Kidd is the best point guard in the NBA now, sure. But in the last 3 seasons, since 2000, ppl was saying he was better than GP, and that was not true. Till last season, u couldnt say to me who was the best, cause Kidd was (is) in his prime but Payton still was (and to me he'll always be) a best offensive player than Kidd. Payton had/has a lot more options , he can hit 3s, he is a great low post player, he got more offensive skills, while Kidd is absolutely a better passer. NOw Kidd is as good as GP as a defensive player, but just cause Payton got older....u could not compare them defensively when GP was at his best, sorry...The point is that lot of ppl used to say Kidd was the best when he still wasnt ( i mean while he played in Phoenix)

You know, I know you're a Payton fan. A huge one in fact. But there was no point bringing him. Absolutely none at all.

Re: Jason Kidd is overrated

To the author of this thread.

Kidd is not overrated. He just have a bonehead coach who doesn't know how to win a championship series.
He has Martin who thinks he can withstand Duncan better than anyone else. (It is true that he is a good PF in the EAST, but in the West he is just a baby little Duncan).
He has other teamates who was shut down because they never thought that SA is as dominant as LA.
Caught with there pants down, NJ coach did not prepare his players for the WESTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPION. The worst thing is, he has little time to prepare them this time. Sweeping the EAST is already expected from NJ after being prepared by LA in the previous season.
Bonehead Scott brought DEKE to solidify the low post only to bench him. And then blaming that he is not on the top of his shape. Grow up Headbone, what do you expect to a player who was daydreaming all playoffs long because you allowed him too.
In other words Kidd is now in the right place but in the wrong coach. If I am Kidd I'd get out of there and come back to MAVS for a minimum. Of course that will make NASH SAD. But it's alright I've heard Nick is willing to sacrifice his position for Nash. And Dirk is willing to run 20 miles per day so he and Kidd can work on that faastbreak thing.
And Nelson would welcome Kidd with WIDE open arms and smile. And all they need is trade Raef, Bardley and 1st round to bring back Jamal Mashburn. Call Jim Jackson and a new CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM IS BORN. Of course I got carried away.

I can dream right?

Re: Jason Kidd is overrated

i think people are stuck on some "if he doesn't put up alot of points, he's not the best point guard" mentality. i always thought point guards were guys who first and foremost positions his teammates on the floor, distributes the ball and is the floor general. all of a sudden, people think they need to put up 20 points and what not. John Stockton in his prime wasn't the biggest scorer and he was the best point guard.

Yeah but when your team isn’t putting up points, you need someone to step up, and since your point is most time, the leader on the floor sometimes you need him to be able to score.

ZigZag, I agree, the Nets would have had a tough time with the Sixers. Probably would have beat them in six. DC does not own KMart. Game 1 Sixers vs Nets..Martin 24, 16 boards, DC 10. Game 2 Martin played 12 minutes due to an injury scored 4 points, DC 5. Game 3 Martin scores 17, DC 15. Game 4 Martin 21, DC 12. So against the Sixers, other than the game he was hurt in, Martin played to his averages or even better. Snow does guard Kidd well, but Martin would have totally dominated the series because the Sixers would have no answer to him. DC is way too slow to guard Martin and Van Horn is way too soft. Maybe Kenny Thomas could slow him down a little, but Martin would have killed them.

Kidd did improve his scoring ouput this year to 20 ppg but most of that came in the open floor. When the game is down to the final minutes thats when J-kidd struggles a bit cause he doesnt have a good jumper and defenses can focus on that. I know he hit that clutch j against the pistons but hes also missed a lot like game 2 against the bucks in the first round.
