its a good rule but if you're a good player before the age of 20 why wait and possibly risk an injury

imagine that rule this year; majority of the better collegiate players were under the age of 20

i don't think it's a good rule cause look what LeBron will do for the nba he will reguvenate the cavs and if he went to a few years of uni then there wouldn't be that much hype

Last night while Mike Tirico was interviewing David Stern the topic of a 20 yr old age limit came up. It's an idea that the NBA is seriously thinking about and i'm wondering what you all think of it.

Personally I think it's a good thing as it'll allow the game to get better with older players coming into the league who have gotten more basketball and life experience. It'll also end the whole spectre of 17-18 yr olds getting HUGE shoe contracts etc etc.

Sure ..... but before we do that, let's force baseball players to go to college rather than the minor leagues, then lets force woman's tennis stars to wait til after they've played college ball before going pro, then let's tell kid actors that they can only do amateur plays until after they graduate then they can do movies and tv shows. Since we're dictating that college sports must be improved regardless of if a kid wants to go, why stop at entertainment and sports? Lets keep business majors from being allowed to be entrepeneurs, just think how good the computer science program would have been at MIT if Bill Gates was told he could not drop out and go into the private sector. While were trampling rights due to our selfishness, colleges will still dangle scholarships over kids heads each year, coaches will still leave after promising lil Timmy's mom and dad that they would be there for their child, and jerseys with kids names and numbers on them will still sell. Sheesh, the hyppocrasy of those who went to division one colleges.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that even with an age limit for the NBA draft it can still hurt the NCAA in that players can still leave early but go to the NBDL. Unless there's a proviso that states that college players under 20 can't go to the NBDL then the talent drain currently being seen in the NCAA will continue.

I think it will provide NCAA hoops fans once again, after a decade or more of players using the college game just to make the pro's (and high school kids poo-poo'ing on the idea of an education), the opportunity to watch their favorite players become college b-ball stars. Many would-be players will be afforded the opportunity to earn a college degree and either find something more rewarding to do in life than putting a ball in a basketball, or least come to the NBA game with some degree of mental maturity.

Not for it. College isn't for everyone. I rather spend two years on the bench of an NBA team learning the NBA game than going to college for two years when you don't really want to be there. I believe if you are good enough to play pro ball, then play it. (well you gotta be legal atleast.)

Its not like the high school players are polluting the league. If anything a lot of them have become leaders of their team. I mean if they aren't good enough to help a team, why are they drafted?

If the phenomenon is anything similar to Lebron the NBA will make an exception. Just look at Darko and the 18+ rule of the NBA. In order to be drafted the player has to be at least 18 and Darko is 17 entering the draft. Personally I think this is good. Get at least one year of NCAA experience before you enter the bigs.

Actually this isnt anything being discussed by the NCAA, this is strickly the NBA. Just like the NFL has the same policy. NFL and NBA are privately owned leagues which means they can pretty much set their own rules. In the long term it will make their overall product better. Also these guys arent being forced to go to college, they can go overseas to play ball, then come back here for the draft if they really dont want to go to college.
