Re: Vote for 2006-7 MVP Here
Tracy McGrady (2002-2003): 32.1 ppg (45.7%), 6.5 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.6 spg, 0.8 bpg, 2.6 TO. Led the league in scoring, Rockets were a #8 seed.
Kobe Bryant (2006-2007): 31.6 ppg (46.3%), 5.7 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.4 spg, 0.5 bpg, 3.31 TO. Led the league in scoring, Lakers are a #7 seed.
Never been done? T-Mac had arguably a better season and did not win the MVP. Kobe Bryant scored alot of points against mediocre teams, but he still averaged less than McGrady which means he scored far less against the good teams if he was stylin on the crappy ones.
Thing is, when Kobe does this stuff, he's the second coming. Anyone else? Nah.Comment

Re: Vote for 2006-7 MVP Here
Someone asked why anyone would vote or Lebron, well I did, and it's because if you go by who is the most irreplaceble to their team. It's him. If you put another good point guard in Phoenix, they still have a good record. T-Mac came on late in the season and put up good numbers, but Yao was the man for the first quarter of the season, and looked like he was going to have an MVP type season before getting hurt, I think that hurts Mcgrady's chances. Dirk, who I believe will win the award, got a lot of help from Terry and Howard all year. I agree he put up a great year, and they had the best record, but if Garnett, or Brand had the supporting cast, they'd be in the same discusion.Comment

Nash on the other hand cannot be replaced by just another good point guard. Name one that is just as unselfish, a dead-eye shooter, and is truly an extension of his coach? Kidd is 2 of those 3, and playing the Phoenix style would cause his knees to let him down after 82 games rendering him useless in the playoffs. Baron (flavor of the month) Davis, maybe. But then again he is not an extension of his coach, and I don't think he could be as selfless as Nash over the course of the entire season. Not to mention the breakdown factor.
Lets all keep in mind that MVP is not a theory, it’s an award given based on excellence over the course of the entire season. With that in mind it really is only a 2 horse race, Dirk v. Nash. Both are worhy and I can't wait to see who the "experts" claim. Sorry Kobe fans, exellence is more than 42 wins.Last edited by aa2ba; 04-24-2007, 04:43 PM.Comment

Re: Vote for 2006-7 MVP Here
I am sorry but your argument is flawed. Nash is more valuable then Lebron. James has coasted for most of the year. You could put VC, Kobe, T-Mac, in his spot and the team would have done well too. You could make the claim that Lebron is more valuable, but when hes not giving maximum effort for the majority of the season, how is he considered valuable?

The only guys I can see doing what Nash is doing (or something similar) is Deron Williams, or Chris Paul. But neither of them come close to being the shooter that Nash is.Comment

I'm not disputing the claim, but does he need to publicly state this? They were discussing how back in the old days, nobody felt the need to say these things. Personally, I would be pissed if Steve Nash ever said anything like that. Marion already made stupid comments about even considering joining a lesser team just to get MVP consideration without considering the fact that he cannot create offense for himself.Originally posted by EWRMETSMaybe the best post in OS's history.
