This isn't about comparing UNC NBAers to Duke guys. UNC wins hands down. But to say that Duke doesn't produce solid and sometimes high quality NBA stars is inaccurate to say the least.
Can we close the book on JJ Redick?

Re: Can we close the book on JJ Redick?
Oh you left out Danny Ferry, Bob Hurley, Laettner, Cherokee Parks, Corey Maggette and Trajon Langdon. Laundry list of failures. And I will give you Luol Deng. He seems solid, but 2 or 3 in a 20+ year run is a joke. Need I list the Heels who have prospered in the NBA? A better question is do we have enough time to list them all?Comment

Re: Can we close the book on JJ Redick?
Laettner was an NBA All Star with the Hawks. He was drafted by the then 1 year old Timberwolves and for his most effective years was that teams only star.
As for UNC "preparing them to pay for play"...your right, one on one, "and1" mixtape BS...that the NBA LOVES is right up Vince Carters alley...most in the know wouldnt want that guy on their team, but hell hes good for a couple of Sportscenter slams a night so that makes him an NBA AllStar. I am a huge Duke fan, so give me my Devils over Wallace, Carter, McInnis, Zwikker anyday.
To close, if you have such a "laundry list" of great UNC players, and Dukes are so overrated, how come Duke has owned UNC since the early 90's...how many ACC Championships did all that talent get you? Scholarship athlete is a hypocrisy, but Duke does have higher entrance standards than NC, most of UNCs "scholarship student athletes" couldn't find Durham on a map, much less attend school there.Comment

Re: Can we close the book on JJ Redick?
Everything thinks Laettner was some huge bust for some reason, even though he played in an All-Star game and was a very good player for the Hawks back in the 90's, makes no sense to me. I hate Duke too, but to call Laettner a bust just because he went to Duke is ludicrous.
I say give JJ 1 or 2 more years to develop some more. But I still think the best he'll ever be is a 7th or 8th man who comes off the bench to knock down some 3's, never a solid starter or scorer.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
NBA: Dallas Mavericks

Re: Can we close the book on JJ Redick?
Never thought he would be very good NBA player.
Coach K made him look better than he was while he was in College. Running him through 3 or 4 picks every play and always putting him on the other teams worst offensive player.
Now that he is not the focus of his teams offense and has to create his own shot, his weaknesses in his game are coming out.
Why is anyone even expecting anything out of this guy? He's a college player and that's it.
The book should have been closed the day he graduated. I know I closed it."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

That is not true. I know from firsthand experience that Duke can get in the athletes they really want.Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.Comment

Re: Can we close the book on JJ Redick?
I think the combination of being from Duke and being a first round draft pick of the Orlando Magic (Courtney Alexander, Ryan Humphrey, Reece Gaines, Steven Hunter, Jerryl Sasser, Fran Vazquez) is not looking like a good sign for JJ.
I was pissed that we didn't draft Ronnie Brewer or Rodney Carney... looking like I was right for being pissed.Comment

Re: Can we close the book on JJ Redick?
but back on redick, I dont kno who said he will be so good...he isnt athletic nor can he create his own shot....but put him in a right role he will be a nice role player, but not a 1st round pick atleast not that highLast edited by Jukeman; 12-15-2007, 03:08 PM.Comment

Re: Can we close the book on JJ Redick?
This topic is ridiculous. No other word to use here.
He's been injured both years and is just coming off of another. When he gets decent minutes, he plays very well, and averaged 11-12 ppg off the bench when he played more than 20 minutes. One of the best shooters to ever play basketball and you want to close the book on him? Please. He's amazing, yet people still post stuff like this.Comment
