An argument was made about guys in the NBA representing their country...so fighting in the war would be representing your country...and if its such a big deal about not representing your country playing basketball, then why isnt it a big deal about fighting in the war...or simply being involved in some fashion in the war.

So I can understand where he is trying to go, I think. But risking your life is bigger than risking career ending injuries playing ball...so I disagree that a war is like playing basketball in the olympics...but I do see it relevant to the topic...in a way

HAHA that cracks me up. All that tells me is that some of you don't have a clue what its like to help protect our way of life, you guys just take advantage of it. But then again, I am probably dealing with some 15 year olds.

Don't sweat it Mutumbo888, these tykes like to talk like they know about life.

      As least give 'em that.

We're not freaking out about anything, and yes, we are wondering: Who are you that this makes you guys so "pissed"?

And I do have an idea of what it is like to protect our way of life, I have many friends and family members in the armed forces and some who are policemen. I have heard many stories from my best friend who is in Iraq right now, and from my girlfriend's cousin who is about to go back over there after coming home just a few moths ago from being over there, and even from my sisters friend who is a cop in Charlotte. So, yes, I do have a clue about what it is like protecting our livelyhood, and I am sure many others here do as well.

And I am sure most here are not 15, I am in fact 21 (22 next Thursday). So I am just curious about how old you are calling people here "tykes"...that seems pretty childish to me, but whatever.

And finally, please, OH PLEASE! ...give me the satisfaction of me thinking I know about life.

Well, Prince and Kidd are out now...shame on them...how could they turn their backs on the country like that?

The greatest rivals in the past... Magic and Bird, Olajuwon and Ewing, Malone and Barkley, and some more find a way to play together and win it all. I don't know if NBA is close to rock buttom, but maturity and fundamentals is what brought those players in the past two eras to play together as one. I have heard that Thomas hated Jordan in the past that he talk to some guys on that Olympic team to prevent Jordan from having the ball. But even him has to respect Magic and Bird, and prevented that scheme from escalating into something ugly. But Jordan was a pro, and he did not take that incident personally, at least I did not heard him moaning about it. Instead of going out on his usual ways in CHI by taking the ball and attack the rim, he holds himself back and understood that he is not in CHI anymore. At least he is not performing on his usual ways when he played in the Olympics. Back then, the best players in the NBA are honored to be in the olympics and committed to the Olympics. They don't need two years to build chemistry, they have so many epic battles in the season and playoffs against it's other that they have learned each others tendency, weakness and strength.

Now, it's all about me show. It's about families (yeah right, like Malone, Jordan, Barkley etc. never had one), NBA ring (sure, apparently Jordan and company view that event as a way to improve thier skills as they play together and learn from each other at least for that event). Most of them players in the Olympics back then carried thier team to the NBA finals, some of them won and some lost. I am not pissed of the NBA players of today declining offers to play in the Olympics, it's just give me more reason to abandon the NBA for good. NFL all the way.

I don't see how one group of players accepting has anything to do with these players not going.

                LMAO

are you seriously comparing fighting in Iraq to playing for the US Men's Basketball team?

anyway, as far as people being upset at the players for not wanting to play, all i can say is get over it. they have no obligation to play, and if they don't want to play, that's their choice. i'd rather have players on the team that truly want to be there anyway.

The players not going are lazy because they refuse to take an extra mile to represent the pride of the NBA. They all gave this reason about families, mistresses, ring and whatever reason and whatever excuse they could pull off thier tail where in reality they just wanted to stay at home sleep, party and whatever this rich dudes do. Unlike the best players in past 2 era.

i think it would be better to put together a team of Americans that consists of players who play overseas and are used to the international style of play......

It is a comparison between the best players of the past and the current best players that we have right now. Thier commitment and pride as NBA players to represent the NBA in it's true form (whatever it is now). Our best players today have far too many reason and excuses not to go, while the best players in the past 2 eras view that opportunity to improve thier skills and learn from each other as teammates for a short moment. I hear far too many excusses about not going because they focus on winning a championship ring, guess what, most of the players that went to the Olympics during Magic and Bird era as well as Jordan's era carried thier team to the finals. With that success, I don't really see any reason for this current players to refuse.

Oh, I don't even know the current rosters of POR. But I do know the rosters of the Seahawks. And I hate Zach Randolph, if he ever will be named for the Olympic team before Brand, the NBA really has hit rock bottom.

And the best players of SA at the same time to replace the DET rosters who will choose to represent Europe or whatever nation they came from.

                            Ben Wallace
                            Tim Duncan
Bruce Bowen/ Prince (either, they are both good defensively)
                            Rip Hamilton
                            Chauncey Billups

The Pistons are a team. You're not going to win any Olympics with a mish-mash of stars. It has to be a cohesive group that either:

Air Force plays much more cohesively than even the Pistons (who obviously are the best at in the NBA, however that isnt saying much)

plus, you arent going to find anybody who would have more pride than them.......
