The only thing is that KG has a strong impact on D (not as much as Big-Ben but he gets it done) but his offensive contributions can't be matched (maybe only by T-Mac but his team aint winning so...). That is why I feel KG, Iverson, and Duncan have an edge on Ben. Just IMO

Oh I don't think there's any way in hell Ben will get it. But it would be nice if he did.

What's the percentage of All-Star game MVPs going on to win the league MVP? That'd be an interesting stat.

Ok, I got an answer for you. I've done some research and I've found some numbers. I've checked Regular Season MVP, All-Star MVP, and Finals MVP. The Regular Season MVP started in 1956, so I'll start there for comparisons with that. Finals MVP started in 1969, so my comparisons for that will start then. Here it goes.

Regular Season / All-Star MVP's
14 times in the 47 years has the reg and all-star MVP's been the same. (well, you can actually count it as 46, since in 1999, there was no all-star game, but that's just a technicality)
14/47 = 0.2978 = 29.78% of the all-star MVP's are the regular season ones.

Regular Season / Finals MVP's
A whoppin 12 times in the 34 years since that award has been given out.
12/34 = 0.3529 = 35.29%

All-Star / Finals MVP's
3 times out of 34 years. Twice by MJ('96 &amp; '98), and once by Shaq('00).
3/34 = 0.0882 = 8.82%

Regular Season / All-Star / Finals MVP's
2 times out of 34 years. Once by MJ ('98) and once by Shaq ('00)
2/34 = 0.0588 = 5.88%


So, as you can see, this really means nothing. These numbers don't say a damn thing other than the fact that it's pretty hard to get all 3.

I haven't read anything in this thread, but here is my 2 cents:

MVP should be re-defined, and there should be 2 awards. There should be an MVP award for the player that is most valuable to their team, and their should be a Player of the Year award, the player with the best stats or whatever. Kevin Garnett is easily the MVP of this season, and the Player of the Year...I don't know, my top 4 are Kobe, T-Mac, Duncan, and Garnett...all having superstar years...but KG is definetly the most valuable to his team, leading his team to the playoffs almost single handed, in the western conference...
