Stoudamire calling out dirty play of the Spurs

Watching SC this morning, had some quotes about Stoudamire claiming Bowen PURPOSELY kicked him in the back of his Achilles and Ginobili kneeing him in the crotch PURPOSELY.

    Commence arguments.

It's a pretty well known fact around the NBA that the Spurs are a relatively dirty team, especially Bowen.

Bowen's as dirty as it gets. Famous for the "kick" defense when guys take jumpers. He's nailed Ray Allen, Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford among others, all on Youtube. And his recent, blatant kick of Amare, I don't get it!

I used to love the Spurs when David Robinson played. What happened.

He definitely kicked him in that video, there's no arguing that.

Here's the clip of Bowen kicking Amare:

            <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sc4yz__akIU"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sc4yz__akIU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I hate Bowen. He's a "crafty" defender, but I'm surprised the NBA's never looked into any of these incidents. I woulda figured after the fourth or fifth victim, somebody gets suspicious. He's gotten Wally (karate kick to the head), VC, Ray, Jamal Crawford, Steve Francis, Amare, etc,..

Ok, I can see Bowen being called out, but is the same indication of Ginobili valid? Maybe Bowen is just bitter over too many Hootie references?

Does he get suspended for that?

I mean... If Kobe gets suspended by swinging his arms...?

I have to say, if he doesn't get suspended for that, then something is wrong w/ the league. That is absolutely ridiculous, and there is no reason for stupidity like that in the NBA.

Re: Stoudamire calling out dirty play of the Spurs

You know, as a Suns fan, I am just as appalled by Bowen's kick as I am by Stoudemire's grammar. That is some deliberately dirty pool.

Now, as far as calling out the entire team... boy, I dunno, Amare. Besides, isn't Manu more of a slapper? I digress. Every year, in every sport, at least one player or coach complains during the playoffs about a team or player pushing a boundary which league officials seem to ignore. It's a recurring plotline, like how almost every boot-camp movie resembles Full Metal Jacket.

But the NBA will not suspend Bowen. Let me repeat that.

The NBA will not suspend Bowen. Through several degrees of sources, Stu Jackson has reportedly reviewed the Amare incident and decided that no action was necessary (as seen on espn.com) The league appears to be saying, "No harm, no foul." And in a way, I think they're right.

What they should examine, though, is whether or not to keep repeat offenders like Bowen on very short leashes. Behavior like his during a playoff series is inexcusable, and with kick-throwin' Bowen's history, it's amazing that he's allowed to stay in the league in the first place. But then, league has a history of dirty players (Malone, Laimbeer, et al.), and as long as these players continue to grab headlines and boost the NBA's ratings, the league will continue to allow dirty players to play.

If Bowen could put up 10-20 more points a night, I'd bet the league would even let him challenge Malone's hospitalizations record.

Regardless, you can be sure Bowen's behavior will be under the microscope throughout this series.

If they suspend Kobe for flailing his arms... and don't suspend Bowen for actually kicking someone... then that is the worst double standard I have seen. This is absolutely pathetic if no action is taken.

oh well we have the suns right where we want them.

Soft? You call a guy blatantly kicking a guy soft? That's sheer ignorance on Bowen's part, and on the League's part if they let him get away with it. I know you're a Spurs fan, but dang man... open those eyes. I like the Spurs as much as any other team out there, but that act was sheer ignorance and absolutely dirty. There is no excuse for that, and it shouldn't be tolerated.

As far as I am concerned, Bowen did nothing out of the ordinary. Heck I did not even realized Bowen kicks like a girl nowadays with Amare still standing after that. Now that kick he did on (I think) Harpring was an instant classic. Violence is what makes sports exciting. Now if only we can convince Kurt Thomas to break Duncan's leg and Bowen will retaliate by breaking Amare's ankle. Now we will have ourselves a bloody game equivalent to the NY-MIA rivalry. We will see D'Antoni holding Duncan's leg while Duncan is trying to get rid of him like a leech. If only this will happen, no one will call PHX soft ever again. If PHX will indeed transform into a physical and dirty team, DAL can seal thier hope of getting past by them healthy. I'll stop now with my sick old school NBA fantasy.
