Is anyone else getting pissed off

...at these NBA Stars refusing to play for the USA Team. I mean these guys are getting millions and they can't give back to their own country who made it possible for them to be paid crazy amounts to play a game. Pisses me off. They should all be begging to play for the USA after last Olympics pathetic and embarrassing peformance. Where is the pride? Where is the sense of revenge? Do they still not realize or care that we need our ELITE players, not just some B list stars, if we want to
    ensure victory.

Whoever refuses to play for the USA should be booed every time they touch the ball during a NBA game.

I dont know if these players will play or not, but here's my team -

PG Chauncey Billups / Jason Kidd (or Baron Davis if Kidd is too old)
SG Ray Allen / Dwayne Wade / Tracy McGrady
SF Kobe Bryant / Lebron James / Bruce Bowen
PF Kevin Garnett / Rasheed Wallace
C Amare Stoudamire / Ben Wallace

honorable mention - Brad Miller, Elton Brand, Richard Hamilton, Paul Pierce

The fact that you care so much about it that you actually get pissed off, scares me a little bit.

Freedom of choice, its a great thing.

China enlists their players like troops. Yao Ming will have to cut his career short and retire early because of it. Just be thankful we dont have scenarios like that in this country.

If they dont want to play, fine. If they do want to play, more power to them.

Yeah if you truly believe that, are you telling me if all the stars chose not to go and instead we sent

          PG Kevin Ollie
          SG Bernard Robinson
          SF Qyntel Woods
          PF Mark Madsen
          C Michael Bradley

You'd be fine with us losing by 20 every game? "oh well, it's their choice."

Pfft... you lost by 20 with you so called stars last time 'round anyway.

You'll make the same mistakes again by picking guys like Wade on their name, rather than people like Korver, Redd and role players who will play like a team, rather than go 1 on 1 and continue to miss the side of a barn on jumpers.

Exactly. They can do whatever they please. This is America and if they'd rather do something else, they can.

Picking stars wasnt the problem, the problem was the type of players they picked. Marbury isnt a real PG, Iverson is a gunner, Wade had no game outside of 15 feet, and Lebron didnt have a jumper. If you pick a team of superstars that complement each other then you'd have a team more than capable of playing off each other and as a team. Think the last 5 minutes of a close allstar game. That team would not lose a quarter, much less a game....

I dont blame them, I mean im sure most of the reasons why some players choose not to go is to spend time with their family. I can definatly deal with and respect that decision.

Re: Is anyone else getting pissed off

Plus injuries and resting makes a difference. Why aren't the country's best soccer players play in the olympics? do they get all bent out of shape because englands best players don't play soccer? You gotta relax...i rather have players who want to play than be forced because they "have to." I don't think tis the players faults its who's running it makes a difference, we have all the talent in the world to pick anybody in the nba to make a gold team. We need the organization, coaching and chemistry to make it work.

America needs to embrace the NBA before it can expect NBA elite to play imo. Last year people were rooting against their own countrymen which is telling. I applaud those that play, but I would never root against the team that represents us. These guys are mostly in their 20's, and they dont get a great sense of patriotism when their own country hopes they lose like last time.

Re: Is anyone else getting pissed off

All in all, I think it is greedy for those that are asked not to play for their country to not do so. Can you think of anything greater, than your family, than serving your country? Now, they are not serving like the military is, but in some ways they are. Sports unites the nation in times of need, just look at 9/11 and the nfl, or other countries around the globe and the world cup. I cant think of anything i would rather do, if i had the ability, than to win the gold at the olympics. Many of these players have no chance at ever winning an nba title, and should be grateful they are selected as one of the best players in the country to represent the USA. What if all of our best atheltes chose not to compete? Would we be considered the powerhouse of sports that we are today? of course not, but those that have travelled the road before and allowed us to become what we are should not be disgraced this way. NBA stars have become selfish, and need to evaluate whats more important in life; a trip to the bahamas, or the pride of your nation.

I don't think its a big deal at all. Do you get mad at guys that don't buy those car magnets where some of the money spent goes towards the war or what ever? I think too many people are making this a big deal.

How about this...you have your job, lets say you're an accountant...you get vacation, well...what if the US had an accounting team, that competed in challenges against other countries. (pretty lame, but its the first 9-5 job that popped in my head) but the event takes place during your vacation, AND you have to start preparing 2 years in advance....would you do it? You would not only have to do your normal 9-5 job, but you would also have to prepare for that event, and it would consume all or a large majority of your vacation. Oh, and a new aspect...imagine the small possibility that you suffer some sort of injury to your brain (I know, another crazy stupid thing...but its just for this scenario) from all that number crunching and you can't do your job anymore...you're 26 and will never be able to account again, or at least never at the level you were before.

I'm all about wanting the US to win it, but I don't blame these guys, they play basketball as their JOB! I know many people that wouldnt want to spend time doing their job when they could be enjoying their vacation, granted these guys will still be working out for next year...but not competing at high levels risking injury...I'm just gonna stop it here.
