Re: This game owns my soul.
guys, what level are you playing on...I was under the impression that All COnference is the most realistic because BOTH the CPU and Human players are playing with their true attributes and no enhanced modifiers or boosts like the AA and MOP levels...am I wrong on that one?
Also, why does everyone turn OFF CLUTCH? What's the logic behind it? I always thought it added more realism to the game by introducing a variable into late games in which the veteran cool- under- pressure guys could turn the tide of a close ball game....am I wrong?
Did you all know you can randomly PLAY ANY game for any team in your dynasty? Thats a cool feature thats missing from NCAA basketball 09Comment

Re: This game owns my soul.
the problem with clutch on is that players perform better than their ratings insist. if a player has a good rating then he will perform well for you in the clutch when you need him. its almost like the player gets an attribute boost for no reason when clutch is on. i hate it.Comment

"Clutch" players are just great players, period. Therefore, there's no need for some special attribute to make them unique. The player ratings already do a good job of separating players of different talent levels. In any sports videogame I play, if there's a "clutch" option, I turn it off.Ryan Spencer

I'd rather there be a "choke" attribute than a "clutch" attribute so Lebron would play like he does in real life.Comment

Re: This game owns my soul.
I dont side for or against, I am just opening up some interesting perspectives on this because I personally don't know how I feel about this yet...so let me throw this out there as food for thought.
By this toiken, couldn't the same argument then also be made to remove or turn off Home Court Advantage, Consistency rating, Leadership rating, Confidence rating, even momentum and 6th man??? Arent these too also similar examples of intangible modifiers that 'skew' what we perceive as 'authentic' results?
What about batting averages with runners in scoring position?...clutch hitters in baseball?
Do we want to argue that they dont exist? David Ortiz, one of the games hottest hitters with men in scoring position.....or better yet, David Wright a lifetime 300 hitter was absolutely dreadful hitting with RISP last year. Is it just a coincidence or is it a result of one of those 'intangible' human elements that add further distiction of a player's skills and abilities.
I say, the more attributes and modifiers the merrier to add more definition and character to a player as long as they are done with subtle and believable effect!
Personally, I feel that a CLUTCH rating is as tangible as a MIDDLE, INSIDE and OUTSIDE Shooting rating for a player....you certainly can track a player's stats and performance within an isolated environment and deem it a clutch situation moreso than you can map their LEADERSHIP ability or even their FATIGUE effects....no?
Wait, did I just choose a side?Last edited by Lisa_Bonami; 12-02-2008, 04:16 PM.Comment

Re: This game owns my soul.
In theory that's fine but it isn't implemented like that in 2K8. When clutch is on it's more a team thing, it gets to be two minutes left in the game and the CPU will make every single shot, I've seen the CPU hit seven straight three's with a hand in their face in the three minutes of a game, make several absurd steals while I miss five straight layups and dunks.
If it just meant that Rashad Anderson is gonna hit every three-pointer he takes down the stretch of a tight game then fine, but there is no differentiating between players when it comes to this.

Re: This game owns my soul.
Just lost a HEART BREAKER to Florida... good thing these are just quick games lol. Played with some new sliders and shot 41% while Florida shot 39%, but made 10 3's including a dagger at the end. First half was very low scoring, both teams under 33% shooting. But wow, was it fun. I love this game. I love college basketball.Comment
