Limit the number of timeouts after 2 minutes. The never ending foul-free throws-timeout-commercial-foul-timeout-commercial-free throws-timeout-commercial routine is unbearable.

add a 4th official that can override bad calls, the 4th official stays in a video booth the entire game.

Re: What Are Some Things YOU Would Change In The NBA?

        1) Bring back the best of 5 first round series. Greater upset potential, and it really puts the higher seed underthe gun to take care of business.

        2) Bring back the old illegal defense rule.

--you cannot be wandering below the free throw line, not guarding anyone. All this does is create roamers.

Lebron does this. He plays off who he is guarding, and darts in and out of the lane, trying to shoot passing lanes for steals, or to anticipate a weakside shot block attempt.

Joachim Noah is a major culprit also. He doesnt want to get caught one on one in a post up situation, because he knows he isnt strong enough to handle it, so he darts, in and out of the paint, like he is having a seizure. It's pretty commical to watch, actually.

If you cant guard someone, get the hell off of the court.

I think this will result in better overall players being on the court , nore often, because coaches will know that they cant hide someone defensively as easily.

        3) Copy the NFL: You are not eligible for the draft until 3 years after your highschool graduation date.
--this will require the owners locking out the players, and nuking the league for a season, but I believe this needs to be done.

Too many kids do not know how to play. They all think they will be next "one", but best case scenario, the majority will be lucky to be Al Harrington, and the vast majority of them will become Gerald Green, and Demarr Johnson.

The current system is a fraud. Kids end up going to college for a year they dont really want to spend..they dont hone their skills, and care only about biding their time until June.

Coaches dont give a damn about developing the kids, they just want to land one of them and hope he can ride him to a final four.

The draft comes around, and you have a draft board filled with a bunch of "maybes", and fans have no idea who any of these kids are. They then watch this kid either sit on the bench for 2 years, and wonder what the heck he is doing there.

College can help develop these guys, build them up into household names, and when draft day roles around, a team and fans can actually feel excited because they've seen a guy develop and has some idea what skills he brings to the table.

        4) Get rid of the guaranteed contract, and institute a hard salary cap.

--it has killed the league. Too many players have absurd contracts that are poison pills to their franchises.

Players like Zach Randolph just loaf through their careers, knowing he has about 40 million guaranteed to him over the next 2 yrs, regardless of whether or not he averages 26 points per or 6.

A player is free to maximize his dollars, and a club should have the ability to get out of a deal that player is not living up to.

        5) Flopping should be a technical foul. Similar to soccer. They can card you for diving in soccer, and you can get tossed out of the game for doing it.

          I like the contract idea.

However can you explain how it would work in more detail?

I'm sick of players getting "content" after signing big contracts and it makes for a ****ty product on the floor.

I love this idea. Isn't there a backup official that just watches the whole game from the sideline anyways, waiting for a ref to get injured? Use them in the booth. No need to stop games for foot-on-the-line three pointers and no more Mo Williams getting away with throwing the ball at Dwight Howard. The booth ref simply buzzes the other officials when he sees something wrong, or just manually fixes it. It would save time and increase accuracy.

Wouldn't work because then people would complain about that Official as well. Just get rid of Refs altogether that way all the conspiracy/Official talk will die.

All players wear those black one piece suits with all the white electronic balls on them that they use when they do animations for video games and we can get a computer to call all of the fouls when contact happens.

F that age limit rule. The best players in the league never touched a college court and many of them only went for one yr. If you're good enough to compete with grown men at 17/18 then you should be allowed tin the league.

sportyguyfl31; great post. I just say follow the NFL period. I know it is a broad answer but they have the perfect model to follow

Re: What Are Some Things YOU Would Change In The NBA?

                      Fold some of these franchises:
Clippers - A franchise that's just taking up space. Probably, the only team that's been around for more than 20 years that has never attempted to build a championship contending team. HELL, even the Sacramento Kings had a championship level team at one point!

Grizzlies - So Canada didn't want you now their looking to get out of Memphis. Let's just fold up the tent and call it a day.

Timberwolves - I got a feeling that if they're still around for the next 90 years, they'll be the Cubs of basketball.

Wizards - It's a shame a franchise with solid tradition has laid itself to the wayside the last 20 years. And changing their names from Bullets to Wizards didn't help much.

Raptors - You don't necessarily have to fold them, just move them over to FIBA since they like international players so much.

Warriors - Another franchise with lots of tradition. BUT if they refuse to play a lick of defense then they should hit the road.
I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm X

Damn great points. I'd fold those teams except the Wizards. They will return this season, guaranSheed.

I'd also think about folding the Kings or moving them at least to Vegas.

The league doesn't need all these teams in CA. It's just stupid. Max a state should have is 2.

Guarantee a % of the player's contract...say, for the 1st 3 years of a 5 year contract, the first 3 are guaranteed, or a % of the overall value is guaranteed.

After that, you are strictly, on a year to year contract.

Time to fold up 3/4ths of the league then.

I agree, the league is too big, but you can say that about all sports.

The NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB, all have players who wouldnt be in the league if floundering franchises were allowed to go under.

No way there should be a max of 2. What about Texas? 3 teams that compete year in, year out. If your state can support 5 teams, then so be it.

How can you copy the NFL when you can't replicate the product on the field, the corporate sponsorships, or pretty much anything else about the NFL. The only thing the NBA has over the NFL is star power yet people complain when they see commercials like Kobe & the Lakers.
