Thoughts? I'll post mine later once I actually have some time to digest what he is saying

      ROFL @ Gilbert

I agree 100% with him too. He says what we are all thinking. No way Calderon deserves to be an All Star

Calderon for the All Star game is like 2 or 3 years ago when there was "outrage" that Drexel or Drexler or some school didn't make the tournament. If a few people say it enough times, others will start saying it.

Yeah, I just finished reading Gil's blog. I never read blogs, but Gil's is absolutely hilarious. He keeps it so real. And he's hilarious.

Im a massive raptor fan, And I gotta agree with him Jose only drives off the screen never takes people off the dribble, So hes no all star YET, But Gill gets a little carried away I dont know what games hes watching man but jose is a STARTER. Hes not a back up PG you dont compare him to Kevin ****in Ollie thats brutal. Jose would probably start on most teams in the L.

Re: Calderon no All-Star according to Gil

Full disclosure: I'm a Raptor fan, but I don't think Calderon should be an all-star. But I do think he should be in the conversation.

First of all, comparing him to Kevin Ollie is so illogical and flawed, it's downright moronic. The only thing Calderon and Ollie have in common is that they've both led the league in AST/TO ratio. Calderon doesn't just lead in AST/TO, his ratio is downright silly. It's almost double Ollie's career AST/TO. Plus, Calderon plays far more minutes than Ollie ever has in any season of his career and actually plays against starters, not just scrubs.

He then goes on to talk about Jamison and his double doubles. Jamison has 29point/rebound double doubles in 50 starts. Calderon has 19 point/assist double doubles in 35 starts. Those are practically identical percentages, and you could make the case the point/assist double doubles are more difficult or rare than point/rebound double doubles.

He says Jamison is 1 of 5 players in the NBA averaging 20/10. If we're going to create arbitrary groups like that, Calderon is 1 of 5 players in the NBA averaging 15/9 as a starter along with Kidd, Nash, Paul and Deron. What about that Calderon is on pace to join Nash, Nowitzki, Mark Price and Bird as the only players in NBA history to shoot 50/40/90?

Why is Jamison the barometer for being an all-star anyways?

There are ways to make the case that Calderon should not be an all-star. Arenas' case is not one of them.

Anyways, Raptors fans in general seem to have a massive inferiority complex (you still hear scattered boos when Damon Stoudamire comes to town, even though his trade was over 10 years ago now), so this should just cause Arenas to get booed next time he shows up to the ACC.

Somewhat off topic, but what Gil said about Calderon playing in the rookie/soph game (if he was eligible) made me wonder: do rookies make the All-Star team? Is there a rule in place against that? I remember Jordan getting frozen out of the offense in his first All-Star appearance, but I can't remember if he was a rookie or not.

There's not a rule in place against it, but since 90% of the "star" caliber players are either straight from HS or "one and done", it's unlikely that they'll be good enough to make the team. And in the recent years (last 10 or so), I believe the only player who's made it as a rookie was the only absolute star who stayed in college for a few years (Duncan).

Great averages, great PG skills, but as good a passer as he seems to be, he still doesn't have All-Star impact, IMO. The high shooting percentages is blunted a bit when you only take 10 shots or so per game and only 2 treys per game. Again, thats taken not made. Doesn't get to the FT line much either.

Great distributor and doesn't hurt you with a bunch of misses, very efficient, but definitly a questionable All-Star. How's his D? Only seen him a few times...
