Re: Which Players Have the Most Overrated POTENTIAL In The NBA???
While his Potential was overrated, he's pretty much fallen off the face of the Earth when it comes to having Potential. I'd say he is rated just right.
Everyone pretty much sees him for what he is, a dunker/shot blocker.Too Old To Game Club

He's a poor man's Alonzo Mourning. I'm sure that's where most people had him pegged.
Michael Beasley - He's going to end up being a tweener, Antwan Jamison clone.
Al Thorton, Marvin Williams and Thaddeus Young - All three are 6'8" - 6'10" Tracy McGrady-esque players. But, none of them display the scoring savvy and skill that Kevin Durant has (closest to T-Mac).San Antonio Spurs 5 - Time ('99, '03, '05, '07, '14) NBA Champions

Re: Which Players Have the Most Overrated POTENTIAL In The NBA???
Just wanted to comment on a few of the names that were thrown out:
Tyrus Thomas - I don't think anyone ever said he would be a superstar. This was his make or break year, and so far, he's proved himself not to be a bust. In his peak season, I see him averaging around 15, 9 and 2 blocks. As a Bulls fan, I actually wanted Roy that year, but we took Thomas...oh well, we got Rose now.
Greg Oden - Its too early to tell for him. Portland is bringing him along very slowly after coming off an injury, and they are already a good team without him...he just pushes them over the top. When he starts getting consistent minutes, I see him averaging about 15-20 points, 11-12 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Michael Beasley - He won't be able to show all his skills playing alongside an established superstar in Wade. Had the Bulls picked him, he would average close to 20 ppg and about 8 rebounds. However, the Bulls would have an even worse record than they do now.
Rodney Stuckey - They gave him the keys to the car too early. Sure he had some nice games this season, but his handle is too shakey to be elite, and he needs to work on his J.Comment

Thaddeus i dont agree with you on though.
Hespretty much doing what he does and i wouldnt call him overrated potential at all...In fact i tihnk hes showing that hes gotten quite better since his rookie year.#SimnationComment

Re: Which Players Have the Most Overrated POTENTIAL In The NBA???
I knew there had to be a reason, since contributing to the thread clearly wasn't in your goals.
Speaking of contributing...
I still think Williams was a great choice, GSW. The AI comparison doesn't look like it'll pan out, even in the most remote fashion. Williams is fast and has a handle, but the comparisons can really end there. He fits in that dime a dozen category with Jerryd Bayless and those guys. Until they become efficient scorers, they can't start on a winning team. They have to mature into a Mo Williams, or Jason Terry, and in Louis's case, I dunno at this piont.
Also, Luol Deng.
1. For airing you out for the smart behind liar that you are.
2. Bringing up the Louis Williams issue and talking about Thad Young.
I contributed fine. Hey everybody, Borninmecca is going to grade out all of our posts in here!!!
I think Rondo's potential is overrated now. I remember someone on here, granted...a Boston fan...said Rondo is a top 3 point in the league. That's when I knew something was up.Comment

Re: Which Players Have the Most Overrated POTENTIAL In The NBA???
Wow there's no way Rondo is top 3, but to me he's as "good" as Jameer and Mo. If I had to pick one out RR, Jameer or Mo, I'm taking Rondo closely followed by Mo.Comment

Re: Which Players Have the Most Overrated POTENTIAL In The NBA???
I looked it up for the hell of it because I was bored. Here's the first reference to Iverson made by a Sixers fan when talking about Louis Williams:
Originally posted by P2KLouis Williams may be that gem the Sixers were looking for. This dude looks like AI Lite, except he can shoot and play in a set offense.
He killed in the summer league and so far in two preseason games:
vs. Knicks
23 minutes
4-10 shooting
16 points
3 rebounds
2 assists
1 steal
0 turnovers
vs. Nets
40 minutes
12-18 shooting
33 points
5 rebounds
5 assists
3 steals
2 turnovers
Seriously, this dude came on really late last season when he got time in the last handful of games. And he seemed to have come off that with some major confidence. He is proving he can score in this league. Once Miller is traded (at least he should be) this season, it will be a treat to watch LW do his thing.
Edit: Another reference to Iverson, though that's really all it is:
Originally posted by P2K<!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> Damn! Now we know why LW went into AI mode late in that game! They made him mad!
As many times as they showed that clip, I never noticed the Bowen Special Move until now.
Edit2: Another reference:
Originally posted by SkerikSo we'll move Miller to Cleveland for someone like Sideshow Bob, we'll draft another clown project next season, Iguodala will leave during the offseason, we'll try and fail to sign a big name FA because, as David Aldridge noted the other day, nobody wants to be the first person to invest in a blighted neighborhood, and we'll go into next season with a ton of cap room that we can't spend and a bunch of bad (but young) players, and Louis Williams will take 40 shots a night and become another Iverson that everyone can hate because all he does is play hard and try to win despite all the crap surrounding him year after year.
Yay. This team might be terrible for another 10 seasons. At least.
Take from that what you will.
I spent way too much time on that.Last edited by Brandon13; 02-25-2009, 04:52 AM.Comment

Re: Which Players Have the Most Overrated POTENTIAL In The NBA???
Great post, Brandon13. Lookie lookie who found the cookie. So busy attacking me and GSW that he forgot his own posts about "AI Lite" who "can shoot" and "went into AI mode". Overrated.
Brandon, I really appreciate it. I didn't do this myself because I try not to spend time proving things that I know are true. If someone wants to stubbornly ignore the truth, then that's up to them If the truth hurts, and they want to call me a liar to avoid it, that's up to them too.
Glad you found all this stuff though, man. Funny that all that scratching and clawing came from one of the people who made the comparisons. That's why I don't take these rants and attacks seriously. It hurts to be wrong.
Back to the topic...I don't think Rondo's potential is overrated, I just think people are going overboard about his good qualities. The scouting report is accurate, but the media is slapping a "wow" onto it that makes it sound like they are overrating him. If the straight up comparison to a Chris Paul came up, I think they'd backpedal on all of the oohing and ah-ing, but the meat of the scouting report is still the same: long arms, real quick, great hands, great rebounder for a pg, decent distributor, awful jumpshot, plenty of time and talent to develop.Comment

Re: Which Players Have the Most Overrated POTENTIAL In The NBA???
First, this whole back and forth has just been hilarious.
Thanks goes to Brandon13 for doing the forensics on P2Ks closet fetish for comparing Sweet Louis Williams to AI. We got your DNA P2K, there's no arguing...guilty as charged.
Oh...& I Like how you put me out there as being Mr. Homer-rific, when its you and skerik dropping the AI to Louis comparisons.
All you gotta do is light the brush on fire to get the snakes to come out.
Not overrated, drafed outta HS and between late last season and now is actually getting real burn.
Now...for the record, that's not me comparing him to AI. I'm just saying he hasn't had a chance to fullfill his potential.
He was a 2nd rd pick, 45 overall. I know Monta came from the same draft, same rd, 5 picks ahead, but in Louis defense he spent most of his first two seasons on the IR.
Monta started 50 some games his 2nd yr.
Really... Speak for yourself.
Do you suffer from multiple personalities or did you just forget the -at least- two comparisons you made between AI and Louis.
Thanks BTW...
That's you. But if you're going to throw stuff out there, you may want to back it up when called upon it. You may be able to get away with that in the OS NBA forum because...well...it's the OS NBA forum. And I've been posting on here since '02 and no Sixers fans were on here touting Lou Williams as the next AI. He couldn't even get on the bench his rookie year.
You only say that you won't dig for threads and prove it because you can't prove anything.
But I should let it go.
Good job big man, exerting your OS clout status w/ your post count and join date.
I'm P2K hear me roar......I'm a big man on the interent!
P2K FTL/FTF (For the Fail).

Now you just look _______ .

He posts some of the most cohesive stuff in this forum.
Oh but wait that's right he hasn't been doing it since '02.
