Kidd to NY a done deal?

My good friend works at the Mandarin Oriental hotel which is a VERY upscale hotel in nyc. Apparently the Knicks Asst GM was there tonight and he told my friend Kidd is a done deal. If it turns out to be true what do my fellow Knick fans think? Depending on the length of the contract I like the move (along with some other possible moves that I have heard about) because it will make us a bit more competitive and more importantly, it shows we're trying to move in the right direction. Thoughts?

The Knicks can only sign him for the MLE right? Still don't see why Kidd would want to come to NY. I would think he would try and sign with a contender to get a shot at a ring.

I know he loves New York, but I dont see why Kidd would sign with the Knicks for less money and to win fewer games

There's reports around today that he did meet a team rep in an upmarket NY hotel............

But the team rep = Mark Cuban.

For one year, which is all I heard the Knicks wanted to offer I'd be happy. But I don't know why Kidd would want to come here for one year, I'm sure he could get a better deal in a better situation somewhere else.

Everyone wants to play in New York.

            Just ask Knicks fans.

Team owner Mark Cuban announced via his Twitter feed Tuesday afternoon that he was "getting ready to fly up to NYC for [a] Free Agent meeting at 12:01 [a.m.]." Sources with knowledge of Cuban's plans confirmed to ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the meeting is scheduled with Kidd at the first allowable minute of 2009 NBA free agency.

This signing would make no sense on either side.

I'm thinkin your friend jumped the gun.

I had read this morning that Kidd was meeting with Walsh.. my initial reaction was that Kidd was posturing to make sure he gets as much $ from Cuban as possible.

I could maybe see why NY would want him, but for Kidd it makes zero sense. Either Kidd wants $ or a ring. NY has 0/2 on that checklist.

For now IMO not thread worthy

^^ I dunno it's not like he really has a chance to win a ring in Dallas either. Obviously a helluva lot better chance than NY (where it's zero) but his odds aren't that much higher staying in Dallas.

Do not want him on my books for 2010. Even a 1 year deal doesn't make much sense as we don't have a young pg for him to mentor. (I'm assuming Toney Douglas isn't really a pg.) If he would sign a 1 year deal I guess he would help us win a few games and then maybe after we hopefully sign some big names in 2010 he could stick around too.
