He was far from a waste. It was a steal at 11, I'm surprised he didn't go higher.

Also, just because he's white doesn't mean he's not athletic. I'm sick of hearing that from people. When he plays significant minutes, he produces. Look at the game logs, that's all you need to do. Your anti-J.J. bias is kind of sad considering it's preventing you from seeing the talent that he does have.

Redick a steal at 11. I barely follow basketball anymore, and even I find that ridiculous.

My intent of course wasn't to ruin my "reputation" on the forum, but this is one of the few things I feel strong about, and of course when you feel strong about something, you're going to stand up for it. I think I'm safe in saying that all the criticism he gets isn't fair and people act as if he's a bum who has never accomplished anything on any level, and that angers and annoys me. It's like all they see when they talk about him is a Duke uniform and automatically feel the need to say something negative, and that's not right. Even though he'll always be my favorite athlete ever, you could say something negative about any other Duke player (save Shavlik Randolph and Nick Horvath) and I would get annoyed also.

I want to start off saying that I am in NO WAY a huge fan of Redick. Not even much of a fan at all. Never really cared for Duke basketball. I just know that Redick was killin' it in college. His jumper was so pure and he had crazy range and could put up points in a hurry.

So...

While I don't think that JJ is the best shooter ever, I do feel like he is one of the most gifted shooters we've seen in a while.

Yes, I know he can't create his own shot, but all I really expect to see from him is taking open looks given to him from the other players on the court creating for him.

I know that he's lacking the concept of defense. But, I feel that it can only get better with time and minutes. As this is true about most players that come into the league. Korver, Nash, and Mike Miller were poor defenders we they entered the league as well. I don't see how he can play any worse than many other players such as Melo, or a defensive liability like Ben Gordon. Teams can make adjustments, and it's not like he's going to have to stop elite guards like Kobe or T-Mac every night.

So I've come to the conclusion that there are probably many teams that would take Redick. The Magic are not really in need of his services at the moment. That's the sole reason he's not playing. They are FOURTH in 3pt % just behind Phoenix, Toronto, and New Orleans. Gundy is also a more defensive minded coach, so that keeps JJ on pine even more.

The Magic just don't need JJ's shooting touch. But, I think that other teams would probably jump at the chance to pick him up, especially if they need to improve their three ball (Philly I see you).

I just want to see him get a shot. I want to see what he could do in the league.

JJ gets love and hits big time shots for me in my Magic Association on 2K8. In my last game with two minutes left I had a comfortable lead (84-67) with 2 minutes to play in the fourth against the Bulls. I decided to try and hit the 100 point mark, and JJ hit 6 three pointers in the final 2 to finish with 28 points on 8-11 shooting from the arc. I find he is pretty streaky, as some games he lights it up, while other times I try and limit his touches.

Again, they bring something to the table. Nash may be poor defensively, but he's probably the best offensive PG in the league. Melo is a top 5 SF in the league. Miller, Korver, and Gordon are actually elite shooters on an NBA level.

JJ brings nothing to the table except solid shooting. Solid shooting doesn't get on the court.

same old adage when referring to duke players. Unless you are a true athlete your skills in Coach K system won't equate to being sub-par and or even a star in the NBA, it's happened on numerous occasions. He has always said he likes to only recruit 4 year players rather than those he thinks can jump within 1 to 2 years of playing.

You're basically saying that Jonathan Clay is an average to below average shooter and his shooting skills have diminished because he doesn't play in the NBA. Great insight there.

Wow, I thought you were being sarcastic but you really think Jonathan Clay, as you so endearingly call him, is the most amazing player you've ever seen? I mean, I wouldn't close the book on him quite yet but his college skills obviously don't translate as well to the NBA game. The guys guarding him in college most of the time were his height or only a little taller. He was able to create open looks against them but in the NBA, every other swing is 6'7" with crazy wingspans. You can ramble on about his summer league amazingness all you want but the pure fact of it is that he hasn't been shooting well enough from 3 to offset his lack of skills in other aspects of the game. He has a suspect handle, not a good passer, barely adequate defender, poor rebounder. I imagine he'll adjust eventually because he is talented enough to adapt but the game he played in college is nowhere near suited for the NBA. You accuse everyone else in this thread of a Duke bias but I think your bias for him is far greater. Your argument that the Orlando Magic are out to get "Jonathan Clay" is just silly.
