Re: Durant as good--or better?!?!--than...
Lebron needs a post up game, but not necessarily a "back down" game. If he can get his turnaround to be reliable from about 12-16 feet, that is perfect. From that distance he can turn and face up, see the double teams coming, pass to cutters, swing the ball around the perimeter for the other post or take the shot. The bonus is that is too far out to deny him position. It also neutralizes smaller opponents who may fare better against his penetration. This element in his game is what is truly necessary to making him unstoppable within a 5 man concept.
Right now, there will be rough pages in the playoffs for him to generate a 5 man offense from an effective dribble/drive position. Sometimes it will be there, but other times it won't. From the post position, other people can initiate plays while remains a threat. His jumpshot, on the other hand, is not as necessary from his growth, because in an ideal offense, your 6'8" forward isn't taking the bulk of the 3 pointers and 18 footers, but rather making those shots easier for smaller players.
His jumper however is vital because it forces players to push up on him. You put a smaller player on him and he can shoot over him and still overpower him on the way to the rim, not to mention the calls he gets (justly & unjustly).
He does need people to initiate the offense to take that focus off him every play.Comment

He's cant master a 12-16 turnaround if he can't consistently hit a 18ft face up jumper. The only good thing about Bron posting up is like you said, you can't play key on him, aka play the 1-2-2 zone that Detroit made famous.

Can he keep focus on his balance for an entire season and get it to the point of muscle memory? Can he slow himself down and work on the footwork it takes to maintain good balance on the J? He finally stuck with one FT routine and stroke over a full season and it paid off. Hopefully for Cavs fans, he'll do the same with his 18-footer.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Was posed to see Durant play at Da Farms yesterday and today but the rain f'd those plans all up this weekend.
He and Gil are posed to go at it before the end of the season.#RespectTheCultureComment

Carmelo is better right now because of his rebounding and strength, but this could easily change this season. I wouldn't be shocked if Durant was a hands down better player by this year's All Star game.Comment

Re: Durant as good--or better?!?!--than...
Durant is an offensive savant who can fill up the bucket from almost anywhere on the court. Problem is he can't do much of anything else. He is too frail to rebound in traffic or play adequate perimeter defense and his court vision hasn't fully developed yet. Scoring 30 points isn't as useful as you might think if you are giving up 25.Comment

Pound for pound, pun intended, he's a top 24 player.Comment

Re: Durant as good--or better?!?!--than...
I'm with Ex and the answer in an emphatic NO. Could he possibly become a better scorer?? Sure he could. But as far as being a better player it's just not happening. People want to be quick to bring up and keep throwing out the fact that Durant is only 20 years but let's not forget what LeBron was doing at 20 and in his third year in the league. We are talking about 31 points,7 boards, and 7 assists. Those are legendary number for anybody at any age. There have only been like 2 people EVER to do that at anytime.
The difference between the two is passing/vision, leadership, defense, and rebounding. In all of those except for rebounding the gap is pretty huge. LeBron came into the league with out of this world passing ability and court vision. He was the unquestioned leader of that team from day one and has improved his teams wins total by leaps and bounds. Durant doesn't have that and hasn't impacted the win column like LeBron did or has. He could possibly get up there with the W's but I don't ever see him getting to LeBron's level with the passing and court vision. He also doesn't have the overall impact on the game like LeBron does or did at the same time. We all know LeBron can win you a game or get you there without scoring. If Durant isn't scoring honestly what else can he do to get his team to the W right now??
I'm a huge fan of Durant and he could easily become the best scorer in the game but his all around game won't get to LeBron's level. Durant could become the league's number two man behind LeBron and there is nothing wrong with that.Comment
