Re: Is Rondo a top 5 PG?
I don't know why Danny Ainge is hating on this guy so much. More than half of the teams in the league would take this guy as their point but for some reason he isn't good enough for him, I guess.
Rondo definitely is a Top 5 PG if you exclude the older guys like Nash, Billups and Kidd. Off the top of my head it would be him, Rose, CP3, Deron and Devin. I'm probably missing someone but yeah, he's up there and deserves that 55 mil deal he wants.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. Re: Is Rondo a top 5 PG?
The biggest reason Rondo is important and is certifiably a Top 5 PG in the league is his defense and athleticism. The new NBA is all predicated on the PG driving and kicking (or finishing at the rim himself in the case of guys like Parker and Harris)... having a top-tier defensive player as your PG frustrates the vast majority of offenses and turns them into jumpshooting, perimeter passing type of affairs.
The PG is the first line of defense to prevent penetration and Rondo is probably the best in the league at actually playing defense (CP3 gets the steal numbers and is probably the better defender overall because of those TOs created). Along with his athleticism, decent size, and the intangibles, he's proto-Kidd with greater potential... yeah you can't stick him in there and build a franchise around him like you probably can with CP3 (I actually think it's arguable whether or not you can build around CP3 or PGs in general), but he would change the makeup of nearly any team in a positive way simply because of his defense as well as his scoring efficiency.
Think about any time you really see Deron or Parker shredding an offense... it's normally against a PG who can't play defense and it creates a terrible ripple effect throughout the rest of the defense because help defenders have to pay attention to the PG driving unabated as well as their man, open shooters, etc. Just creates total havoc... Rondo is one of the few guys who has the chance to stop guys like that and that's immensely valuable.Last edited by Stumbleweed; 10-27-2009, 02:12 PM.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Is Rondo a top 5 PG?
Well Ainge has the advantage. Rondo is going to be a restricted free agent. All Rondo can do is find the best offer and the Celtics have 10 days to match it it. Ainge is going to match the offer. All Ainge is betting is that Rondo wont get a max deal.I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....Comment

Re: Is Rondo a top 5 PG?
I agree 100%, plus if you're gonna suck in 2-3 years after the Big 3 is gone is there really any point in having a $60m PG if he has no weapons around him? I think Ainge is making a really smart move."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

I wouldn't put him above Devin, but that's the homer in me talking.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Is Rondo a top 5 PG?
In our system, probably not. I think he did have like 2 TDs last year though. I could be wrong...Could you honestly see Devin averaging a triple-double in the playoffs, let alone ten assists?#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Is Rondo a top 5 PG?
Any guy who can put up the numbers Rondo did last year in the playoffs is up there. I don't know about Top 5 yet, but top 8 sure.Comment

Re: Is Rondo a top 5 PG?
Heck no. Though people point out his performance during the playoff, you have to realize that he was playing with two killers. They were focused on Pierce and Allen which took pressure off of Rondo. Call me crazy and out of touch but I can't puthim up there. He would be top five when he can lead a mediocre team to the promise land. Never the physical attributes but the punctuality of how they are used.Comment
