Re: Is anyone else getting pissed off

It is still basketball. Its not like these babies are being asked to go over there with a rifle in hand and protect our freedom. They are being asked to play a couple games of basketball. You damn skippy, I'm pissed about this also.

Some of these posters in here are freakin out like, who are we to get pissed.

HAHA that cracks me up. All that tells me is that some of you don't have a clue what its like to help protect our way of life, you guys just take advantage of it. But then again, I am probably dealing with some 15 year olds.

Don't sweat it Mutumbo888, these tykes like to talk like they know about life.

    As least give 'em that.

Hey NCoffey, don't give me this vacation crap. Most of these guys are out of the league in 10 years...yeah that's right 10 years...with millions (if they are smart) put away for the future. Then at the ripe old age of 35, they can take a PERMANENT vacation.

Name another job, that isn't a professional sport, where you can work only 8-12 years and then retire before 35?? With more money than they can ever think of. Yeah, I feel real bad for them. All they have to do is play a few extra basketball games every 4 YEARS!! Peeps are dying over seas and these bitches are complaining about extra bball??? hahhaaha

Sorry, I didn't realize I was striking nerves...but say these "bitches" do go end up playing and get hurt during the 2 years of preparation or in the games, and end up ending their careers in doing so. Where is that 10 years? And you are assuming these guys are putting money away...that very well may be the case, but what about the ones that havent?

Also just curious, what profession are you in?

Whoever refuses to play for the USA should be booed every time they touch the ball during a NBA game.

I dont know if these players will play or not, but here's my team -

PG Chauncey Billups / Jason Kidd (or Baron Davis if Kidd is too old)
SG Ray Allen / Dwayne Wade / Tracy McGrady
SF Kobe Bryant / Lebron James / Bruce Bowen
PF Kevin Garnett / Rasheed Wallace
C Amare Stoudamire / Ben Wallace

honorable mention - Brad Miller, Elton Brand, Richard Hamilton, Paul Pierce
How in the world is playing a game giving back to anybody? They can choose to do with their time what they want.

The guys on that team were not the best the US had to offer and some of the best players didn't even get a chance to play(Lebron).

You gotta relax...i rather have players who want to play than be forced because they "have to." I don't think tis the players faults its who's running it makes a difference, we have all the talent in the world to pick anybody in the nba to make a gold team. We need the organization, coaching and chemistry to make it work.
Olympics is a little different. I don't know what the deal with that is but they do play in the World Cup and many other tournaments that lead up to it which amounts to a lot more than the Olympicds. Its a matter of pride to represent your country in most cases and people only "retire" from international competition when they get older or start to have injuries.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

Now, they are not serving like the military is, but in some ways they are. Sports unites the nation in times of need, just look at 9/11 and the nfl, or other countries around the globe and the world cup. I cant think of anything i would rather do, if i had the ability, than to win the gold at the olympics. Many of these players have no chance at ever winning an nba title, and should be grateful they are selected as one of the best players in the country to represent the USA. What if all of our best atheltes chose not to compete? Would we be considered the powerhouse of sports that we are today? of course not, but those that have travelled the road before and allowed us to become what we are should not be disgraced this way. NBA stars have become selfish, and need to evaluate whats more important in life; a trip to the bahamas, or the pride of your nation.
It's pretty amazing to me that people care this much. As far as the salaries go, they only get paid so much because so many people spend money on sports. If nobody supported the sports then their salaries would be much lower, which is why in the early years of professional sports the players weren't rich.

Are you fighting in Iraq right now representing the USA? No? Then maybe you should lighten up. If your not willing to dedicate four years of your life to represent our country, then how you can you criticize someone else, even if it's strictly profession based? I think your being a bit hypocritical.

why is this a big deal.

Question: As an NBA player, would you rather win a championship ring or Olympic medal?

                      All would say ring.

Agreed. Easily a ring, thats what everyone who plays or wants to play in the NBA dream of having, even if they already have one.

Yea, for soccer players the Olympics, while prestigious, isn't even the biggest international tournament around, not even the second biggest.

The Olympic Basketball tournament is the biggest international event in basketball, and while I feel that these players should be honored and give all they have to the National team, they do still have the right to opt not to.
