Re: What scorer gives D\'s the biggest headaches?

Shaq poses the most problems offensively as there's nobody that can really gaurd him. The old "Hack a Shaq" technique isn't as strong of an attack as it used to be since Shaq has gotten somewhat better at the charity stripe.

I will say however that Shaq is very easy to manipulate defensively as you saw in the last game of the Spurs series. Shaq looked slow and was often out of position while the Spurs were moving the ball around and then attacking the lane.

I wouldn't say Dirk is ungaurdable. I would say Peja has done a more than adequate job against him. The guy is going to get his points, but he didn't really blow up until game 7 of that series, plus there are times that the guy will all but disappear.

I also think Rasheed doesn't get nearly enough credit. That guy can flat out play. Duncan is the only PF in the league that is better than that guy, period.

<font color="red"> I’m not saying he depends on Nash or Finley. I’m saying without there presents he is not as effective. Finley can go off at any moment, as well as Nash, and people have to respect that. Nowitski is good, don’t get me wrong, but he’s not as effective without one or the other or both not being there. And by the way, KG would shut Nowitski down.

BTW how can you discredit AI, championship run??? If Nowitski was put on that same Sixers team they would have been in the Lottery, because, Nowitski doesn’t play D, and he would be a one man team, something, like Kobe, isn’t use to doing.

this is one of the most ridiculous posts that i have ever seen

first, Nowitzki has killed garnett the past two years when they have played. Nowitzki swepted garnett in the playoffs last year, and got the better of him in the regular season this year (look at the stats for the past two years)

second, anyone who says that Dirk cant play D doesnt watch him play. He has averaged something like 12 defensive rebounds a game in the postseason and he has a had a few 20 rebound and 18, 19 defensive rebound games. He ALWAYS outscores the player he is guarding. Nellie can match him up with anyone on the opposing team except the point guard. Nowitzki is a good defensive player, although he is getting better and soon he will be a great defensive player. Nellie does not have to account for Dirk on the defensive end. Behind Finley, Dirk is the Mavs best defensive starter.

third, Nowitzki makes the mavs offense go. Nash and Finley are excellent as well but Nowitzki is the only player on the Mavs that draws consistent double teams.

You really need to watch some maverick games . Dirk is a complete player and for you to say he "can't" play defense is very wrong indeed. if you knew anything about basketball, and watch Dirk play for any length of time, then you would not say that he "can't" play D. Did you see the last play in game one against the spurs? Dirk shut down Duncan on that play and forced an airball to win the game. That is clutch defense. Dirk did not guard Duncan for the most part the entire game, but in crunch time Nellie put him on Duncan.

Not to mention that AI doesn't play a lick of D himself.

Dirk outplays Garnett consistently. That was a poor point there, too.

But not to much to complain about solid in all aspects on offense, I just don't think he has "IT". I don't see where he makes his team better, I mean teams know that K.G. can't beat you by himself, just my opinion though.

KG plays alot like McHale. not only that, but did you see how he locked Kobe up in game 2 and 3? execellent ball controll! i believe he had 5 turnovers the entire series!! the Heart and Soul of the NBA runs through KG. Dirk couldn't do sh!t against KG this year. i watch 3 of their games of NBAtv, 2 in Dallas, and Dirk said after the game that KG was a totally different player than he was last year!
