tom Crean, and attempt the extremely difficult re-building task. I'm not much of a recruiter so Indiana's prestige should help me out.

                      4) Iowa St.- For some reason I always loved Iowa State watching Seneca Wallace for them. I love their colors, and they aren't very good. They do have a great star in Craig Brackins, and if I go with an out of date roster, Wesley Johnson.

                      5) Virginia Tech- For the last couple years I've been pulling for VT because of the tragedy. I really liked Washington (forget first name, Darius?) on past teams, and their colors and court.

                      6) Oregon St.- I can't remember the last time Oregon St. was respectable. They are getting on the right track now with Craig Robinson, so I'd like to finish it up for him and get an NCAA birth.

Can't wait to get back in this team, and if you have an opinion on who I should choose please tell me.
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

I just did the same thing Ray Allen. I decided to go with FSU. Alabi, Snaer, Singleton is quite the foundation to build from.

I've started the same type of legacy a few times but it never holds my interest unless I'm an ACC school, usually NC State or Virginia.

I can't be a Big East school because I play my UConn legacy so often and the other power conferences get really boring to me.

RayAllen, I would vote for Oregon State. Some good recruiting wars out there and you get to play against some quality programs like UCLA, Arizona, ASU, USC, Oregon and Washington.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Played my first two games this season in my career legacy, my third year overall and first at VCU. That freshman that Anthony Grant signed (4-star, #17 SG) is an A-N-I-M-A-L. He's like Manny Harris but a better shooter, he can get by everyone (so far) with the dribble and gets to the line a ton. Real athletic, finishes above the rim regularly.

So the season opener is at home vs Howard (66 ovr, I'm an 80). Of course I'm still on MOP so Howard is executing like crazy and stays with me the entire game - but that wasn't the big story. My freshman SG went off, he was destroying Howard. Fast forward to the end of the game, tied at 65 when I call one of my created plays for the SG. The frosh gets the ball, drives, goes up for a layup, defender tries to take a charge...I make the shot and get the whistle for a blocking foul! 2.2 seconds left on the clock! I knock down the FT and Howard misses a half court shot. My freshman finished with 41 points, 3-7 from deep.

Game 2 is versus Ball State, also at home. They were a 73 so a stiffer challenge than Howard. Slight step up in competition, same result from my frosh.

I was up by two with time winding down, worked the ball around and hit a three from the corner with my freshman with 5 seconds left to ice the game. Frosh finished with 43 points this time!

Craziness, this kid is only a four-star recruit but he's dominating. Impressive even though it's poor competition. I don't think I've ever scored 40 with an individual player in the hundreds of legacy games I've played, now I get two back to back. And this kid is a only a frosh, usually they are super inconsistent/streaky. I'm not cheesing or anything either, he's just a beast.

I'm at Florida State next game, should be interesting to see how he plays against a Big 6 team and on the road.

I've taken Wisconsin to 4 straight final fours, but haven't been able to make the championship game. I think this is finally my year. I have my highest rated team yet in this legacy (a 95 that should be a 96 by the time the tournament rolls around) and have been bouncing around the top 5 all year and am hoping for a strong finish and the overall number 1 seed.

I just played one of the best games I've ever played. I was ranked 5th and undefeated, a 94 overall and going up against 91OVR Georgia Tech. I started the game with a turnover on a bad pass and they make a layup. Then I turn it over on the inbound against their press and they score another easy basket. From then on they start schooling me like I'm an intramural squad.

I stick to my game plan and press after baskets, apply decent pressure, and attack the basket; but they just keep beating my press, getting open shots, and I have never had such a bad shooting game. I kept getting inside and missing the layup, getting fouled and then missing the free throws. I think I missed my first 8 free throws, and six of them where the same player. My offense was doing what it was supposed to do, I just couldn't get the ball in the basket. The only bright spot in the first half was my freshman PF who was a beast in beating their press. If I could get the ball to him over the mid-line I was pretty much guaranteed a monster dunk.

Nearing half-time I finally decided it was time to throw out the plan. I cranked up the pressure to 100%, went to a constant press, and switched to a 2-3 zone and trapped their bigs anytime they got the ball near the outside. On offense I made the effort to get more threes, but they weren't falling. I went into the half down big, it was something like 49-29.

I honestly thought about just giving up and siming to the finish. To start the half though my defense started to work and I started forcing turnovers. I finished forcing 25 TOs and almost all of them came in the second half. On the effort of my defense, and the backs of my backup SG who started to find his shot and my freshman PF I made a come back.

With 6 minutes left I was down by three. With 5 minutes left it became a back and forth game. In the end I finally made free throws to seal an 81-77 win.

I shot 40% from the field and only hit 4-23 three pointers. My defense really won the game though because after shooting nearly 70% in the first half Georgia Tech finished just shooting a bit over 40%.
