Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
So I’m getting pretty good games with these sliders I’ve been playing with. I took the player movement of one slider set I have used over the years and then I used my favorite slider set to fill out the rest of the sliders. I tweaked them by using what ehhhhhh has been posting about and I think they are giving me a nice blend of different games, but also a modern feel to the game. The game just feels more snappy, especially if you have a good shooting team. I’d love to hear some thoughts about them. Here they are:
Play Mode: Simulation
Difficulty: All-American
Game Time: I play on 12 minutes, but it’s up to you

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
Recently started playing this game and man is it awesome. One thing I'm trying to hash out though is how much ABL stats matter compared to scouted ratings.
For example, there's a 3-star PF #175 OVR who's scouted as a B+ 3PT shooter, which seems solid, and there's a 2-star unranked PF who's scouted as a C- 3PT shooter. However, the 3-star was 0-10 from three throughout the ABL, and the unranked guy was 11-17 for a 0.647 percentage, which is nuts.
They're both about the same build and I'm sure the 3-star is a better player overall, but if I'm looking for a stretch 4 who can knock down the three, it seems the 2-star would be a way better fit based on how they performed in the ABL, despite having a significantly worse scouted rating.
Does anybody have any input on how much value to put on a player's ABL stats versus his rating in a category or vice versa?Comment

If none of your coaches have an A+ scouting rating, then always go by percentage in the ABL numbers. Those don't lie, and it always ties directly into what the shooting tendencies for those players are.
What probably happened is that that 2 star was probably a 4-5 star in his junior year, but dropped in ranking due to the new generation of 5 stars coming out of nowhere his senior year. The skill and attributes are still there though, and this is why it's important to keep track of some juniors (particular those in states that have numerous basketball prospects like California, NY, Texas, and North Carolina).Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
I have a question and I didn't know if this was the place to ask but I have choops 2k8 on rPCS3 and I'm wondering how to do the free-throws? It told me to tilt the controller (I'm using Xbox 1 Controller) and I did and nothing happened. I used the shot stick and virtually everything else to no avail. I also can't find the setting that allows me to do the free-throw without the sixxaxis stuff. Can someone help me please? I would appreciate it.Comment

Just re-read the whole thread and didn't see this so I wanted to add it.
I have recently taken to adjusting the CPU shooting tendencies before every game based on the other team's strengths. So if they have two seven-footers, I'll crank up inside shooting. If they have 3 sharpshooters, I'll crank up 3 point shooting tendencies. It's made a big difference.
I was inspired to do this after I thrashed a team that shot 2-21 from three because they kept on jacking up threes with their guys who have 50s and 60s rated three point shooting.
First game doing this was a thrilling double OT game - so that seems like success.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Damn, seems like this thread is kinda dead. Hopefully someone can see this though. How do y’all time your jumpers? Also does layups need to be timed??Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
Jumper timing: yes, every release has a different "sweet spot" and some are easier than others.
Layup timing: you don't need to time the release the same way you do with jumpers. However, when you start the layup matters. I've found that starting it earlier than you'd expect makes for more successful contested layups than starting late.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
Has any progress been made with modding this game? I know the current rosters are able to change the conferences up a bit, but I personally find Vanderbilt to be in the ACC too big of a change for me to enjoy a Legacy with that setup. I've been playing NCAA Basketball 10 since it is modded and has some conferences updated, but if I am honest, I miss 2k8 and would rather play it, but the modding team has done so well with updating NCAA 10 that it is just enough to keep me from coming back to vanilla 2k8.
If 2k8 can get modern conference alignments and uniforms, then I'll be sucked right back in.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
I'm about to start playing this and I have played a little before, but got pissed off when I couldn't do the hop step. Instead, every time I tried it my player would do the spin move. I remember the control isn't that hard, but I had to be doing something wrong. Is there any secrets or anything I should pay attention to when activating the hop step? Like timing or anything else. I do remember it's R1 drive then square to hop step, but I think it said to hold the drive button then square or keep holding the R1 when u press square. If anyone knows how many years after lol I'd appreciate any help. I wanna win my first nation title. Closest I got was losing the finals, but that was on NCAA 2k on PS2.Comment

You're on the right track. You have to let go of the sprint button before pressing square. If you hold onto the sprint button and press square it does the spin move.“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment
