I didn't read the whole thread but, I'm LOVING the rule. My main problem is, though...is that if they're going to have such a short leash with techs and stuff then they better shore up the horrible officiating so the players have nothing to complain about.

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
I wish people would stop coming in here comparing the rules of the NBA to the NFL. The NFL has nothing to do with this.
This tech rule is the result of a commissioner gone wild. Unchecked power and the players association needs to do something because they're surely losing any voice they have.
I would tend to agree with this in part and say that as a result of a man gone mad IMO he's all but insured the demise of what was once one of the greatest entertainment products the Free world had ever seen and now it seems its all been for not an only an illusion of what this mad man envisions he truly has been chipping away at the integrity of the league for sometime now and so here we are.
It just isn't fun anymore or it won't be as entertaining, I foresee in the future as I am now a wittness to with this most horrible of rules theres just not enough words to describe just how awful, discouriging and controlling this kind of thing is however there was a simular time in the history of the world when men with horrible visions almost destroyed an entire way of life and culture I'll leave it up to you to figure out who they are I'm not saying he's one of them but this just isn't right in a free country with different expressions, ideas thoughts and ways to express them guranteed in writing no doubt.
Of course there are limits so enforce them wisely and fairly but this rule can and will most likely be interpeted the wrong way, it is flawed and unfair to say the least there are just too many styles and ways of interpetation a ref can judge you by and they're refs not judges so wheres the line and who are they to judge such emotions that at times are after all childish in nature and within the confines of the game alot of it is shear passion and competiveness?
Its almost non feeling for such a passionate game cold distant and non yielding for a person of fate to be controlled or punished for non complence almost like the Borg but fear not the powers that be may still find error in this most flawed effort to control true heart felt emotions and passions for a simple but yet complex game if only they'd stop and re-evaluate its true and intended purpose.
This is not the way to do it and I fear the worst is yet to come...then maybe not but I've a bad feelin' about all of this and it doesn't feel right being that this all started out as a simple game with a peach basket played with spirit and a passion now its being drained in a battle for control of the on court product and money that happens to be human beings, men of such a passion and commitment who do still dream of playing this simple yet ever changing game influenced by power, money and contol of the product...that being the men who actually play the game this truley indeed appears to be a somber time for us all but putting on a game face is all that can be done for now and crying out FOUL about this rule or whatever its masking itself as it must and should be challenged some how some way its just gone too far and is out of control taking more away from the game then any one of us can imagine...next thing those smiles will be banned and glaring looks with cost a penalty also...it only take one look then it could be all over...just a look...a glance and your fate and mine will soon end in slience...or the showers depending on how you "Look" at it.
These are just my personal thoughts and only an expression of one individual please don't throw me under the bus I'm speaking from a true passion for the game I've come to know and love as the one of my youth so to the powers that be give back the game and leave it alone its done you no harm and has made you rich beyond your wildest dreams so why do this?
The guys playing are not evil men and still play with heart at least most of them do and did as children with dreams of one day playing on this greatest of stages so why do this they've done you no real harm give the game back to the fans of the game.

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
Exactly. Players have been doing this for years, and all of a sudden the NBA wants to cut it all out?
I knew this crap was gonna happen. And it's gonna get worse as the season goes on.
And, when guys like DWade and Bron get tossed out and fans get pissed, what's the League gonna do?Comment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
For all you who "love" this new rule, answer me this--do you want the players to play without any emotion? To just coast through the games and not put any heart into it?
I love it when players show emotion. It shows they're really into the game and want to win.
So many fans complain about players not giving it their all and taking off plays, but now you love it that they can't show emotions?
Man, f*ck the refs. They think they're bigger than the game. Always have. The fans come to see the players, not the refs putting their marks on the game.Comment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
YP, not problems with your post at all.
One thing, like ehh stated, all Nocioni did was signal that he was hit on the arm when he shot the basketball and he got a tech.
That was totally uncalled for. I've seen more calls just the same since preseason.
The thing that bothers me is, the referees have been a problem in the nba for some time now. One day they call the game tight, the next they allow one team to be more liberal in play while whistling the other team.
The inconsistency and discretion of the refs due to their own emotion gets out of hand sometimes. You've seen crucial games blown by refs in the post season by awful calls.
This isnt a matter of psychology. I dont want to pay my good money to see the players become robots. Sure they need to play, but at the same time there arent a bunch of rasheed wallaces playing.
Teching guys up for hand signals are insane. Melo was ejected early which ruined the teams chances by a star player.
Sure this rule may shut Mark Cuban up in one avenue since fines didnt work, but at the same time, don't expect everyone to pull a calmness switch and play intensly at the same time all in one shot.
Its going to take time and the refs should use their discretion knowing this. I know I dont want to see the playoffs where none of the players can say anything. I'd be a fool to sit here and tell you that Im at home not saying a word, calmly staring at the tv when I see a blatantly bad call. If its not east at home, its surely that much harder actually in the game.
Thank you, K. I couldn't agree more.Comment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
I think that a player should be able to show some emotion without looking like a whiny bitch by complaining about calls. Go talk to refs like a normal person, but don't go all 5-year-old on them.Comment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
Well, I dunno about you, but I've seen many a WR and DB arguing for pass interference calls each week, QBs pleading their case on intentional grounding, defenders having something to say about penalties on QB hits, and players objecting to questionable calls in general. It happens in every league.
Beat me to it. I don't know what NFL games Madden's watching, but I see NFL players bitch as much as NBA players.Comment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
Thing is though, none of the players who've been ejected have acted like that, and they STILL got kicked out.
That is bullsh*t.Comment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
I like the idea of cutting down the whiners, but the way they implemented this rules was all wrong. It does give the refs way too much power, and they are already abusing that power. I also agree that the best thing in the world for the NBA to do is follow the path of the NHL, but as someone said earlier, they are waaaay to money hungry to even consider it.Comment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
Maybe there really pushing it hard now, but hopefully they will calm down as the season goes on, but if the refs are this sensitive all year, games are going to be decided because players are going to be ejected, and be ejected for showing hand gestures, or yelling out frustration.
I just don't know how a player can hold it in like that especially during the heat of a game and how much the crowd pump players upComment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
I agree Matrix, but if you saw last nights game, Utah vs Phx, you woulda flipped your lid when you saw how Amare and Marion got a tech for making small hand gestures after some questionable calls. They didn't talk to the ref, or even looked at them and they got T'ed up. Amare just yelled out "Oh!" from frustration and got T'ed up!

And therein lies the problem.
So you're telling me they're going to be inconsistent with the way they call the game, then their reactionary technicals are being hammered on players because they also get emotional trying to tame players like animals?
Dont sit here and tell me this is what the fans are asking for because its far from it and out of touch with what the fans are leaving the nba for in the first place.Last edited by 23; 11-04-2006, 08:18 PM.Comment

Re: Ejections: What are your thoughts?
It's a vaild point, Dre. You're absolutely right in that regard. The problem with this rule is that it's fixing one part but it's not fixing the root of the problem. I'm loving it for the fact that its actually curbing what it's supposed to be curbing, but in a broader sense, it allows the refs to continue sucking at their job by making bad calls.
This is why Stern sucks. They need to revamp the whole damn system.Comment
