I don't think anyone should question whether or not Bron should turn pro. Its a no brainer! He will be the best player in the NBA real soon. I think he has the best chance of being named the best player to ever play the game by the time his career is over. Its not a matter of if he'll be better than Jordan, Kobe, etc., its a matter of how much better he'll be than them. He can do everything they can do right now at 17 years old. Damn, watch out!

Yes, I do think "And 1" is dumb, but I will admit some of the stuff they do is funny. But, I'm not worried about that because only one of those guys has made the NBA and he got cut this past summer in favor of a Division 2 player. (In fact, I'm going to see him tonight, I hate that kid.)
The point of this was that more high schoolers need to go to college, even if just for 2 years. Their funamentals would rise and they would be more polished to make an impact their first year out. Kobe and Tmac took 3 years to become the players they are today. Heck, I didn't even know who McGrady was until that playoff series with the Knicks the year Carter disappeared 3 years ago. Now am I saying Kobe and Tmac should have gone to college, NO. They are exceptions though, not the rule. Lebron also should skip college, he is ready. Plus, I bet he hasn't lifted a book yet this school year with all the hype, so he'd be ineligible anyways. But, the others that are considering it like, Kendrick Perkins, should go to school. Those are my thoughts and I'm sticking to it. Call me old school, but the NBA was a better place before the expansion of '88.

Give me a reason why a highschooler shouldn't skip college. If you want to polish your game, then the NBA is the best place to be. It's not as if college has some special techniques that magically make you a better basketball player. Anything you can learn in college you can just as easily learn in the NBA. I believe if you have the talent then you should go. And if you don't have the talent but people think you do then you should go, before people realize you're a fraud. College will always be there if you want to go back. With the money these guys make that won't be a problem even if they are out of the league after 3 years. Also just because these athletes are enrolled in college doesn't mean that they are actually achieving any higher learning. It just means that their university is making millions of dollars off of them without the attraction, the player getting his slice of the pie. Now, your contention that basketball was better in the 80's may be a valid point, but wouldn't that be attributed to the coaches and general managers who consistently pick the "less skilled" players? I think that you should take a look at some of these players and realize that they would be freaks of nature if they did some of the things they are doing now, back in the 80's. For example, imagine Mcgrady of Kobe against the old Celtics. Who would guard them? I think we are simply seeing the growing pains of the next step in the evolution of basketball with these men who are 6'8" and can do it all. My point is that the game itself is different, so you can't look at it in the same way as you did before.

Re: Lebron James game vs. Oak Hill

Are you predicting career-ending injuries for Harrington and Miles or something?? I'd be surprised if Harrington doesn't make an all-star game in five years. There's no way he's out of the league. And, Miles has freakish raw ability. He's already a starter averaging 11 PPG. I guarantee they are both in the league in five years. Please watch Harrington, man, he is going to be a star.

Diop is improving...it's too early to say if he'll last, though. However, the fact is Diop was the #8 pick and will make roughly $2 million for 3 seasons and he's likely to stick around for at least 2 seasons after that even if he hasn't shown much because of his youth. I'd guess the Cavs exercise their team option on the 4th season unless he shows absolutely no progress. So, you're talking at about $8 million. If he went to college and made $50,000 per year on a "real" job, he'd never make that $8 million. So, tell me again, why would he want to work a hard job, make less money, and struggle for four years at college?

The great thing about this game is you'll see how much better he is than all of these other players. Oak Hill has probably 5 of the Top 100 Seniors and I'm willing to bet money Akron wins this year, I can see Lebron having a triple double because he always plays well against Oak Hill.

Oak Hill beat Lima Sr (one of the better teams in Ohio this year Div 1) by 30 last weekend, I live 20 miles north of Lima.

Just for the record I don't think Lebron James was even the most complete player in the state last year, Robert Hite (signed with Miami FL) looked at about the same level. Just without the height or shot blocking ability.

Wow, this is wrong in so many ways. I apologize in advance b/c I just don't have the time debate this one with you but there are so many reasons a hs kid should go to college...even if they are as good as Labron. It's not just about the skill.

Re: Lebron James game vs. Oak Hill

My thought on this is why is there such a big uproar about kids playing basketball going straight to the pros when, kids in other sports do it all the time? I mean I have not heard this much debate concerning 16 year old kids playing tennis with only a tutor being the closest they will ever come to a school. Or the hundreds of high school kids who forego college to play minor league baseball with no promise of making it to the big show.

I mean you go to college to get a good paying job, right? Well, the NBA is one of the best paying jobs out there if you can make it. I just feel that you should not force a kid to go to college when chances are they will not be interested and will be wasting a free education anyway. True enough, there are some kids who have misjudged their talent but that is a decision they made and they will have to live with it. I say let these kids make their own decisions and whatever happens let them learn from it.

Well, I feel sorry for those that misjedge their talents. The thing with other sports is that there is a minor league for those that do come out too early. In basketball there wasn't an "official" minor league until last year. If a golfer comes out too early there are tons of tours he can play on that are directly tied to the PGA tour. In tennis, there is a "challengers" circuit that is directly tied to the ATP. In baseball, teams are directly affiliated with major league teams. Football, no one really comes out too early so far. So, there is a difference between other sports and basketball. Now, with the new NBDL, hopefully these kids who misjudge their talents will have some place to go. If that happens, then this issue will be moot.
