Re: JJ Reddick...WTF Happened???...I Need To Know
Lol
I was just about to respond to that. You beat me to it.
But, yeah. It is not neccessary for JJ to be able to create his own shot. He just needs to be able to spot up and knock down open looks which he is plenty capable of doing.
On the lines of what superjames was saying, I think he would be very effective in knocking down open looks from other players penetration and double teams. I also feel like he would give players who get double teamed room to work with because no one is going to want to leave Redick open to double. So he would be a definite distraction on offense.
So I really don't see at all, why JJ would need to create his own shot. He's going to get open looks and all he has to do is knock them down. He's going to spread the floor because no one is going to want to leave him open.
It's just like DC said, he just needs to regain confidence and what myself and others have said, he needs to get playing time. Period.
I could definitely see games where JJ might go for 20 maybe even 30 on a really good night just off of jumpshots and good looks at the bucket.Comment

At the time, I thought it was a good draft choice because I thought he would feed of the double-teams that Howard would command. Ala Shaq and Dennis Scott back in the mid 90s. I think he can find a role in the league as a DS(Designated Shooter) ala Steve Kerr may not be with Orlando though. What happened to JJ Redick? The Magic drafted him.
Basically everyone that the Magic drafted in the past 10 years (besides Dwight) have turned out to be terrible.
We have some of the worst talent evaluators in the league. I remember watching JJ play his last collegiate game against LSU and have Garrett Temple, a protypical NBA guard, cover him and absolutely terrorize Redick. He couldn't get off a decent shot, even with the help of screens and multiple ball touches each possession.
I went to watch the 2006 draft at the TD Waterhouse Center with all my fellow Magic fans, and ended up booing for like 15 minutes because we passed up Ronnie Brewer and Rodney Carney for this Dukie bum. No handles, no defense, low basketball IQ, unathletic... it was pretty obvious this guy wasn't going to succeed in the league.Comment

Yeah. That was me--well the commercial for the better basketball videos that say JJ Redick is the greatest shooter of all time, which I always find funny everytime the commercial comes on...lol
But I have to totally agree with you about rhythm. Players struggle when they do not get consistent minutes and have no set role with the team. So of coarse JJ's percentages are going to be low. If he was getting consistent, extended minutes on the floor, I guarantee that his percentages would be much, much better.
If you look at players numbers over previous seasons, you will see a trend. The more minutes a player gets, the better his percentages. Vujacic's percentages increased once he began getting consistent minutes. So did Kapono's. Scola's play improved once he got into a consistent rotation. Monta Ellis has improved with increased, consistent minutes. You can probably trace this through the majority of players in the league.
So we should not be basing JJ's shooting skill on his percentages. It's just not fair.
Just as we shouldn't base his skills on what he did playing for the most hyped College Basketball team in the nation.
Edit- I know this was sarcasm... I just forgot to put a smiley."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Re: JJ Reddick...WTF Happened???...I Need To Know
This whole thread is a joke.
Anyone who says anything negative about him is completely ignorant and is only saying it because hating on Jonathan Clay is the "cool thing to do". The Magic coaching staff is beyond moronic. He averages 22 a game in summer league (I know, it's summer league, but it does take skill to score 22 on any level), 16-17 in the preseason, and whenever he's given 10+ minutes a game, he produces, yet they insist on sitting him on the bench. They're ruining him, and to me that's unacceptable.Comment

College standout who's game does not translate to the pro game ala Rodney Monroe from NC State, cant create own shot, no shot, unathletic, liability on defense"Another brick in the house"- Lloyd Carr after Michigan's victory over the Washington Huskies in the 2002-2003 season.Comment

Yep. He's pretty much a more glorified version of Trajan Langdon.
You would think the ACC's all-time leading scorer would have slightly more success or would at least play more, but I guess not since Orlando is doing just fine without him playing.I write things on the Internet.

Re: JJ Reddick...WTF Happened???...I Need To Know
He was his best shooting off screens. He was a rhythm shooter. As soon as he came off the screen, he'd square up, flick his wrist and in it went.
NBA teams just do go through all that trouble to get a player a shot unless their names are Reggie Miller or RIP Hamilton. It's simply because NBA players, a good amount of them at his position can create their own shots and don't need a rediculous amount of screens ran for them.Comment
