Barkley said on his preview show that Kobe is a fine player, but he does not make the players around him better. In other words, he does not raise the level of his teammates. BTW, Charles, Tim, Sean, and others have agreed that Tim Duncan is the most Dominant player of the game right now as I have said REPEATLY. He affects both sides of the ball, defense and offense. If you want to win a championship, you must be able to have a consistent post up player. Duncan is that and more. Garnett is one my favorite player, but he doesn't want to bang down low every night. Thus, they are perimeter team that will not go far in the playoffs.

yup, TD definitely looked like the best player in the NBA during the playoffs last year when Kobe just took 4 games away from him in the 4th quarters. Honestly, Duncan is wicked, but not quite on Kobe's level.

I don't think it really matters what team a player plays on. If you raise the level of your teammates play, you can do that anywhere, with anyone. I think Kobe definitely doesn't do it like Mike did, but he is getting better. He gives them open looks, that they can't hit, and he creates a lot of things for everyone. He's just got to learn how to use that more. That's ok though. Just give him time, he's only 24. I don't remember MJ raising his teammates play at 24. It wasn't until he was around 27-29 did he start doing that.

As for TD, that man is awesome. He is so solid it's scary. Even when he plays bad, he plays good. He's going to be one of the greatest ever at PF. He might even pass Karl Malone for that honor one day, if he plays long enough.

        <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I think for the most part people aren't fond of him because he is one of very few players who has the ability to become the next MJ. He is developing nearly every tool necessary, and hell, he's only 24!

IMO, Kobe and Duncan are two of few players who have the ability to revolutionize their position.

I may not be a Lakers fan, and Kobe isn't my favorite player, but damn, give his his props.

About revolutionizing, I think most of the players in this generations players are doing that at nearly every position, except maybe point guard. TMac and Kobe are taking the 2-guard up there. Not Mike level yet, but they're so damn young, and we're already comparing. Crazy. The 3 spot is being totally changed with swingmen like KG and Dirk. There have never ever been players like that before. Such tall and talented 3's are great to have. The 4 is also there with TD and CWebb. Those guys are as talented as they come. TD has a good advantage on CWebb though. CWebb has been in the L a long time, and only in the last several years has he really earned that superstar title. While TD came out of the gates hard and fast. The center spot, Yao. Need I say anymore? The reason I say the PG spot isn't really being changed is because we've pretty much seen all the PG's that's every been. The real last change there was Magic. At 6'9", and handles that could beat most PG's out there today, he had it all.

Re: Barkley, with a great take on Kobe Bryant

when you're injured, especially legs, knees, ankles, it effects you much more when you have to react to others' movements vs concentrating on making your own moves. That's why you can see people jumping without realizing how much it's going to hurt when they come down or running full speed even though it's going to make it worse. Injuries always hurt more on defense, and even more when off the court b/c you're not focusing 100% on doing something like on offense.
