    Re: Jalen to Knicks

I think this basically comes down to the fact the Knicks are cornered into winning now with their first round pick going to Chicago next year and Chicago able to swap their 1st with NY's if NYs is lower the following year. Not that I would count on isiah going the smart route and rebuilding if he did have his 1sts, but thats the way I see it.

New York has to win now and this trade makes them better (though Im not sure its very much).

For Toronto, they get a lot of cap space this summer to add some players and make Chris Bosh feel like they have a future. They give up a mid-to-late 1st assuming its the Denver pick, but I think it could be worth it if Toronto makes a splash.

I think the knicks are going to make another trade. It seems like they have too many perimeter players. AGAIN

As a Raptors fan, I was pretty ticked when my buddy told me about the trade, but this could give Toronto significant cap space for thist summer, with Lamond Murray's contract up as well. I knew Rose was way overpaid, but didn't know he was finishing his contract at almost 17 million.

That said, I'm not sure this really helps the franchise. What can Toronto really do with all that space? Are there really any decent guys that will be attracted to the city enough to sign as a FA, without maxing them out? Maybe I'm missing something, but I think I'd rather have more youth than what wil likely be a grossly overpaid role player.

I'd prefer to have cap room. I think the Raptors will continue to build through the draft. I don't expect major names coming to T.O. but I do expect Mike James to be re-signed and bringing in some 2nd tier players who can fill a void in experience and role playing ability.

It will be VERY interesting to see if the Raptors re-sign Mike James as Bosh basically said he wants James re-signed.

Um, didn't Rose play under Brown early in his career?

Cap room can always be used in trades.

The only big name FA after this season is Ben Wallace. I have a hard time picturing him leaving the Pistons.

The Raps need to use the cap space to get a big man that can rebound, block shots, and play D.

But the Raps are at a point where they have to please Bosh. He went public about wanting to see the team re-signing James. If the Raps don't do this he's not going to be a happy camper. The Raps are screwed if Bosh wants to leave once he becomes a FA.

After watching James play this season, I have a hard time disagreeing with Bosh.

The Raptors remind me of the Bulls a few years back..

They got all that cap space to make a run at T-Mac, Duncan, Hill, etc. and failed to land any of them.

                              .
The good thing in all this is that James doesn't strike me as a guy who'd take the money and turn to crap. He has a good work ethic and seems to really like Toronto.

The bigger sticking point is that Bosh ALSO wants Sam Mitchell to stay on as coach. I'm glad Bosh is not the typical primadonna player as I can see the new GM explaining things to him and the Raptors hiring a better coach.

I think keeping James is more important for keeping Bosh then Mitchell.

That's actually not something I had thought of, as I had written off the possibility of re-signing him long ago. Interesting point for sure. However, if they do give James money, I'm imagining he's going to want long-term pay based on his performance this year, but with him turning 31 this summer, he's probably not going to have many more years like this one.

From a business point of view, the trade makes perfect sense, but as a fan, my concern for the team's bottom line is pretty limited, and I'm very skeptical of what they're capable of bringing in on the open market.
